Stop sniggering at the back!

Trying to make a list to amuse myself this autumn/winter. Aside from the usual cinema/art gallery/museum.

So far I have:

Ice-skating
10 pin bowling
indoor climbing/bouldering/trampolining

Tried an escape room but didn't like it.

What else? I'm in Edinburgh btw.

Thanks

Drink and smoke and screw cause there’s nothing else to do!

Study sculpture at St. Martin's College

Take one of the local Alpacas for a walk.
Play musical instruments, preferably with other people.
Paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing.
Community litter pick or gutter clearing, preferably with cake.
Visit a new city.
Climb a mountain or two.
Visit a posh garden.
Craft stuff.
Listen to children read at the local school.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/09/2022 08:57

Cinema, art and photographic galleries, eating out, working out (at home), walking, singing, reading. I don't have time for much, as I'm working with a long commute.

youlightupmyday · 06/09/2022 08:58

We are doing a Spanish GCSE!

dotdotdotdash · 06/09/2022 09:06

Help out your elderly neighbours
Make a playlist and some snacks and throw a party
Customise some clothing
Start or join a book club
Play netball
Train for a running race
Trawl some vintage shops
Go to gigs - small cheap pub ones are often the most fun
Learn screenprinting or another creative art

There's thing we do every Autumn/Winter that won't get cut from the budget.

Lectures re. hobby.
Panto with the kids.
Talk on history/subject of interest - off to see Lucy Worsley in a few weeks.
MR James Ghost story performed by one man band, Nunkie theatre.
We usually go either October or December.

The rest of the time is taken up with free stuff and ferrying kids around.

FourChimneys · 06/09/2022 11:20

saynotothefishtank I love taking my book for a walk too 🙂

Worldgonecrazy · 06/09/2022 11:24

One thing I love about Mr Crazy is he reminded me that adults can play too ( not the x rated type of play!)

Why don’t we go on the swings or play hide and seek, or go crabbing, or any of the fun stuff we did as kids? What stops us except social expectations?

life is too short to care about disapproving frowns

PetalParty · 06/09/2022 11:34

Farmer’s markets
Going to the seaside
City break
Electric scooter
Trying a different international cuisine
Making new friends and inviting them out
Home decorating
Gardening
Pair of latest cool trainers

RagingWoke · 06/09/2022 11:35

My list of autumn/winter activities for this year is:

Axe throwing
Excerice classes (because I got lazy over the summer!)
Crazy golf followed by cocktails/bottomless brunch
Local ladies craft group- similar to WI and it's a fab evening out once a month!
Theatre

Other than those I'll be staying at home, warm and avoiding social contact with reading, crocheting and mastering the pasta maker I bought on a whim and for the life of me can't get the pasta right!

rickandmorts · 06/09/2022 11:38

Bingo is a fun night out, cheap and there's a chance to win money. Haven't been in years but must organise a trip soon!

FirstStarToTheRight · 06/09/2022 11:40

For some people I’ve known, they really found it genuine good fun to:

Snoop - Read other people’s letters, phone, go through their pockets and drawers
Gossip
Antagonise
Set lovers and friends against one another
Pilfer petty things
Copy outfits, personality - everything

BigFatLiar · 06/09/2022 11:47

Golf (Edinburgh has some nice municipal golf courses)
The museum often has evening lectures on various subjects.

joongkivincenzo · 06/09/2022 12:05

Saw this on fb, it's kind of more of a group activity and probably a one off but looks fun and they do it in Edinburgh silentadventures.co.uk/

Sparklingbrook · 06/09/2022 12:20

What didn't you like about the Escape Room @DoAllMyOwnStunts ? I love them, they are really fun IMO.

MintJulia · 06/09/2022 12:38

I run, shoot clay pigeons, cycle with my ds, go to MeetUps, have nationality evenings with friends when we cook a specific cuisine.
I garden and make clothes,, read novels in front of the fire.
I love this time of year. I've spent all summer out and about, now for a little home time and quiet reflection. 😊

most of this is 24/25th Sept weekend www.doorsopendays.org.uk/
Historic Scotland usually do free entry to their properties on the weekend cloest to St Andrew's weekend but you have to book early for the popular places like Edinburgh castle.

OoglyMoogly · 06/09/2022 13:13

We go to ten pin bowling, Jive classes and quiz nights.

emmathedilemma · 06/09/2022 13:18

LizzieSiddal · 05/09/2022 22:18

Is anyone going to have any spare money to do these things?

Even more important to socialise and have some fun when you're feeling skint and crap.
Lots of free and very cheap things to do.
My friend lives in the US and it's very common to have a Pot Luck Party ie bring a dish. I wonder if they'll become more popular here?

GingerPigz · 06/09/2022 13:45

I’m saving this thread as I have been on a mission to live life outside of work home errands etc.

one of the biggest points I’ve added, is to not only HAVE fun, but to BE fun! So surrounding myself with likeminded people who say yes to life. And just looking for opportunities to be silly, playful, spontaneous ,adventurous etc.

I went for a walk with a friend in the woods and we decided to follow her dog , in brambles, under logs, through streams etc etc! Ir was such a laugh and we giggled the whole way through it.

Tigresswoods · 06/09/2022 13:51

Golf?
