What do adults do for fun?

Stop sniggering at the back!

Trying to make a list to amuse myself this autumn/winter. Aside from the usual cinema/art gallery/museum.

So far I have:

Ice-skating
10 pin bowling
indoor climbing/bouldering/trampolining

Tried an escape room but didn't like it.

What else? I'm in Edinburgh btw.

Thanks

Is anyone going to have any spare money to do these things?

Well presumably the OP has some spare money for activities - otherwise she wouldn't have asked .

DoAllMyOwnStunts · 05/09/2022 22:22

Thanks so much for typing out all these ideas!

I'm looking at EventBrite and MeetUp for more ideas. I like book launches and that sort of thing.

@goldfinchonthelawn tell me more about "immersive experiences" - is that like floatation tanks?! Remember when they were fashionable?!

Some of these ideas don't cost anything!

I was just thinking of the energy bills tripling. My Company depends on people having spare money so I’m pleased if people do have it!

People who have money will continue to have money. If you provide luxury good or services, fear not.

Ride my horse
Go to horse shows and related events (Burghley/Badminton etc in summer, Olympia, Horse of the Year show etc winter) and smaller local events that I ride at or watch friends at
Hunt events - niche but hunt balls are amazing to get shit faced at
County shows - but that’s Summer.
Watch ballet (I bloody love the ballet)
Theatre, I like plays but not musicals.
Eating at fancy places. Although I don’t these days as have a toddler. But pre-child I loved an overpriced meal to dress up for.
Walking - I live somewhere really nice so just like to be in it
Make cider, flavoured gin and jam. I’m fairly shit at it but it passes the time (and uses the ridiculous amount of fruit that grows in our garden).
Pilates-I go with friends and we eat cake afterwards . The cake is the best bit to be fair. You could skip Pilates.

“I’m saying nothing.” 🫤😂😂

Bebobarn · 05/09/2022 22:49

Don't know how this is post going to come across but....I love litter-picking! I can feel the dopamine flowing when I fill up the bag with all sorts of weird bits and pieces, I get a sense of achievement that I've cleared an area, done something for my community and the world in general, boo to micro plastics! So many levels of fun.

Also volunteering - meet people, experience new things, feel good. Altruism in general is fun!

DoAllMyOwnStunts · 05/09/2022 22:53

@Bebobarn i think you and I may have been separated at birth! I have a litterpicker implement and I like to give blood.

OP posts:
Bebobarn · 05/09/2022 23:00

@DoAllMyOwnStunts Haha yeah! The implements are fun in their own right!

OP - also Autumn/winter is the best time to get the crap that's stuck under all the vegetation before it grows back in the Spring.

Bingo

brianixon · 05/09/2022 23:51

I get the most fun from doing something rather than watching.
Sailing was my favourite.
Recently volunteered at a Heritage Railway. A bit limited these days could only meet and greet. Years ago I helped restore a carriage. Learned woodwork from other blokes.
With both those I met new people who also 'do' rather than watch.

Whereabouts are you?

Rutland, in a small village that tourists like to
visit. Not far from Burghley conveniently.
