Bath tub only the shower part

OP posts:
WavePlant · 05/09/2022 10:19

The bath, would replace it with a walk in shower. Always see people here say keep it to sell, but even if that’s in a few years have the place you want and new people can put a bath back in if they want.

garlictwist · 05/09/2022 10:20

I'd say we use most of our house but very rarely the very nice and big back garden. We didn't really want a garden when we were looking for a house and I always just sit on the front step because it gets more sun.

I feel very stressed out having this overgrown lawn in the back and not knowing what to do with it. I am very ungrateful I know.

Walkingthedog46 · 05/09/2022 10:22

My driveway leading to the garage. It is very narrow, with a wall on either side. Too narrow to get a modern car down.

PolkaDotShoes · 05/09/2022 10:23

Not one thing there. With 4 adult sized people crammed into a smallish terrace we use every corner, all the time.
When DC1 is away at Uni, their bedroom is the only spare space and it's a real luxury to have somewhere to leave ironing / host a guest / have a spare bed if someone is poorly.

PussGirl · 05/09/2022 10:26

Front porch - very shallow so door has to open outwards & very wide so just collects dust / creatures - not really much use although it does keep heat in the house I suppose.

Living flame gas fire in sitting room - no longer used due to pets.

En suite - only ever used for its intended purpose when main bathroom renovated. Very useful storage space tho 👌

Cats adore a living flame gas fire - you should put it on just for them!

antelopevalley · 05/09/2022 10:27

Front porches are brilliant to save energy.

Lounge. It’s freezing and not a comfortable place to chill out.

Sounds like 'chilling out' is exactly what you'd be doing 😆

Burglar alarm. It's a rental. I don't know the code.

You need to ask them for the code, or you'll be like me when there's a power cut and all the alarms go off and you have no idea how to turn it off .... very awkward at 3am when yours is the only one in the street still going off and you just know the neighbours are planning your death..

georgarina · 05/09/2022 10:31

Big living room. What I could actually use is another bedroom...

SilverGlassHare · 05/09/2022 10:36

Playroom. DC just bring toys into the sitting room and leave them all over the floor.

Bananalanacake · 05/09/2022 10:38

I'm finding the bath love/hate interesting. Our house didn't have one, we had a cheap as possible wedding so we could have a new bathroom put in with a big bath and underfloor heating, it was so worth it.

hewouldwouldnthe · 05/09/2022 10:38

Extractor over the cooker. Total waste of space and pointless. Never used. Not even sure if it does anything. Gathers dust and grease and is a bugger to clean. Stainless steel Matt so looks vile. DHs dumb idea.

Lakeyloo · 05/09/2022 10:38

Definitely bath. In fact, whole main bathroom (only 2 of us, downstairs loo and ensuite) It gets dusted every now and again if guests are coming !
Beware though... we came home from a festival last year and I decided to have my annual bath. All good until I pulled the plug out and the water came through the hallway ceiling 😫The plumber said that the seals on the trap eventually dry out so much that they disintegrate if not used. We also get a horrible cabbage smell from the bath plug hole sometimes where water sits in the trap so I now run water down it once a week.

@Alphabet1spaghetti2
Spray your neighbours brambles with SBK weed killer they'll be gone in a season. It's the perfect time now as next year's shoots are growing. It doesn't kill grass but is great on brambles and nettles.
Surely you can push the fence back and reclaim some outside space?

Unfortunately they prop all their waste building materials against the downed fence, including floorboards, insulation material, broken washing machines and rubble etc etc. The brambles are over 6ft high and the width of the garden, other weeds such as buddlia have grown through their concrete garage roof and also force the fence apart further down the garden. It’s more like living next to an unauthorised scrap yard/waste land with rats. They have no intention of using their own garden and cannot see it impacts on their neighbours. 🤷‍♀️. The only solutions are to a) fence off a third of our garden - not happening! b) to clear their fence and a portion of their garden back into their garden and replace all the fence at our own expense - which I do not see why I should have to work to pay for, plus I need that money for our own bills.

The have a yappy Pomeranian which although I wish it would stfu, I wouldn’t want to poison it. So I resign myself to chopping back/ forcing back the fence.

BestIsWest · 05/09/2022 10:59

So interesting reading about baths not being used. We’re contemplating replacing ours with a walk in shower. I probably have a bath once every three weeks and DH never does. No young DC. There isn’t room for both. But we might sell in the next few years.

AryaStarkWolf · 05/09/2022 11:02

Was the bath tub as well but we replaced it with a nice big shower a few months ago, best decision ever

BobbinThreadbare123 · 05/09/2022 11:02

Never use the bath. When we had a dog it was a small one so went in the sink or shower for a wash! Never go in the spare bedroom either, unless I'm swapping winter to summer coats from the wardrobe in there.

Cactuslockdown · 05/09/2022 11:02

Sad old shady conservatory and a
bidet!

Thelnebriati · 05/09/2022 11:04

We've only had a couple of baths since LL put in a shower. I use the bath for soaking laundry in a bucket because its easier than the sink. I've dyed some fabric in it, and once brewed a very large batch of hooch in it using a fish tank heater to keep the water warm.

Reframe it: not everything has to be used-used. Like the pp’s big bright entrance hall – it doesn’t need to be anything other than a welcoming ahhhhhh when coming home. Your big lawn doesn’t need to be romped on or gardened: think of it as “I love sitting in the sun on my front step, and when I’m inside the house, I have a lovely meadow view at the back.” Chuck some wildflower seeds out there and embrace it as a view, not a wasted thing.

Although looking at this thread I am adding up how many rooms and spaces are going unused and wasted because they are filled with DP/DH clutter and crap. To generalise wildly, every woman I know wants less stuff, and we all have partners who Amazon Prime like it’s a hobby, and trail plastic bags of wires, 10,000 old trainers, and random junk around with them. Reclaim those spaces!

ItsRainingPens · 05/09/2022 11:08

Radiator in the kitchen, which the architect insisted on. It's never been used - 14 years and counting

Deliaskis · 05/09/2022 11:22

We have a room that has been informally christened 'the pointless room'....extended last year and added 2x new bedrooms, but only really needed 1, it just made sense for the size and shape of the house to add 2. We have our lovely new master bedroom, DD's room, our old room which is now the guest room, and the utterly pointless room. It is decorated, but we can't afford to furnish it at the moment so is just there in its neutral cream and beige pointlessness. At some point it will be a sort of second lounge, TV, sofa etc. For now, it's just pointless.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 05/09/2022 11:22

Just remembered the second living room/theatre room. It's only used as a PlayStation room for my husband, oh, and the cats like napping on the sofa in there. One day I will think of something more useful to do with it.

ProfessionalWeirdo · 05/09/2022 11:27

The front garden.
