Is Amazon Prime delivery getting worse?

I've had Amazon Prime for years and up until recently it's been great for next day delivery. However my experience recently has been that promised next day delivery isn't always met and expected deliveries don't materialise and I get a "we ran into an unexpected issue with your delivery"

Is this just a local problem or are people finding this a more general issue? I guess difficulty recruiting drivers/petrol costs/other current undifferentiated awfulness might impact?

No issues here.

The last few items I have ordered have not been delivered next day. The next day delivery option was the sole reason I selected that particular item from the dozens of identical ones. Last week my daughters Airpod case went from Next Day to there is a problem with the delivery date. Turned out this was because some toerag opened and badly Gaffer taped up the empty envelope we eventually received. I am assuming (perhaps erroneously) that an employee helped themselves, otherwise who updated the delivery date and then delivered an empty envelope. I hope the £5 Jack Skellington Airpod case was worth the effort of stealing. Someone obviously thought they were getting something valuable.

I don't have Prime, but find most of my packages arrive in two days. I usually order over £20 of stuff at a time on "delivered by Amazon", so I don't have to pay delivery fees. Sounds like I'm getting a similar level of service to Prime members!

Royal Mail have always delivered the smaller parcels. The strikes will have had an impact on deliveries.

Yeah, delivery lead time is often 2 days now rather than 1 and I’ve had a few orders where it said it would be next day delivery but then got delayed.

I’m in London if that makes a difference.

They haven’t always here, I can only think of once this year.

Lilbunnyfufu · 02/09/2022 00:55

Amazon this week have been awful. They left someone else's parcel on my door which I opened to realise it was the neighbours. No idea where my parcel is that should have been delivered.
Everything i order is turning up a day later than it should. Never had issues like this before Amazon are slipping

Tellmewhatyoureallythink · 13/09/2022 11:25

I’ve noticed that default delivery date is now set to an Amazon Prime delivery day which is usually 3-4 days after I’ve ordered it. I’ve got to actively choose next day delivery. If I wanted delivery 3-4 days later, I wouldn’t be paying for Amazon Prime. I will also be reviewing it on next renewal when it goes up to £95.

I have very few issues here but I'm only a couple of miles away from a big new major depot.

Bbr

anotherpotoftea · 13/09/2022 11:50

I remember the halcyon days when you got an extra month of Prime free if your delivery was delayed.

No particular problems with them though.

OrigamiOwls · 13/09/2022 11:57

My prime remains reliably next day. My Next pass, with unlimited next day deliveries from Next, is currently useless however - every delivery has been delayed in the past few months.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/09/2022 16:06

Now l find Next brilliant.

Amazon? Pah. Majority does not arrive within a day.

NoMoreChubRub · 13/09/2022 16:19

Mines been pretty good touch wood. Always when it says it is.
Sometimes some items do say 2 days or by x date. Even with prime but i never generally need anything quick.

I just meant the thing where 3-4 day delivery option is free if you spend £20 (less on books I think). Only applicable to things "delivered by Amazon" rather than a third party seller. You can filter search results to show only these items.

For me, these things usually turn up in two days.

Decaffe · 13/09/2022 20:51

Interesting to see this thread as I’ve just wanted to order some pregnancy tests for delivery tomorrow. Usually this is fine, except for some reason the vast majority of them aren’t available for delivery until Friday - three days away! How strange.

BuwchGochGota · 13/09/2022 20:59

Deliveries usually take 2 days now here with Prime. I know we live in the middle of nowhere rural Wales, but they used to usually arrive next day.

Royal Mail deliver most Amazon parcels here, unless they're really big, and always have done. So it could be to do with workload or industrial action.

RetreatRetreatRetreat · 13/09/2022 20:59

They seem to have stopped next day delivery at weekends too now. I live 1 mile from a huge depot and if I order on a Friday the earliest I can get it is on the Monday. It's ridiculous

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 13/09/2022 21:33

Yes it is worse.

I live just down the road from an Amazon warehouse, so a huge draw was the next day delivery which was pretty reliable. But for some reason, now it's not. The site will tell me if I order within the next X hours I'm guaranteed next day delivery....and then it will be the day after. The system can obviously tell the time else it wouldn't give me that countdown so why tell me it'll be here tomorrow?! Another thing I've noticed is that if I order multiple items and try and group them accordingly, they'll still all arrive separately, and not on the nominated day. Irritating.

Plus of course the £20+ the annual sub is going up by. I'm cancelling when it's up for renewal.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 14/09/2022 13:35

@ChiefWiggumsBoy yup me too. Round the corner. And no next day.

Nikkkk · 07/07/2023 02:17

I'm finding that almost always prime delivery is now 3 days, very rarely do I find anything that is actually next day. I read that it depends on availability of stock and other factors like staff shortages etc. Surely if its not next day, don't call it prime? We pay for next day delivery, not whenever stock is available??

Sunnysidegold · 07/07/2023 07:35

Yep, I had one message that said it had been left in the shed so I didn't rush to get it as it was raining. Drove out later on to find they had just hung it on my garden fence for anyone to lift. The package was open and an item was missing. They sent a replacement but it was really annoying.

We also get stuff just left on the doorstep and it says it's been handed to the resident.
