What do kids REALLY want in party bag?

Organising the party bags for the 5yo niece.

My opinion is in the bag goes

Cake slice and a bag of sweets. (Haribo/squashes mini bags), and a mini fidget pop toy or a balloon or something like that.

has been implied I should put books or seeds or whatever in?
Surely all a 5 yo wants is actually sweets...?

DD received temporary tattoos and stickers in hers, the kids were all really excited about those! But yes kids like sweets and tat!

watcherintherye · 31/08/2022 16:50

Sweets and plastic tat. All the worthy stuff is to impress the parents!

SybilThePup · 31/08/2022 16:51

Books and seeds are sweet.

But ime, yes, your average 5 year old would be most delighted with a big bag of sweets.

I'm sure there will be plenty along to tell us about how their dc far prefer the books and seeds though...obviously far more cultured than the 5 year olds I know 😂

They like tat, parents prefer things that are disposable so stickers, temporary tattoos and bubbles are great because they get used up. Sweets are good but have some veggie ones on standby - haribo are not suitable for vegetarians or some religions.

We put a small mason jar of chia seeds in ours with a poem on the side of how to make chia pudding, a pot of organic carrot sticks from the local farm in the place of birthday cake and a small recycled cup with “arabella’s party 2021” and a pic of her face for them to reuse.

everyone said it was the best party bag ever

We did a football party for my son one year…. Gave each kid a proper football…. Sports direct used to do a massive box of sondico balls quite cheaply. They had that a land a cupcake. Done!

Sweets

Floydthebarber · 31/08/2022 16:55

Mine (5 & 7) want sweets, a slice of cake, a balloon and a bouncy ball. Other plastic tat is joyfully received but these seem to be the top hits. Mostly sweets.

PuttingDownRoots · 31/08/2022 16:55

Just buy them a share bag of haribo each. It will work out cheaper.

BringOnSummerHolidays · 31/08/2022 16:56

Sweets and cake. Everything else gets them excited for 5 minute max.

We did a slice of cake, a twig pencil and a colouring sheet from here: https://www.treetoolsforschools.org.uk/categorymenu/?cat=seasons&name=Seasons%20and%20festivals&col=F3859B

Tattoos, stickers, balloons, bubbles, bouncy balls.

for my 5yo recently we had a bouncy ball, a glow stick, a balloon, cake and sweeties.

the very basic balloons seemed to be the most exciting.

Treacletoots · 31/08/2022 17:00

@ShirleyPhallus pretty sure I went to your party last year. Did you also serve the kids vegetable soreen instead of cake? (True story)

Treacletoots · 31/08/2022 17:01

On a side note we didn't do party bags. We just bought a bulk lot of bouncy space hoppers foe them to take home. Trying to do minimal waste.

(or apologies and Blush if you’re not joking. I like to hedge my bets!)

We did a hoola hoop and a bag of sweets with a balloon on a ribbon. The hoops were pretty cheep of Amazon something like 10 for £15 so less than £2. The hoops are still around and get played with so didn't feel like there was too much plastic. During lockdown when we couldn't have a in person party I made bags and dropped them at peoples houses (a week in advance so they could quarantine them) and because we couldn't have cake we did cake in a mug kit which was really popular too, party was via zoom with an online escape room. All well received. Bath bombs and tattoos are popular if you do try to avoid too many sweets.

aliloandabanana · 31/08/2022 17:12

To be honest, all mine are ever interested in is the sweets! Maybe the cake but not always. Really, don't worry about getting anything useful or educational - just go for the haribos!

Whoareyoumyfriend · 31/08/2022 17:17

Bubbles, a bouncy ball, sweets, cake. Easy. Although my boy is coeliac and never included in the cake. Breaks my heart every time

WaitingRoomBoredom · 31/08/2022 17:17

Cake, sweets, balloon. Once she got a nice wand though and she still plays with that. The tiny pots of bubbles are rubbish and not worth the plastic.

Rainbowcat99 · 31/08/2022 17:21

Every party bag ds has ever been given has ended up spilt over the back seat of the car before we got home from the party. Just go for sweets and simple things.
A book or fun socks I'd say are about the only things that lasted longer than the car journey.

Your poor boy :( my DD is coeliac too but every party she's been to the host has always made sure there was GF cake for her

I put those foam gliders in once and they were popular. Could always put whistles in if you don't like the parents Grin
