What do kids REALLY want in party bag?

Organising the party bags for the 5yo niece.

My opinion is in the bag goes

Cake slice and a bag of sweets. (Haribo/squashes mini bags), and a mini fidget pop toy or a balloon or something like that.

has been implied I should put books or seeds or whatever in?
Surely all a 5 yo wants is actually sweets...?

All mine ever wanted was a kitten...

Sweets and tat! Raid the party bag section in Tesco. The kids love it and at the end of the day, that is what it is all about!

declutteringmymind · 31/08/2022 18:52

Sweets. Especially American ones with bad ingredients and Color's. Or anything that will stick to the floor of a car eg lollipops.

Anything contraband or annoying eg whistles, whoopie cushions.

Anything that looks like it's been thrown up by a unicorn. Glittery pens etc.

Dd ended up with so much junk with party after party. I refused to give out junk. I bought a job lot of little age appropriate books like Little Miss / Mr Men and sweets etc. One year they made crowns for themselves with sticky sparkles so that was an extra. At about 8, everyone turns their nose up at a book and I then changed to just sweetie cones.

caringcarer · 31/08/2022 19:00

For my son's parties when he was about 3-8 I put in sweets, chocolate bar, toy car. They all seemed happy enough.

Wafflehouse · 31/08/2022 19:18

The only one I ever did was a reusable cup from the pound shop and filled it with sweets, it went down really well but I’ve never bothered again because my dc were never that fussed on what they were given at parties. Thankfully, party bags seem to have died out at our school.

Thesearmsofmine · 31/08/2022 19:20

Sweets, bouncy ball, cake, gliders, bubbles

We put a small mason jar of chia seeds in ours with a poem on the side of how to make chia pudding, a pot of organic carrot sticks from the local farm in the place of birthday cake and a small recycled cup with “arabella’s party 2021” and a pic of her face for them to reuse.

everyone said it was the best party bag ever

The only time I went cer-azy and deviated from the above was the year we did cake and inflatable saxophone from Amazon.

They were hugely popular. With the kids too Grin

Sweets, bubbles, bouncy ball other plastic tat and something noisy.

I stopped bothering with party bags when my kids were about 7 and 6. Nobody died.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 31/08/2022 19:30

No books, no seeds, no craft activities - they do not like them, even if the book is a good one, which it never is. Sweets, cake, balloon, tattoos, stickers, party snaps are all good.

My 8 year old had a party on Sunday and we did party bags and no one died either!

We went with a little chocolate bar, cake, some smelly play doh, little notebooks, pencils, rubbers and markers.

Some friends do sweet cones and stuff.

They were lying!

Aworldofmyown · 31/08/2022 19:49

I fought it for years and bought books etc
They love the tat and sweets 😆

Skyeheather · 31/08/2022 19:52

My kids love the cake the most!

The best gifts have been a mini colouring book and a box of pencils, both mine love colouring. They also love the mini bags of Haribo and Freddo Frogs. We also have a couple of mini bouncy spiders which they play with now and again. They enjoyed the tattoos but we have so many now the novelty wore off.

They don't like mini bubbles, the bubbles are too small and too much effort! Balloons get burst within a few minutes. Snap bands are boring, we've had so many this year the soft toys are all wearing them! They hate the millions that you get in the sweet cones, they go straight in the bin even I don't like them getting stuck in my teeth. The worst party bag we got contained pots of paint and some brushes, please don't send my child home with anything that makes a mess!

The best party we went to was when each child left with a slice of cake wrapped in a napkin and a sweet cone, I was thrilled - no plastic tat to add the the big box of plastic tat we already have.

A full sized chocolate bar would be an amazing party bag in my children’s opinion. Not the little treat size they get at home but full big bar.

What like a mars bar size or a big Cadbury bar size?

Lots of different small sweets to inspect and compare always a hit. Stickers are my go to as well.
Last party I added tat - mini slinky and invisible ink pen and pad - they were hit wth most children , got job lot from Amazon

sittingonacornflake · 31/08/2022 20:06

What do people think about hot chocolate bombes for a winter birthday?

Limesarebitter · 31/08/2022 20:13

The biggest hit here was a pet fish. Plastic bag filled with water and a fake plastic fish, tied up to look like one you would win at the fair.

Reusable cup filled with sweets always goes down well.

Other than that, bouncy ball, glider, sweets and chocolate are appreciated.

The usual plastic tat, bubbles, puzzles and crayons are instantly forgotten.

Cake is never eaten by mine but loved by mum!

DelurkingAJ · 31/08/2022 20:14

Based on DS2 (don’t ask about DS1, I’ll be accused of making him up) then (at 6) sweets, temporary tattoos and punch balloons. Other big hits have been blow up light sabres and kids footballs at a toddler party (that still come out now in the garden).

sthonore · 31/08/2022 20:27

We made sweet kebabs with flumps etc and a piece of cake - went down well and was cheap - some people make them on Etsy too quite reasonably

1982mommaof4 · 31/08/2022 20:41

Sweets, slime, sweets bubbles sweets sweets
