What do kids REALLY want in party bag?

Organising the party bags for the 5yo niece.

My opinion is in the bag goes

Cake slice and a bag of sweets. (Haribo/squashes mini bags), and a mini fidget pop toy or a balloon or something like that.

has been implied I should put books or seeds or whatever in?
Surely all a 5 yo wants is actually sweets...?

We put foam gliders in our Halloween bags last year and not sure about the kids, but the dads got very excited 😂

Bubbles, a bouncy ball, sweets, cake. Easy. Although my boy is coeliac and never included in the cake. Breaks my heart every time

Jeez, over-dramatic much?

Give the party parents a GF cake to give to him at the end. DD2 had to have a specialist diet and we always did that - and took party food for her.

DD received temporary tattoos and stickers in hers, the kids were all really excited about those! But yes kids like sweets and tat!

Nice, I like the idea of temporary tattoos...

We just have everyone a bubble wand 50p each from Asda, and ordered off Amazon, some tags that said 'thank you for coming to my party' super cheap and all the kids loved them.

My son has an egg allergy and we do take cake for him but it's not the same - he does feel left out when everyone else is having something else.

Obviously worse things happen at sea but he was genuinely upset about it when he was little.

Kids want a bag containing something sugary they can eat plus cheap junk. If, as an adult, you think it's quite nice, you've failed. Should be full of tat.

MinervaTerrathorn · 31/08/2022 17:46

Sweets, cake, high bounce ball, punch balloon

Classicblunder · 31/08/2022 17:46

I wouldn't do crayons or pencils - we have so many and the kids aren't especially excited by a small pack of pencils.

I would agree that sweets are the main thing (small packets with ingredients on for kids with allergies are very thoughtful) - but I think a small toy goes down well, e.g. car, dinosaur, animal. Mine would like a book but not so much seeds... That is a bit naff

riotlady · 31/08/2022 17:48

Another vote for gliders, DD has had them a couple of times and loved it!

But yes, sweets and tat. Larger variety of small sweets (eg. Little bag of haribo, Freddo, flump) is more exciting than a single larger chocolate bar or bag of sweets.

Anything that lights up or glows in the dark also a good shout

Mommabear20 · 31/08/2022 17:51

You can get mini packets of crayons and a 4 pack of mini colouring books from the £1 shop which IMO would be better than plastic tat. But otherwise, yes sweets and cake! 😂

Needmorelego · 31/08/2022 17:52

Packet of Smarties
Hot Wheels style car
Piece of the cake

(I suggest this on every thread like these 🙂)

yoshiblue · 31/08/2022 17:53

Defo big bag of Haribo.

For preschoolers breaking down a pack of Dr Seuss books is nice

We put a small mason jar of chia seeds in ours with a poem on the side of how to make chia pudding, a pot of organic carrot sticks from the local farm in the place of birthday cake and a small recycled cup with “arabella’s party 2021” and a pic of her face for them to reuse.

everyone said it was the best party bag ever

This cracked me up.

plinkplinkfizzer · 31/08/2022 17:55

Is there ever been a kid ever who doesn't like a tattoos ? I remember them from when I was a kid .

Hintofreality · 31/08/2022 17:56

We normally raid the sale at Smiggle for party bag tat. Pens, rubbers, nail polish, slime and mini chocolate bars are favourites.

goldenbag · 31/08/2022 17:58

Sweets cake stickers

Surtsey · 31/08/2022 18:00

Sweets, cake, sweets, plastic tat toy, sweets, stickers, sweets.

Did I say sweets?

Moonlaserbearwolf · 31/08/2022 18:07

Sweets. Nothing else ever compares.

Himawarigirl · 31/08/2022 18:10

We’ve done bath bombs a couple of times. My daughter and her friends love them.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 31/08/2022 18:11

The best response to a party favour I ever got was some of those proper old-fashioned magic slate draw and erase things.

Favouritefruits · 31/08/2022 18:11

A full sized chocolate bar would be an amazing party bag in my children’s opinion. Not the little treat size they get at home but full big bar.

LaTangerina · 31/08/2022 18:13

We've never done the cake slice in the party bag, and we've never been to a party & been given that (although that was definitely a thing when I was a kid).
Some people fill the bag with a bag of crisps so it takes up most of the room.
I usually put in small toys/stationery - I really like parties so my kids party bags have usually been a little extra in the past 😄
Usually there's a theme - this year I did a shopping party so all the girls got little handbags, money to spend, a shopping scavenger hunt, then I had prizes for what kind of shoppers they were (fidget toys & squishys went down well). Also at the end each girl got a party bag full of sweets.
In the past I've done an LOL doll themed party (all the kids got a fake LOL doll in the party bag with sweets - they could tell immediately they were fakes & I was waiting for them to be fired back at me 🤣). Another year I did a teddy bear stuffing party & each kid got a bear to bring home & sweets in their party bags ... basically you can't go wrong with sweets!

womaninatightspot · 31/08/2022 18:13

We blew up punch balloons for everyone they were popular and those finger ring torches.

Yes. My DS hates them. Ditto face painting. Sorry
