They are investigating for high usage.
they increased it to £800, which I’ve paid cos I thought they’d work out it wasn’t right and It would be an overpayment.

Do you have any outstanding debt on the account? What provider is this? Something must have gone wrong somewhere. Even 300 is quite high imo

Talia99 · 29/08/2022 13:46

Is that per month or per quarter? Either way it’s high but one is worse than the other.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/08/2022 13:46

Things to check:

For what period is this for and is the bill estimated or based on meter readings?

Was your previous bill accurate and was there any debt on the account?

How does it compare with the same period last year?

If you pay by direct debit have all the payments been credited to the account?

cakeorwine · 29/08/2022 13:47

Do you have a Smart meter?
What is your annual usage in KWH?
Have you got some recent statements showing readings?

BarbaraofSeville · 29/08/2022 13:49

You haven't accidentally left an immersion heater or similar on?

Good idea to do daily readings of your meters, also turn everything in the house off for an hour and see if the meters are still counting up.

You don't have neighbours stealing your electricity to grow weed, do you?

FindingMeno · 29/08/2022 14:58

That must be wrong 😮

Veuvelily · 29/08/2022 19:33

Long story
earlier this year they recalculated the last couple of years with readings I had sent them at the time, but they hadn’t used.
I owed a bit more, but not much, but the issue was that then they used that one bill as the basis to calculate my future use. Went from £300 to £800.
I then went back and forth with them, they needed 3 months of regular readings and they identified ‘high usage’ and set up an investigation. Would take a month. Month is up, chased them via email, no response yet. Just looked on my account and they’re suggesting I up my dd to £1300.

Annual usage
19k elec
46k gas
but that’s basing it on the recalculated numbers
here’s the recent readings

My Electricity from 30th June to last week showed £86 75 .my gas £38
I rang up in a panic couldn't understand it.
I have no electric cooker haven't used my drier ,rarely do even in winter
All I have is usual things.kettle ,TV microwave, air fryer .lights .nothing else
I was told my usage was no different to my last few readings.it is the price that has gone up
I have no idea how people are going to manage
I just have my state pension and that's it

BorgQueen · 29/08/2022 20:01

46THOUSAND kwh of Gas???
That’s 4x the average household useage of 12k.
Electric is 6x the average!
That’s 10 bedroom mansion with no double glazing level of use 😱

Is 19k elec and 46k gas actually what you're using?

That's about 4 houses worth? Is your house very big? What do you mean 'you don't have a meter'? You must have, everyone does and you have numbers.

Also, do you actually use a lot of electricity at night? (Storage heaters/electric car)? If not, it's generally not worth being on Economy 7, so something else to look at.

SpittinKitten · 29/08/2022 20:12

Jfc - are you in a mansion?
Granted it's just me in a 1 bed flat, but my useage is at most 1.3k kwh electricity and 3.3k kwh gas..

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 29/08/2022 20:24

That's insane amounts, we are in a poorly insulated 5 bed detached. 10 people, crazy amounts of laundry (autistic ds regurgitates and smears) and ours is less than half that!!

Veuvelily · 29/08/2022 21:16

That annual usage is based on their calculations and I think it’s recalculated from 3/4 years worth. I have a meter, sorry I meant I don’t have a smart meter.

cakeorwine · 29/08/2022 22:04

You look like you use a lot of electricity from those readings - the gas doesn't seem too bad but I can't see the winter months of December and January.

What size house have you got?
