My DD turns 30 soon and has just been through a massive breakup. She is remaking stoic and positive. She adores books and as part of the gifts I want to give her I would like to include a life affirming book. Not a self help type book but maybe a wonderfully uplifting novel. I think my problem might be knowing what she has already read but any suggestions would be gratefully accepted. Thanks.

I loved Where the Crawdads Sing.

The Keeper of Stories

The Once and Future Witches

I found all these life affirming.

Mansfield Park

Thank you.

I think she might like The Once and Future Witches. She has just read Practical Magic and is now reading the sequel. This seems to have the same vibes.

I loved Watermelon my Marian Keyes when my marriage fell apart aged 24.

Ah, then she might like the Vine Witch trilogy by Luanne Smith. They're fabulous books.

Francesca's Party, Patricia Scanlan is absolutely the book you are looking for.

I went through a real Sense and Sensibility phase when I had a similar break up. My mum’s friend made a passing comment and it was an instant “that is what I want to read” moment.

I also read The Silence of the Girls around then.

Three Women and a Boat might fit the bill, or The Enchanted April.
