Is anyone thinking of cancelling Amazon Prime due to the price increase?

I pay the yearly subscription fee so I am tied in until next year but I am thinking of cancelling.

We use the amazon music mostly so I would need to find an alternative to that. Does anyone know one that is free?

I do use next day delivery but even that is hit and miss with deliveries taking up to two days.

The TV we've found, is awful!

We have an Alexa which we use all the time so I am hoping we can still use her if we cancel!!

Ours renews in March and we’re struggling to decide what to do.

The TV offering is sometimes good, eg I loved Paper Girls and Licorice Pizza has just come on which I’ve been wanting to watch. But we watch far more on Netflix and BBC iPlayer.

We don’t bother with Amazon Music as we use Spotify, and I don’t like the way Amazon Music works (I forget why but some little niggly things annoy me).

We do get a lot of use out of next-day and same-day delivery though. If yours are taking two days are you sure you’re selecting the right option at checkout? Sometimes it will say next-day is available but then default to ‘Amazon Day’ and you have to manually change it.

Immeltinnnnngggg · 29/08/2022 10:13

Yes, it advertises as next day on the front screen but when I get to checkout, it is not next day, it is two days later.
That is with choosing the next available day.
We live in the city so not exactly in the sticks. It's really strange.

I think I will miss it though and would have to be more organised.

I've just cancelled mine. I use Amazon music a lot and it still plays through my Alexa as normal although it now has ads which is annoying. I need to look and see if I can get music on its own and the price

I am tied in until March 2023 and will look more closely how I use Amazon.

I don't use the Prime Kindle lilbrary as I have Kindle unlimited anyway (and will keep that). While next day delivery has it's advantages, the amount of time I really need it urgent is not that big and I found I try to buy from other stores and they often offer next day delivery for a higher postage an I doubt I would need it enought to justify the Prime price tag.

The only thing we now look into is Amazon Prime Music. DD's Alexa struggles to link to Spotify and we think it may work better for her. Prime TV is a hit and miss for us but I don't watch a lot of TV anyway.

Spotify - you have a free version and a paid for subscription. Ours is paid but it's part of DH's work (his work is linked to music industry and he needs to have a music library at his fingertips) and he really uses it a lot also privately.

anotherpotoftea · 29/08/2022 10:18

Re TV: a lot of the shows I watch on there now are ’free with ads’, so less motivation to continue subscribing ( and feel less valued as a subscriber also).

Treecreature · 29/08/2022 10:19

We're keeping. Use amazon music daily. Use the videos often enough. Have about 12 gig of photos saved on the storage thing. Use the prime delivery on a weekly basis. We sometimes read the magazines but not often enough. I think its good value for what we get.

shebathequeenof · 29/08/2022 10:20

Thanks for the reminder to cancel. I watch netflix and same issue with next day delivery not really existing

angelopal · 29/08/2022 10:20

No as watch TV and also make good use of prime reading and music

Itsallyellow22 · 29/08/2022 10:21

We cancelled a couple of months ago. Haven't missed it at all. Like a pp said the "next day delivery" was less and less true, and I've found I'm more mindfully of spending now. We didn't use the music and as for TV, there's loads available elsewhere so we didn't really watch it.

Skinnermarink · 29/08/2022 10:22

No, I find I watch loads more on there than I ever do on Netflix, House of Dragon, Dr Death, Becoming Elizabeth, The Girl From Plainville, The Act and now Rosemary’s Baby. I’ve binned Netflix instead.

MsMarvellous · 29/08/2022 10:22

No. We live rurally and they are a very reliable speedy delivery service in our area. We watch the TV, listen to the music, use it for business purchases etc. As much as it's a moral quandary as I prefer to support small businesses, I'm afraid convenience is beating me down.

Especially when it costs me £5 in fuel to get to the nearest shopping centre and back, the Amazon fee for delivery alone is worth it.

Minikievs · 29/08/2022 10:22

I've cancelled mine, I pay yearly usually. Runs out October

worriedatthistime · 29/08/2022 10:23

No as first price increase in ages and I still get value for money as order bin bags and regular household bits online all the time and its not a huge increase compared to others

Skinnermarink · 29/08/2022 10:24

Ok HOD is on OKTV but I’ll have to keep my subscription going for Rings of Power, not missing that.

lollipoprainbow · 29/08/2022 10:27

We had the Alexa unlimited music for 4.99 a month it's now gone up to £9.99 no thanks !!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 29/08/2022 10:28

Were keeping, we use amazon music daily, all photos upload to amazon photos and ill still be saving loads in delivery costs since i order so much. Not fussed with the tv but DP does seem to watch quite a bit on it

Immeltinnnnngggg · 29/08/2022 10:32

Ohhhh forgot about prime reading!
I use that loads!!

GetOffTheRoof · 29/08/2022 10:35

No, keeping it. The next day delivery is hit and miss, but it depends on where they are sending it from and to.

I use Prime a lot for films rather then TV programmes. Probably 4-5 films a week at least as I tend to have them on instead of TV generally.

I'm also a Kindle obsessive so appreciate that part of the business.

hewouldwouldnthe · 29/08/2022 10:39

Do you still get free postage without amazon prime. I only got it for that reason. I love the amazon music £7.99 with prime, so would keep that and pay a bit extra. Not bothered about prime tv. I piggyback disney + and netflix, so if they tightened up their rules, I would have to get some paying channel.

Blush21 · 29/08/2022 10:40

I think of it this way…ordering on eBay sometimes has 2-3 day delivery if not
more, Amazons almost always delivers next day to me and we’re a fair bit out of the city. Plus ordering items elsewhere would easily be £2/£3 postage, 2/3 orders on Amazon a month is me getting my moneys worth, plus we use prime video etc. the increase is £1 which I can absorb for the convenience

IdiotCreatures · 29/08/2022 10:41

Read an article that said it was from the 15th of September and then went and checked my renewal date which was the 5th of September but Amazon told me it would be 95.00 pounds on that date, so have set a reminder to cancel it on the 1st of September. Probably a good thing, it makes it way to easy to buy things and a lot of the time similar stuff is no delivery fee on eBay.

Cupofteainthemorning · 29/08/2022 10:41

I cancelled Amazon prime a while ago. It really makes me think twice about ordering something. Most of the time it was impulse purchases or because I couldn't be bothered going to the shop. I now ask myself - Do I actually need it? Can I get it when I go shopping instead? Do I really need it next day or can it wait a few more days?
I generally wait until I need several things at once and do one bulk order instead of doing lots of smaller deliveries. Anything that's not free delivery I get on eBay which usually is free delivery or cheaper.
Obviously people that can't physically leave their house or live in the middle of nowhere might rely on deliveries more.

hummerbird · 29/08/2022 10:43

We cancelled most things at beginning of Summer, use free YouTube with ads and considering subscribing to avoid ads. Wide range of music and you can make your own Mix list on free. We also watch old tv series and films as well as quirky postings.

HappydaysArehere · 29/08/2022 10:43

It’s the deliveries that matter to me. The other things like Alexa, Prime Tv, Kindle are just bonuses.

AnneElliott · 29/08/2022 10:44

I'm going to cancel once DH has finished watching a series he's started. We don't use the music and I think the TV offering is awful.
