Is anyone thinking of cancelling Amazon Prime due to the price increase?

Immeltinnnnngggg · 29/08/2022 09:59

I pay the yearly subscription fee so I am tied in until next year but I am thinking of cancelling.

We use the amazon music mostly so I would need to find an alternative to that. Does anyone know one that is free?

I do use next day delivery but even that is hit and miss with deliveries taking up to two days.

The TV we've found, is awful!

We have an Alexa which we use all the time so I am hoping we can still use her if we cancel!!

Deliveries (to us) are really fast and we don’t have Prime. They’ve cleverly created a myth that you need prime to get stuff quickly I think!

CrabbitBastard · 29/08/2022 10:47

I was wondering this too

I was getting fed up with the shows that you have to pay extra for even on top of paying for Amazon prime.

The amazon prime shows are shite, although DH loves the grand tour.

We have alexa in my office and DDs room and I do enjoy listening to music.

I agree re: next day delivery - its not always next day.

So I am also not sure what to do.

Willowwarble · 29/08/2022 10:48

Like MsMarvellous for me it's good value for delivery, nearest small shop 5 miles away, nearest big supermarket/town 25 miles away so much cheaper than using my car. Don't really use much else, sometimes watch a film but that's about it.

I pay monthly, rather than annually. I read a tip on here about cancelling this month and then signing up again to get in before the price rise, but there was more to it I think, but I don't remember what.

any ideas?

at £6.98/£7.99 (can't remember which) per month two deliveries 'free, next day' per month, I could justify the cost, but I need to look into how much it's going up by & if it's worth it to me. I don't use any of the music/tv/reading stuff.

thewatermeloncarriedbybaby · 29/08/2022 10:51

We pay £3.99 per month for the Alexa - can't find out what it's supposed to give us, but we can now only get it to play songs rather than "stations" if we're signed up to Prime. So, if we stick with Prime can we cancel the £3.99 charge and still get full services on the Alexa, does anyone know?

VerifiedBot2351 · 29/08/2022 10:52

If you are with Vodafone, they can add Prime to your phone bill for £2 a month.

womaninatightspot · 29/08/2022 10:54

I’m keeping like a pp live rurally so appreciate having a delivery option. I use prime music a lot, prime video is hit and miss but Rings of power and second season of good omens. I don’t think it’s overly expensive for what you get. I don’t have Netflix etc though just prime/iplayer/Disney for a month in the holidays.

@VerifiedBot2351

Is that on any mobile account do you know?

DuckWithOneWing · 29/08/2022 10:57

If you don't have Prime or Music you can still listen to music through Alexa. You get adverts, and you can only skip a certain number of songs per hour. You also can't request a specific song or artist, but just get a mix of whatever they think is most like your request.

Trinity65 · 29/08/2022 11:03

I had Amazon Prime but that was the first to go when making cuts .

I never watched very much on it at all anyway
I prefer, and have kept, Netflix

TheNefariousOrange · 29/08/2022 11:06

We have prime, netflix, Disney+ and Spotify premium so we have decided something needs to go and prime will probably be the one that goes. I have a long commute and live rurally with big stretches without radio so Spotify is a must, I also use that on the alexa. I prefer the shows on netflix and have found prime has become stale and I'm also fed up of starting a series for the last series to be paid-for only. DC prefer Disney too and it's saved us a lot this summer on trips to the cinema because we can watch a family friendly film, and some are really new too.

AllFreeOwls · 29/08/2022 11:09

I'm not impressed by the price rise but that is probably one I'll keep. Don't really watch the TV options (although I am looking forward to session 2 of Good Omens) or the music options, however I do get good use of of the next day delivery option. I live fairly rurally so popping to the shops isn't a quick task, also factoring in the price of fuel, getting next day delivery is really useful for us. Also I've got all my household essentials set up on subscribe and save so it would be a real hassle to cancel.

GrandSlamFinalee · 29/08/2022 11:11

I cancelled mine in June. I live in a big city so not worth it for the deliveries, I just need to plan it better into my week and set aside some time for the shops I wouldn’t normally go to that sell the odd item I used to get with prime. Use Spotify for music (5 quid with student discount) and have family shared Netflix.

When I get really busy at work this winter I might consider paying for it for 1-2 months just for the ease of delivery.

rc22 · 29/08/2022 11:14

I'm finding the delivery is now taking two days rather than one.
I'm currently still ploughing through This is Us but once I've finished that I might get rid as DH doesn't really watch anything on there either.

CardiffMam · 29/08/2022 11:15

I've only had Prime when they give you a month free, but I never pay for postage. If I want anything quickly I check if it's free postage, as many things are, otherwise if I need it quickly I add other things like shampoos or cleaning stuff to make it up to £20 to get free postage.

Most things arrive the next day or the day after that.

VerifiedBot2351 · 29/08/2022 11:18

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination I’m not sure but I got the deal when I spoke to them last week.

Ilovechoc12 · 29/08/2022 11:19

No - I find it really convenient than taking 4 children to the shops …. That’s worth something plus the car parking costs in town too …. So I don’t mind paying for it as it makes my life so much easier and I can be more organised

KatherineofGaunt · 29/08/2022 11:21

I had it, just cancelled yesterday. I was using it for quick delivery for my small business, but I've given that up so I don't need it anymore. I figured not only do I save the monthly subscription fee, but I will have to consider a bit more about what I'm buying, how long it'll take to get here and whether it's cheaper from other sites/physical shops. I think it'll actually mean I won't bother buying things as much from there, so less of an automatic thing and more of a thoughtful process, therefore saving money. .

Blowthemandown · 29/08/2022 11:36

@Immeltinnnnngggg I have noticed it will say next day, then if the basket has an alternative it will default to that and I have to manually change it to same or next day. But I can always get same or next day if that was originally available (as long as not too late in the day). So maybe check the default. That said, I try not to use same or next day unless it is important or I’ve got lots coming together. It’s still worth it for us to pay for it.

abovedecknotbelow · 29/08/2022 11:39

I'm keeping it, I've just checked and I had 73 deliveries in the last 12 months. It's really useful for when the kids need random shit at school with no notice and I can't get to the shops during the week as working and DH has the car for work during the week.

I probably need to address the 73 deliveries though.

I have a HAYU subscription on top only for Below Deck to I have one season to go so will be cancelling that and just restart or if there is something I want to watch.

BadlydoneHelen · 29/08/2022 11:39

I'll keep it for the deliveries/sending gifts to people alone as it's cheaper than driving to town and paying for parking a couple of times a month. That's before the TV and other stuff

anon666 · 29/08/2022 11:42

Not me, I think it's still a bargain. Next day shipping is the thing I most frequently use, but the TV thrown in is a bonus. I'd probably lose Netflix first if it weren't for the teens

burnoutbabe · 29/08/2022 11:53

Don't forget free Deliveroo subscription too.

I have student prime so 50% off. Will check. In April if I renew or not, it's marginal at 50% off. Probably safe enough from the Deliveroo fees saved as I used that a few times a month.

Nidan2Sandan · 29/08/2022 11:55

We have so many subscription services.

NowTV
Prime
Paramount
Disney
Netflix
Amazon music

I'm thinking of cancelling music and Netflix. I love Netflix but really I only watch crime documentaries and DH and I watch Witcher.

NowTV is fairly cheap sky tv.
Prime, we use delivery loads and watch the tv a lot at the moment.
Paramount is the only place to get Star Trek these days
Disney as my DH is star wars obsessed.

But it's all such a crazy price still. We may have to make the sacrifices even further, but it pains me .

Yaw · 29/08/2022 11:59

I will be keeping mine as even with the price increase I still get a bargain. as I use my prime sub on twitch every month, the free monthly games plus the TV and delivery is worth it for me as I buy pretty much everything off amazon.
Don't really use the music though or the kindle reading and they don't do prime groceries in my area.
Netflix on the other hand though has gone.
