GCSE online Maths tutor required

Hi, my son is going into Year 10 and has always struggled with maths. I'm a primary school teacher so was able to help him with his maths SATS but feel totally out of depth with GCSE maths!
Any recommendations for someone who can help him please? Would love him to feel more confident and understand the subject more.

Thanks in advance.

I live in Manchester so if anyone can recommend a tutor local to do 1 to 1 that might also work but online is also fine if there are good recommendations.

My friend recommended MyTutor. You can set up a free 15minute meeting with the tutor before you sign up to one.

I teach maths on line so could help, if you would like to pm me. If you prefer someone to work with your son face to face, please make sure that whoever you pick is a qualified teacher. So many 'tutors' have no teaching qualifications. Just this morning a 16 year old posted on our Facebook page as a tutor. Hope all goes well xxx

£875 for 12 sessions 😱

Spymum786 · 29/08/2022 18:13

Thanks. Are you a teacher? I agree, teachers just have that bit extra

I'm a teacher and paid £30 an hour for my daughter's tutor, he was amazing and gave loads of feedback too so not just tutor and go. That price of £875 seems extortionate to me (making me consider what I can tutor though if I can get paid that much an hour- I honestly thought it was a typo until I looked!!)

Spymum786 · 29/08/2022 19:46

In know! That is SO expensive!

OP posts:
Wavingnotdowning · 29/08/2022 21:11

I think that is too expensive. I live in the South East and charge £35 an hour for online lessons, which is the going rate here.

Theabingdonmathshub · 29/08/2022 21:11

Hi @Spymum786 I gained my PGCE from the University of Oxford in 2013. I have been teaching Maths since and also gained my master in Learning and Teaching from Oxford. I charge £45 for online lessons.

I'd definitely look around as that is extortionate by anyones standards. I'm all for a fair wage but that's really pricing out many people (which I know is often the way). Some can find an extra £30 a week but can't find that amount of money!!

Hi @Spymum786

If still looking — disclosure first, I tutor maths on Sherpa myself (Top Rated, 5/5 from 9 reviews, 100+ lessons taught, DBS-checked). Online, UK-wide, £40/hr, free 20-minute intro before any commitment.

Whether you go with me or anyone else, the things worth checking on a profile are: DBS visible, recent reviews (not just total count — recency matters), and the tutor's response time. Slow-replying tutors tend to be slow-replying through the relationship too.
