Do you use the books/games in a holiday let?

Just wondering! I own a holiday property with a book case in the hall. It’s a small space, I’d like to replace the bookcase with a console table.

DH says people would miss the books.

what do you think?

I love finding random books and games at a holiday let - would much rather have that than a console table!

Skelligsfeathers · 25/08/2022 21:15

Definitely! Especially the books.
A set of monopoly in a holiday cottage tears was the start of a holiday tradition for my family.

Oh you buggers! DH is going to win!

One of my most precious memories of our first last and only holiday (pre lockdown) with DS was DH finding The Snail and the Whale and reading it to him at christmas in the holiday cottage we were staying in.

IHateWasps · 25/08/2022 21:18

Definitely. The books are the best part.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 25/08/2022 21:18

DS was 4 months old at the time and we’ve never had a holiday again.

Anon50000 · 25/08/2022 21:18

I love finding books in holiday lets. Keep the books!

JudgeRindersMinder · 25/08/2022 21:19

Sorry but I’m another one for team bookcase!

Sonnex · 25/08/2022 21:20

Yes to the games. I don't tend to read the books as I have a Kindle but if there's non fiction ones like nice walks in the area, history of the area I love a browse of them over breakfast!

DuesToTheDirt · 25/08/2022 21:20

Books only rarely, I worry I won't finish it before leaving, and I'm often in the middel of a different book anyway.

We definitely use the games.

ImBoilingJackie · 25/08/2022 21:21

Love a holiday let book. Read one recently that I wouldn't have otherwise considered. Left a book there too that I had bought in a charity shop.

Keroppi · 25/08/2022 21:21

Wall shelves? floating storage above console table? A nice wicker basket under the table with board games in?

Abraxan · 25/08/2022 21:22

Never use the books. We all have kindles so,use them instead.

Games - sometimes, depending on what they are. But not that often.

Maltester71 · 25/08/2022 21:22

I don’t have too many fiction books. Quite a few autobiographies, books about travel, non fiction generally.

just fancied a console table !😂

Thatboymum · 25/08/2022 21:23

books never games occasionally I’d be happier to have a game console for the kids to be honest

Thornrose · 25/08/2022 21:23

No to the books but yes to the games.

Love discovering random board games and a pack of cards instead of TV when on holiday 😁

JumpTheGun · 25/08/2022 21:24

We always make use of children’s books, and games are a godsend on a rainy day. We had a brilliant rainy day in a holiday let last year teaching the DC how to play monopoly.

I rarely read novels in a holiday let (I usually have a backlog of books of my own to read) but books on the local area or something I can dip into (coffee table type books) I will always look at.

Definitely team bookcase!

Maltester71 · 25/08/2022 21:25

It’s a long narrow hallway, there’s a shoe basket and then a bookcase, I don’t think there’s room for shelves above sadly. Annoying because the rest of the place is really big - just a narrow
hallway and quite a lot of art on the walls in the whole place, so hard to incorporate a bookcase

OP posts:
Hercisback · 25/08/2022 21:25

Could you put bookcase elsewhere?

We use book (especially kids ones) and games.

Maltester71 · 25/08/2022 21:26

We have cards, quizzes, a jigsaw of the area. Can’t believe we didn’t have monopoly. Need to sort that out! We have a sea view and binoculars though!

Sorry yes ,one of the joys of a holiday cottage is reading a random book. I also love flyers for local attractions- provided they are kept up to date.
One of my sadnesses during covid is that these things were stripped out when we did get to go away and I was so delighted when we went to Whitby last summer to discover a slightly dusty fully stocked book case.

Maltester71 · 25/08/2022 21:26

I don’t think the bookcase could go anywhere else, no

OP posts:
Maltester71 · 25/08/2022 21:27

(I kept mine during covid, I thought it was ridiculous)

We have a holiday let and have loads of books and games. Plus binoculars and bird books. I get sad when people don't look after the games though.

Christmasiscominghohoho · 25/08/2022 21:29

Never used the books or the games.
