Do you use the books/games in a holiday let?

Just wondering! I own a holiday property with a book case in the hall. It’s a small space, I’d like to replace the bookcase with a console table.

DH says people would miss the books.

what do you think?

We love it if there are books/games/toys for the children in a holiday let!
We had a particularly wet year and the house we were in had a plastic skittles set and a long corridor... that was a very happy discovery!

I enjoy looking through the bookshelves with adult books, but would probably read my own instead out of fear of. It finish in g it before we left.

Yes we do, we also have them available in our holiday let, we have however removed the books as some guests were stealing them.

Brave indeed admitting to owning a holiday let, plenty in here wanting to stay in self catering though.

often smile at the idea that everyone should stay in a tent/caravan/hotel!

Oh I see I have no idea what a console table is. Not posh enough probably! 😆

I love finding random books and games in a holiday house, it makes it so much more homely and interesting.
I especially like kids books as we will definitely have time to read a few of them

Beldam · 25/08/2022 22:14

console tables are nice but a bookcase and games wins.

I’m one of those who will take a book and leave a replacement - never thought this was an issue ( except in the Swiss ski chalet we stayed in where the books and DVD’s were given numbered labels and arranged in ascending order )

I am another voter for books and games. I love finding games I have not played, or have not played for years. I really love books too. I have a Kindle, but love browsing through books I may not have picked myself and finding gems. I particularly love when you can take an unfinished book and replace it. I usually just leave any books I brought and take the one I am reading. Don't get rid of the books!

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 25/08/2022 22:16

Keep the books, games etc. I found them great for evenings and rainy days in the holiday lets I've been to.

The power of Mumsnet wins again .

Somewhere there is a bookcase full of books and games where I could have had a console 😂

Team Bookcase here - I love finding random books that I probably wouldn't otherwise have read (bonus points for a bit of 'fluff' that I'd be too embarrassed buy in real life!).

I also love games - Monopoly, Scrabble, Ludo, Pictionary etc.

JamesWilbyFanClub · 25/08/2022 22:27

yes- i love it when they have guidebooks or local history books but mostly when there is some fiction set locally.
Board games only if we're unlucky with the weather- but they are an absolute godsend in those circumstances

Octomore · 25/08/2022 22:28

Yes, definitely if the weather is bad. Something is needed for rainy days indoors

caringcarer · 25/08/2022 22:37

I always remember when I had my 3 small and we went on holiday to one year to Cornwall and it rained every day except one. We spent an absolute fortune paying to take them into things and driving around in the car. And we ended up buying colouring books and pencils, games and jigsaws just to try to amuse them. I leave everything I think people might like so flasks, picnic sets, lightweight baby buggy, cot, high chair, changing mat, and even a few nappies in various sizes.

thinkfast · 25/08/2022 23:42

We often use the games. Not the books in case I don't finish it.....if I finished my own book I might leave it behind for someone else though.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/08/2022 00:07

I do really like a good selection of books. There must be somewhere for a few bookshelves, surely?

Not bothered about games.

AudTheDeepMinded · 25/08/2022 21:33

I very often leave a book and take a book (only non special looking ones though, wouldn't nick a local guide book for example)

I’ve always done that too-never seen it as an issue

hels71 · 26/08/2022 09:32

Always use the books and games.
