I’ve seen lots of people recommended indorex to keep spiders away , I’ve got some and wondering where do you spray it ? Just skirting boards and door entrances ?

I really hope it works 😭

Exactly I cannot catch a spider I have a phobia that’s affecting my life severely I can’t relax in my house in spider season if I see one I shake and cry.

Thanks to the people that understand.

So instead of working on overcoming your phobia you'd kill harmless living beings?

How horribly entitled to expect the ecosystem to work around you. It confirms the human race are parasites.

RayneDance · 22/08/2022 14:04

Op I've recently used indorex as a precaution for a new pet!

We get nasty false widows here which experts are reassessing because so many people get nasty bites far worse than a bee sting.

So I'd be extremely happy if a side effect was also to kill them.
I'm happy with cellars spiders but not false widows.

I've also got Dianthus earth and put that down near holes.
I've also just this weekend got some perpermint oil and will douse that around windows.

Get help for your phobia then. You are the problem here, not the spiders.

So OP is supposed to live in fear in her own house so as not to kill a few spiders? You lot want to get off your high horses 😂

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 22/08/2022 15:19

For the spider fans - if you relocate house spiders to a garage or shed, is that okay or does it still kill them 😞

jewishmum · 22/08/2022 15:19

I had a terrible fear, till one day I was unable to leave my bedroom because a spider was above the doorway and I ended up being late for work.

After that I was so embarrassed and frustrated with my fear that I made it my mission to overcome arachnophobia.

I joined various social media groups for spider lovers and took an interest.

I have now overcome my fear and am able to calmly pick up Giant House Spiders (the great big hairy ones).

SweetPetrichor · 22/08/2022 15:24

If you have to kill something cause you don’t like it, then I think you have a you-problem to overcome. They are utterly harmless and a valued part of the ecosystem. There are ways to deal with phobias. I did. Many many people have.

They will be fine in the shed or garage. I do the same, not out of fear but simply because I have a few big females living in the shed and that’s what the males are out looking for! I think of it as helping him along on his mission!

No, the suggestions are she sort her phobia and use non toxic/no kill methods to remove the spiders. She's coming across as unpleasant, and you are being obtuse.

You don’t like something, so that makes it OK to kill it?

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 22/08/2022 15:30

Thank you SweetPetrichor

i was scared for a minute there. All those years thinking I was being good to them. Glad I have been. I used to be really scared but only relocate the big running ones now. Woke up to one on my pillow then did a Benny Hill round the bedroom with a pint glass. And lost it. Relocated them ever since.

AuntMasha · 22/08/2022 15:31

I do understand arachnophobia as I used to have it, but for some reason it’s subsided as I’ve got older. Currently got an enormous fellow in my office room at home. He’s so big you can hear his footsteps as he scuttles about. It’s an uneasy peace, but we both manage to coexist in relative harmony. I rule out any physical contact though.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 22/08/2022 15:32

I don’t like a few of my colleagues. <weighs up killing them or relocating them>

Joking. Obvs.

But 'sorting' a phobia isn't that easy nor is there a wealth of services to help. Even if there is available help, things won't change overnight.

People often try to work it out for themselves with varying degrees of sucess.

I've worked my way up to a medium spider over years but I can't deal with the really big ones. If my dh isn't home, my ds kills them.

whatamigoing2do · 22/08/2022 13:43

I'm not a big fan but have found saying 'oh hello mate' when one appears it takes my fear away and anything that eats flies is welcome in my home

My late DM used to talk to the spiders like that when I was a child. It wasn't until I was older she told me she was absolutely terrified of them. Thank God she she didn't kill them and pass on her phobia to me.

WitchBaby · 22/08/2022 16:17

Hbhhhh193948484848 · 22/08/2022 13:44

Honestly there’s worse things going on in the world than someone killing a few spiders. I couldn’t give two shits if you like it or not.

Do you not understand that if everyone did this then there wouldn't be a world? They play a vital part in our ecosystem, we cannot just kill the things we don't like. Fgs why are people still not getting this?

Seriously, get help for your phobia, it's not ok to keep killing things.

Eyesopenwideawake · 22/08/2022 16:24

Arachnophobia (and most other phobias) can quickly and easily cured by a couple of hypnosis sessions. The phobia is 'inherited' at a young age due to a parent or care giver showing a fear response to spiders (or mice or whatever) and, because we are genetically programmed to copy the behaviour of the people we rely on for survival, we adopt the same reaction.

Because the fear is deep seated in the subconscious mind we can't override it with the rational, logical part of the brain telling us that spiders are harmless. Hypnosis can connect directly with the original fear and, in short, tell it to simply stop because it's no longer needed.

inkworks273 · 22/08/2022 16:32

There's a difference between killing bugs, insects, spiders outside and killing them inside your own home.

Your home is exactly that, yours! If you don't want spiders crawling all over the walls then I don't think you should be shamed for it.

Oioicaptain · 22/08/2022 16:40

Skip the indorex OP and head straight for the Raid! You can spray it around in advance (but open the windows briefly afterwards). You can spray them from a distance of several metres if you find one. It's the Novichok of the spider world. Once you spray them it doesn't matter if they try to scuttle off somewhere. They will be dead within a couple of minutes.

Oioicaptain · 22/08/2022 16:49

As for the - the world will die if the OP kills a spider within her own home.... I assume that the same people also leave flies and wasps in peace and wouldn't have a wasp nest removed and are also are generally very environmentally conscious! Obviously they have assumed that the OP doesn't give a stuff about the world, can afford hypnosis and expensive therapy and hasn't previously tried it.

jewishmum · 22/08/2022 16:51

You know that spiders are animals right? If you changed your mindset you see how disgusting some of these comments are.

I don't want stray cats in my home, doesn't mean it's ok or humane to pour acid on them.

Oioicaptain · 22/08/2022 16:54

I hope that there's also a 'leave the fleas' alone campaign, so as not to be discriminatory! And perhaps a thread on how to gently care for nits and allow they to make a home in your hair.

inkworks273 · 22/08/2022 16:56

I don't like killing spiders and always ask dh to catch them and put them outside but apparently that kills them anyway so what should I do instead?

Leaving them alone is not an option as I wouldn't feel comfortable in my own home.
