Indorex on spiders

I’ve seen lots of people recommended indorex to keep spiders away , I’ve got some and wondering where do you spray it ? Just skirting boards and door entrances ?

I really hope it works 😭

@DancingBeanstalk

Just make sure you air the house out and stay outside for an hour after spraying so it dries ,that’s what it says on the bottle x

I honestly don’t care about these comments. I will be killing them I don’t want them in my house. I also think think some of you are being very dramatic.

There was another thread about spiders recently when everyone was saying how scared they were and to use Indorex. No-one mentioned the morality of it.

Arachnophobia can be absolutely crippling.

I also think one person posts a response on MN and everyone else piles on in agreement - it's a sort of gang mentality on MN sometimes. If the first poster had responded saying they had terrible arachnophobia and recommended Indorex then I reckon the rest of the posts would have been in a similar vein.

Do what you need to do OP.

I remember the days when you used to drive down the motorway and the windscreen would literally be covered in dead insects - now barely anything. Unfortunately agriculture is almost entirely to blame and the decline has been huge, the odd person killing a few spiders in their house isn't going to have much impact because most insects don't live in houses and those that do aren't going to be any use as a food source to other animals.

Stop concreting over gardens for parking and stop having short cut lawns with no diversity, plant loads of stuff to encourage insects in your garden that provide nectar from early in the year until late, much better than giving the OP a hard time over a few house spiders (not that I personally would use nasty insecticides in my house).

AlwaysLatte · 22/08/2022 10:58

Isn't that for killing? How about using zero spider repellent? My mum uses it around door and window frames and doesn't get spiders.

If everyone thought like you the ecosystem would be more fucked than it already is.

But that's ok. Your wants are more important than the collective good.

Humans really are the shitstain on this planet.

It's people like you that make me really really dislike humans.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 22/08/2022 11:31

Unfortunately the attitude of 'I'm only killing a few, it won't make them extinct or make much difference' is EXACTLY what caused the extinction of the Dodo, the Quagga, the Passenger Pigeon and many other species which have gone for good, all in relatively recent times - when will people learn that many times a 'few' equals 'many' or 'all'.

And it's not just the killing of a few individual specimens, more importantly it is the residual affect of all the toxins forever in the environment. I just despair of humans and their desire to destroy the planet - the only living thing which does. Most species, including spiders, were here long before we were, minding their own business, causing no harm and along come humans with their arrogance, entitlement and inflated sense of majestic superiority to destroy them, simply because they don't 'like' them or cannot live harmoniously with them.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 22/08/2022 11:52

Well this is depressing.

Don't you get it OP? That lots and lots of one-person acts of destruction all add up to one great big, possibly irreversible result?

And there are further knock on effects from that result too... killing off lots of spiders, e.g., will have untold effects on the numbers and behaviours of both their predators and prey and could ultimately lead to problems with food crops etc.

This "my little individual action won't make much difference" attitude is so ignorant, selfish and dangerous.

I also think that most people only care about actions that will have a tangible effect on their own lives, and make a difference in their own lifetimes. Once they're dead it doesn't matter: future generations can do one.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 22/08/2022 12:15

Well said @TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 22/08/2022 12:41

Don't come to my house anytime soon then. I have about 8 spiders in my bathroom and at 2-3 in the bedroom one of which is laid on the skirting board at the back of my bedside table. You'll soon be wittering when there's no spiders left and we are overrun with bugs and flies. Spiders do a great job at keeping them down.

CoffeeIsForClosers · 22/08/2022 12:43

I understand OP. Phobias are real. I can't bear the large ones, I can't relax knowing there's one, so while I will try the glass-and-card technique if it's remaining still on a flat surface, I don't mind killing if I have to. I'll sometimes drop a book on one. It's an instant death, no suffering.

I won't use the chemical sprays, though, as they would impact on my friends the cellar spiders. These are the spindly ones that hang out in corners. I made my peace with them years ago and now I like to see one or two in every room, as they can prey on house spiders - I've seen them do it. They are an eco-friendly method of spider control in the home. I genuinely don't mind them at all. I always let them move out of the way if I'm hoovering or cleaning.

godmum56 · 22/08/2022 12:43

indorex doesn't keep spiders away, it kills them. If you want to kill them then say so.

ellieboolou · 22/08/2022 12:48

I hate spiders with a passion it even freaks me out when I type the word and the little emoji comes up of one. But please do not use that. Peppermint oil spray is good.

I'm learning to o

ellieboolou · 22/08/2022 12:50

Posted too soon! I'm learning to live with the spindly type ones too, they do indeed hunt other spiders and stay out of my way

Hedgesfullofbirds · 22/08/2022 12:59

Same @MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat! And a seven legged one called 'Septimus' which lives in the top corner of my kitchen window and provides hours of entertainment whilst I am washing up or preparing food!

It's amazing how interesting and entertaining they can be.
While camping in France some years ago a huge spider made a web under the "eaves" of our tent, in front of the plastic window. She caught two flies and wasp in it.
It started raining heavily, and 'Spin' dashed out and started dismantling her web and eating the things she'd caught quickly. Was so funny - like me dashing out to take my washing in in the rain.
I'd never seen anything like it.

I hate human beings. The sooner we become extinct the bloody better 🤬

It’s safe for pets and children. Oh sorry but I don’t really care what you think about killing spiders I hate them and a do kill them im not going to make them instinct am I. I’ve seen lots of people on here saying indorex works so il try it I was just looking for advice of where to spray it.

Ha ha you really think chemicals that kill insects on impact is going to be safe for children to be breathing in. Ahhh lovely, nothing like being at one with nature, is there?

Justleaveitblankthen · 22/08/2022 13:39

Don't kill spiders! Just don't. They are extremely good at catching flies and all types of other destructive insects around the home.
Seriously, if you really must remove them, any old margarine tub with a piece of card on top will do the trick.
Please don't kill them!

Soapboxqueen · 22/08/2022 13:40

OP I'm with you. I have arachnophobia and by that I don't mean 'I just don't like them'. True phobias are utterly crippling and exhausting.

I've bought indorex but never used it because I'm worried about the impact on my pets and kids.

Peppermint oil I've used but I'm not sure if it works. I have one of those electronic repelling plug ins, again not sure if works but it makes me feel better.

I've spent years trying to not be so bothered by the tiny ones and am working myself up.

Also, if you can, encouraging the spindly ones as they eat the others.

The spider course at London zoo is supposed to be good but it gets booked up quickly and other options are few and far between.

whatamigoing2do · 22/08/2022 13:43

I'm not a big fan but have found saying 'oh hello mate' when one appears it takes my fear away and anything that eats flies is welcome in my home

Trapping and removing them is only an option if you can get that close in the first place.

Hbhhhh193948484848 · 22/08/2022 13:44

Honestly there’s worse things going on in the world than someone killing a few spiders. I couldn’t give two shits if you like it or not.
