What food are you most looking forward to eating in Autumn?

Just that really! Looking to salivate over Autumnal deliciousness (or anything in general you are looking forward to, now Autumn is not far from peeking it’s head out!)

❌ autumn bashers not allowed 😁 and yes I know energy prices are the shit bit.

English apples, especially Cox's Orange Pippins.
Nearer Christmas, satsumas.
Brussels Sprouts, after the first frost.
Decent floury, largeish old potatoes (assuming the heatwave hasn't wiped out the crop).
And turning to things I love making, but which we won't eat until Christmas:
Christmas pudding
Christmas cake (in our case, rum cake)
Mincemeat for home-made mince pies

I make a mean steak & ale pie with suet crust pastry. Looking forward to the first one of those. Apple and blackberry crumble might be on the menu soon as well, the blackberry bushes round our way are absolutely dripping with fruit and hardly anyone seems to pick them apart from me & DH. We have loads of blackberries in our freezer already.

Pasithean · 21/08/2022 10:30

Toffee apples. Making first pear and parsnip soup today.

glamourousindierockandroll · 21/08/2022 10:34

Fish pie is my main one that I've missed.

Leek and cauliflower soup

Roast potatoes

Although I never got round to making paella this year so I've still got a couple of weeks to tick that off the list!

dudsville · 21/08/2022 10:34

I've been really wanting to make a lasagne, mine's veggie without the cheese sauce just some cheese, so it's not actually unhealthy but just quite hot! And reading this thread I am reminded of wonderful things like crumbles - I still have some of last year's apple in the freezer ready to go!

@Silvernecklace , we tend to have quiche and salads in the summer months!

ChilliPB · 21/08/2022 10:41

Silvernecklace · 21/08/2022 10:09

I must be very ignorant, I didn't realise that people change their diet in different seasons. Other than pumpkin at Hallowe'en ( which I have never eaten) and Christmas dinner I assumed people eat the same all year round. Oh yes and strawberries in the summer coz the ones in winter are rubbish.

@Silvernecklace different fruit and veg in different seasons. I guess it depends what you eat/where you shop to an extent but I get fresh food from local sources where possible so starting to see eg squash and so on come in. It also depends on the weather - I definitely don’t fancy as much hot/stodgy food in the summer as I do in the winter!

Pork shoulder roasted on a bed of apples, sage and butternut squash, with a sprinkling of mace. That's my ultimate autumn meal. Preferably followed by apple, pear and brandy crumble and whipped cream.

Beef carbonnade. Steak and kidney pudding. Any sort of stew with dumplings. Beef and mushroom stroganoff. Toad in the hole (with lashings of onion gravy or there's just no point).

See now I think you've started something naughty lol

Sorry not sorry just don't add ice. Choc milkshake (I use sains) and Baileys - adjust ratio to suit but do not start with more baileys than milk unless you can spend this evening asleep/burbling on the sofa 'tis very, erm, palatable. 🥴😁

This is Chat not AIBU.

It was in AIBU to begin with - it's been moved.

Just explaining how the earlier comment arose Confused

Personally, couldn't care less what topic it's in.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/08/2022 16:38

I think Hannah was probably reacting to the person who was so exercised about the absence of an AIBU in the OP that she got the thread moved to Chat. That must keep her busy.

HamHand · 21/08/2022 16:40

Crumble! Our rhubarb plants have given us an absolute glut this year and I have so much of it frozen. I never fancy it when it actually grows, it’s very much an autumn food for me. Same with all the blackberries the dc have managed to pilfer from the park.

Northernsouloldies · 21/08/2022 17:13

Homemade scotch broth n decent loaf, good comfort meal on a cold day.

AclowncalledAlice · 21/08/2022 17:39

Well as my dear old dad used to say, every day's a school day. I didn't think seasonal menus were a thing outside of restaurants/cafes.

Inextremis · 21/08/2022 17:41

Sprouts. Squashes and pumpkins. Bonfire toffee. Ox cheek and oxtail stews. Spicy tomato soup with cheese-crusted bread. Venison and pheasant. Dumplings. Roasted beetroot.
