What food are you most looking forward to eating in Autumn?

Just that really! Looking to salivate over Autumnal deliciousness (or anything in general you are looking forward to, now Autumn is not far from peeking it’s head out!)

❌ autumn bashers not allowed 😁 and yes I know energy prices are the shit bit.

Soups and stews with warm buttered bread and apple & blackberry crumble.

canihaveacoffeeplease · 20/08/2022 23:49

It's winter here, can I do spring please?

I am SO looking forward to asparagus! Light green veggies, i'm done with squash and root veggies and kale! Also fruit that isn't citrus, we've had it coming out our ears for months and I just want fresh, soft fruit that isn't preserved, blerg!

Only 10 days of winter left, not that I'm counting or anything...

IvebeenUpAllNightNoSleep · 21/08/2022 08:33

I know it’s not exactly the question asked..
but Fireworks/Bonfire night !

ApplePippa · 21/08/2022 08:44

All the apple-y things!

Apple pie/crumble
Apple cake
Roast pork with apple sauce
Good old fashioned baked apples!

Thesearmsofmine · 21/08/2022 08:46

Soup, road in the hole, sausage casserole, cake with custard

Ahhbiscuits · 21/08/2022 09:12

Oo yes to roast pork and apple sauce! I’m looking forward to when the oven being turned on makes the house warmer and cosy as opposed to making me sweat buckets and avoid using!

plus can’t wait to throw the sun cream to the back of the cupboard and not look at for a long while!

Stews and casseroles, lasagnas, cottage pies and roast dinners. All stick to your ribs hearty goodness! In fact Im having a roast dinner today. I can’t wait any longer it’s been months!! 😋

ChagSameachDoreen · 21/08/2022 09:16

We're Jewish and there's a dish called cholent which is veg and beans and pulses done overnight in a slow cooker with a really tasty mix of herbs. I don't tend to make it in spring and summer, so I'm really looking forward to the first cholent of the autumn!

Tal12 · 21/08/2022 09:19

Baked apple cooked with cinnamon, sultanas and honey, served with mascarpone, amazing! Best after a roast!

toad in the hole with spring greens and gravy

Amdone123 · 21/08/2022 09:22

@ChagSameachDoreen , oohh, that sounds lovely. I'll Google the recipe as not only does it sound easy, it also sounds really healthy and nutritious.
I'm a Summer babe, but this thread is converting me.

RampantIvy · 21/08/2022 09:29

As someone who really enjoys food I don't really let the season's dictate what I eat unless it is ridiculously hot. So, if I want a Thai curry or a roast, for example, I would make it regardless of the weather.

I would eat more vegetables in season though. There is a farm near us with a farm shop, and they grow romanesco which I love, and is only available around about this time of year.

I'm not a fan of casseroles really, and having acquired a slow cooker last year, it is languishing in the cupboard unused for quite some time.

BuffaloCauliflower · 21/08/2022 09:41

Ah thank you for reminding me autumn is coming! Definitely yes to the roasts and the crumbles and the soups. I’m so done with summer and this heat! Autumn is my fave.

@RampantIvy I’d usually say the same as you, but it’s just been so hot and muggy this summer I haven’t been able to eat anything like that. I’ve been on picky bits and pasta for months now!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/08/2022 09:42

Thick multi-veg, main meal soups, with pearl barley/red lentils etc. Grated cheese added.
Also very cheap to make - always a bonus - if you use a lot of cut-and-come-again root veg, like swede, celeriac and turnips, which keep for ages in the fridge. I add any green veg just for the last few minutes.

Tonysopranosghost · 21/08/2022 09:42

Slow cooker goulash

Is not specifically an autumn food i guess but definitely not a hot weather one

maddiemookins16mum · 21/08/2022 09:53

Mince pies.

Me too, first proper roast since about April here today.

What is your AIBU OP?

Pedants corner is elsewhere...Hmm

OP I need a Roast. Or 3. Grin
I'm looking forward to a Cajun chicken and Med veg lasagne - it takes ages to cook, but it's too warm to have the oven on for that long yet.
That and a Sausage casserole served in a big Yorky Pud.
😋

Who cares.

Silvernecklace · 21/08/2022 10:09

I must be very ignorant, I didn't realise that people change their diet in different seasons. Other than pumpkin at Hallowe'en ( which I have never eaten) and Christmas dinner I assumed people eat the same all year round. Oh yes and strawberries in the summer coz the ones in winter are rubbish.

IssaBaby · 21/08/2022 10:10

Hot chocolate with amaretto/baileys in it.
Or just amaretto and baileys on their own. Can't seem to stomach them in warmer months.
Red wine with EVERYTHING.
Sausage casserole
Sausage and mash too.
Chilli
Legs of lamb for Sunday roast.
I will have those things sporadically through the year but they are just SO MUCH BETTER in autumn.
Also, lots and lots of slow cooking.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 21/08/2022 10:16

@HannahSternDefoe And so is chat.

alfagirl73 · 21/08/2022 10:16

I'm another one looking forward to getting my soup maker on the go. I do a lovely spicy tomato and lentil soup that is soooo warming & yummy. Things being as they are this winter, I'm planning ahead to lots of good hearty slow cooker recipes that I can batch cook and freeze, home baked pies etc. I'm going to have a go at making sweet potato pie this year as well.

newtb · 21/08/2022 10:18

Muscat grapes

jay55 · 21/08/2022 10:23

Baked apples.

Lasagne. I'm looking forward to it being cool enough I can have the oven on for a while without it getting to over 30 inside.
