Period pants: modibodi v cheaper brands?

DC2 has just started her period. When her older sister started a few years ago I bought her some modibodi period underwear. They have been fine, but were £££. I can see that M&S, sainsburys and some others are selling cheaper alternatives. Has anyone tried them and do they do what they need to?

I'd be interested in this too. DD started yesterday! We went and got her a couple of pairs of "Love Luna" period pants that s local lingerie shop has, but she'll need some more and we are going to a big shopping centre tonight for school shoes.

chipsandpeas · 20/08/2022 12:51

not used modibodi but i have the primark ones and they seem fine to me, no leaks and are comfortable on

Fantina · 20/08/2022 12:53

The ModiBodi ones seem better quality but we got some cheaper M&S ones too and they work well as well. I don’t know how longlasting either of them are.

Thethingswedoforlove · 20/08/2022 12:57

We’ve never ever had any kind of leak from modibodi and we have had them for a couple of years now. Dd started her periods age 13 is now 15 and has never used a pad. Same pants still bejng used. She seems to be very heavy but the 24 hr ones are amazing

SlurpSlooChortle · 20/08/2022 13:02

I've never used these - what are they?

TheMousePipes · 20/08/2022 13:06

I’ve just bought some wuka period pants for dd. They have some at 30% off because they’ve got the wrong size written inside them so we got those!

SardineJam · 20/08/2022 13:08

Mumsnet and Uniqlo partnered a little while ago on some product testing with theirs. I use Modibodi but when I need to replace them I will be trying the Uniqlo ones. The 24 hour Modibodi ones arent effective for me on my 2nd and 3rd day of period, more like 3hrs

Overinvolvedmum · 20/08/2022 13:08

Can I ask how do you wash them? It’s the washing that’s putting me off trying them

Tigerstigers · 20/08/2022 13:09

I've got the Primark ones and they're great! Admittedly I haven't tried the more expensive ones, so nothing to compare them to, but no leaks, comfortable, wash well. Absolutely love my them, and love not having to buy pads/tampons! I think they were about £13 for 3 pairs?

Just pop them in the machine with everything else.

I wouldn't do a very short or cool wash, but there are no issues if you wash them normally.

I only buy black ones so don't worry about staining.

Overinvolvedmum · 20/08/2022 13:12

@Violettaa thank you. So you don’t have to rinse or soak them first?

megletthesecond · 20/08/2022 13:14

DD is on her second period but modibodi seem to be better for a school day and primark fine for home and overnight.

Although I understand that primark have a supply issue with period pants at the moment. I'm hoping they're back in stock soon as I want to stock up.

unclehairysgirlfriend · 20/08/2022 13:14

The Primark ones are brilliant. My 11 year old loves them - nice colours and good shape for younger girls and they've not stained at all. I just put them in there own wash without fabric softener and then dry on the clothes horse. We have some M&S ones too and they are fine but a bit like granny pants. I notice they have expanded their range since we got them though so maybe worth a look

ZombieKettle · 20/08/2022 13:18

Modibodi teen range is very good but so expensive. some holes developed in the crotch area (though may be due to washing machine). I've just stared trialling the M&S period pants bikini style with my daughter and they seem good so far. Wash them in the sink to get most of the blood out before putting in the washing machine.

pinkfondu · 20/08/2022 13:24

I've only used primark and live tgem

Snowdropsarelovely · 20/08/2022 14:05

My teenager has quite heavy periods and tried quite a few different brands – she definitely finds modibody the best.

They are the most expensive but two years on they are still as absorbent as when they were new so we think they are worth it. She found the Sainsbury's ones to be rubbish, Primark not too bad but but only any good for her towards the very end of her period, or as a back up with tampons.

Snowdropsarelovely · 20/08/2022 14:07

Also, we didn't bother with the teen ones – my daughter just wears the overnight heavy flow adult ones in the day for school.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 20/08/2022 14:08

brill, thanks all.
I think I might order some M&S ones and move up to modibodi if we have to.

I store mine in a ziplock bag until I have a few (including reusable pads which I have too).

Then into the machine for the 15 min super quick cold wash cycle, no detergent, just to rinse them. Then I add the rest of the clothes in and run a normal wash.

None in the massive Primark at Meadowhall, Sheffield this evening.

mondaytosunday · 20/08/2022 22:11

After my daughter having a leak while on a walking tour last weekend, I've been considering these (moribodi or similar). She does wear a pad and those leakproof pants (that are meant to be worn with a pad) as I just can't get my head around the pants alone. Don't you have to change them throughout the day?

Thethingswedoforlove · 21/08/2022 07:00

My dds change them roughly every 4 hours on heavy days. But no change overnight. The 24 hr pants hold a lot.

gunnersgold · 21/08/2022 07:19

I use primark ones , they are all the same as far as I can see 🤷‍♀️

BerryPieandCustard · 21/08/2022 07:54

I stumbled across some on the Victoria Secret website, nice colours and patterns and well priced. I think they were about £12/£14 per pair and they had a multi buy offer. I was lucky enough to find some in DDs size in the sale section for £5 a pair so got 3 knickers and 2 pairs of short style suited to a heavier flow (she uses these over night). They have been great, no leaks and will definitely be looking out for a sale to get the next size up to save for when she grows.

she also has Primark ones which have been ok, she had one leakage overnight with them. She prefers the feel of the Victoria Secret ones.

SupDuck · 21/08/2022 08:38

Primark are more likely to leak IME.
Wuka or modibodi are great. I buy when there is an offer on.
