Period pants: modibodi v cheaper brands?

DC2 has just started her period. When her older sister started a few years ago I bought her some modibodi period underwear. They have been fine, but were £££. I can see that M&S, sainsburys and some others are selling cheaper alternatives. Has anyone tried them and do they do what they need to?

I'm interested in these for myself because i.seem to be in peri.menapause flooding?

Could I wear them in addition to pads?
To stop leaking?

SmallElephants · 26/08/2022 09:50

Are there any brands which have cotton for the fabric (not including the padded bit obviously)
I have Luna pair and one from argos (I know!) and they both have horrible synthetic stuff where they could just have cotton.

I stumbled across some on the Victoria Secret website, nice colours and patterns and well priced. I think they were about £12/£14 per pair and they had a multi buy offer. I was lucky enough to find some in DDs size in the sale section for £5 a pair so got 3 knickers and 2 pairs of short style suited to a heavier flow (she uses these over night). They have been great, no leaks and will definitely be looking out for a sale to get the next size up to save for when she grows.

she also has Primark ones which have been ok, she had one leakage overnight with them. She prefers the feel of the Victoria Secret ones.

Next carries the Victoria secrets ones online too & they're often on sale.

I bought the M&S ones to try first before I bought some for my DD. I bought the heavier flow ones, exercised in them and wore them all day on my heaviest day... No leaks. Changed them before bed and wore a fresh pair all night. No leaks. Same again next day. Washed them in my usual dark wash, no probs at all.

@dgirluk before I found some that lasted me all day, I changed to a new pair of pants at home, but when out I just put in a tampon at the point the pants started to feel full. Now I have some that can last me for the whole daytime, I don't change them. They don't smell the way disposable pads do, I think because the blood is adsorbed inside in the pad rather sitting on the surface. I also find that with the right pants, they don't feel damp as they absorb it quickly enough and hold the moisture away from the skin.

Can I ask how do you wash them? It’s the washing that’s putting me off trying them

Dd15 rinses them in the utility room sink and then they go in with a normal wash and then she has a clipper circular thing for socks and underwear right above the radiator and floor in the bathroom - so if it drips it is fine.

modibodi all the way here. Recommended by the friend. I brought her some before her periods started when she was 14. I waited until they had an offer and brought the age 14-16 ones. She started shortly after she’s been using them a year and they are fab. She has some heavy days where she puts a fresh pair on for school and then changes when she gets home but no need to leave a lesson to change etc
I brought her 7 and she is very happy with those she has never run short. A year on and they are still going strong and as good as new. No leaks at night or during the day
highly recommended

@Violettaa thank you. So you don’t have to rinse or soak them first?

Mine does rinse as she might be changing without me putting a wash on eg home from school A 15 minute wash is fine btw. Dd prefers rinsing and then she has a waterproof bag and collects them and then we add to the main wash - we wash at least every other day here for clothes. We’ve found the rinsing in cold water - what our friend advised us to do - honestly a year on of use they are as good as new.
no pads needed no leaks and no issues.

@reenon
What sizes from m and s do you think for a slim 15 year old?

For people who use these and are out all day at work and need to change them, are you getting undressed in a work toilet to change, and then - what do you do with the dirty ones? In a bag in your handbag all day ??

I want to experiment but unsure how to deal with that !

Also - if you don't need to change them (because you're not a heavy enough flow), do you change them for freshness during the day ?

No, we wear them all day. Not had leaks.

Ahh that all makes sense thank you :)

Dorina overnight ones are brilliant for a heavy flow. I use them during the day and never leaked.
I don't think I'd feel confident using cheaper brands.

prinnycessa · 01/09/2022 19:56

Just a quick qu on this - when you buy the modibodi bikini, does the matching top come with it? Or do you just have to mix and match?

reluctantbrit · 01/09/2022 20:48

DD and I have Modibodis, they are great to last a full school day and no leaks overnight.

I have very heavy periods for 3 days and the 24hr one is ok for nights or 1/2 day but I am sure they are more reliable for a more regular period. But they still are 1000% better than tampons or pads.

I tried the light flow M&S and find them ok for spotting but for nothing more. I also had the seam coming apart after the first wash and I had some lace ones (didn't see them on the website anymore) which broke after a couple of washes. So a bit of a disappointment.
