If you were going to University this year, what course would you study?

Just reading the A'Levels/University threads on Facebook - out of interest for DC and I've just spotted my ideal degree - Human evolution and behaviour.

This is what I wanted to do nearly 40 years ago when I went but it didn't exist then so I did Psychology.

So, what would be your idea subject to study now? And if you went to Uni, how different is it to the course you actually studied?

Good question! Maths with Linguistics for a degree, with modules in Politics and Film Music.

Wouldloveanother · 19/08/2022 19:19

Astronomy 🪐

titchy · 19/08/2022 19:19

Did some Linguistics in my undergrad which was otherwise largely quite dull and irrelevant to my career. Wish I'd known about politics and policy when I was younger.

Civil and environmental engineering
I'd happily do my career again, but this would be a less circuitous route.

I did this!

Noshowlomo · 19/08/2022 19:23

Palaeontology. I was so close to doing it as well 😩

MintChocTea · 19/08/2022 19:23

I have a degree and masters degree in a science subject but I’d love to go back and study MFL. French and Spanish, of which I have a good level, but I’d love to improve.

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 19/08/2022 19:24

Art restoration

Derrymum123 · 19/08/2022 19:26

Dentistry or Welsh.

UnderstandingItAll · 19/08/2022 19:26

English or History.

Completely different to what I actually studied -Dentistry. I don't have any Humanities A'Levels, all Science & Maths, so would have to do 6th form again too 😃

Lily073 · 19/08/2022 19:27

Genetics

Farmageddon · 19/08/2022 19:30

I studied Psychology back in the day, but these days i'd love to study History with a language, maybe Spanish.

Except without the thesis, or the big long essays.

TheFallenMadonna · 19/08/2022 19:30

History or Maths.

TheFallenMadonna · 19/08/2022 19:31

I did Biochemistry, and then Psychology later as a grown up.

jclm · 19/08/2022 19:32

Languages - maybe Arabic or Russian!

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/08/2022 19:34

Computer science for the money 😁

MrsU2022 · 19/08/2022 19:35

Speech and Language Therapy...

Qualified 6 years ago...

Knew I wanted to do it from age 15...

Still would be my career of choice if I had to choose again!

TheIoWfairy · 19/08/2022 19:35

@BlueBloodedBlue let's do it together then! I'd be the oldest fresher in town - not quite Tudor, but closer than most, I expect! Grin

GrandSlamFinalee · 19/08/2022 19:36

Psychology - would love to go into sports psychology. If not possible, then history. Couldn’t choose one era though.

I did an artistic degree (practical) and it becomes your whole job and life to the point that you can’t dedicate too much time to other passions, or study something part time / take a year out…

MojoJojo71 · 19/08/2022 19:38

Forensic anthropology. I’ve recently read Prof Sue Black’s books and they are fascinating, she’s had an incredible career

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/08/2022 19:40

@dmask Newcastle?

Norugratsatall · 19/08/2022 19:40

Probably data science for the career opportunities it offers (I did music as a mature student).

MojoJojo71 · 19/08/2022 19:40

@Fluffycloudland77 you’re not wrong there, my DS is a maths and comp sci graduate and at 25 earns more than me already!

Dalaidramailama · 19/08/2022 19:42

Just completed a health and social care degree via the OU. Got a first.

lljkk · 19/08/2022 19:43

maybe chemistry. I would have been a great Lab Rat.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 19/08/2022 19:43
