Where should the sieve live?

Can you settle a disagreement in the Weeds household please? We have a deep cupboard in the kitchen where we store most of our kitchenware crap paraphernalia.

Person 1 - the (metal) sieve lives with the metal mixing bowls on the bottom shelf.

Person 2 - the sieve lives on the shelf above the mixing bowls, with the frying pans, adjacent to the saucepans.

For context, the colander lives on the next shelf up, with the second sieve. I fully accept this is the most logical place to keep the first choice sieve, but it’s really high up and harder to access.

We know how to make the most of a day off in this house! It’s wild!

Big plastic mesh sieve and its little brother live in a decorative utensil pitcher on the counter left of the hob along with wooden spoons, the bread knife and a silicone whisk. The smallest sieve - used for icing sugar and cocoa - is in a small drawer with spatulas, a Danish whisk, a common or garden metal whisk, measuring cup and spoon sets, the beaters for the hand mixer, and a packet of cinnamon chewing gum.

The many baking trays and cake pans, bread pans, tart pans, and cast iron griddle are in a cupboard.

The grater lives in a drawer with sharp knives, kitchen scissors, serving spoons, plastic cooking utensils, knife sharpening steel thingy, rubber bands, twist ties, and steak knives. Of late, I've noticed a certain amount of interloping in that drawer and have removed sellotape, someone's hair scrunchie, and a screwdriver.

Pots and pans are all on metal shelves along with mixing bowls, gadgets like an instant pot and bread machine, and two baskets of Tupperware and lids. The hand mixer is in a basket on the shelves too, along with the iron and a can of spray on light starch.

Terf peeler (and chopping knives) lives in the space next to the cutlery.

mathanxiety · 18/08/2022 18:28

The veg peeler is in the same drawer as the grater. Also the meat thermometer.

Seville

mathanxiety · 18/08/2022 18:29

The colander lives with the pots and pans on the metal shelves.

TheDogsMother · 18/08/2022 18:32

Ours is in a pan drawer, sitting in the colander, beside the pots and pans. It's used far more for draining veg than sieving flour. That's my logic anyway.

Oh shit, I'd better move mine apart?

FWIW I have a (giant) stack
From the bottom up,
Lid for massive bowl
Massive bowl
Three smaller bowls
Colander
Metal sieve
Plastic sieve
3 sets of measuring spoons.

In this house the argument is where does the veg peeler go?
I say in the cutlery drawer, outside the cutlery holder
Man says in with all the knives, wooden spoons and spatulas.

Veg peeler and jar spoon go in the cutlery drawer because they are black and the cutlery drawer has a lighter liner than the utensils drawer, and I kept losing them.

Mine lives in a cupboard above the sink with the colander for easy access when straining stuff over the sink. I get that we use it for baking too, but it made more sense to keep stuff near where we use it most and I seem to use it most for straining small quantity of veg etc for kids vs the large colander. So also our plates/bowls cupboard and cutlery drawer is next to dishwasher and mugs/glasses in cupboard above so it's easy to unstack. Ovenware in cupboards over and under oven. Chopping boards and serving dishes in cupboard underneath main work surface space. The principle works well for us!

If you can hang it hang it, deep cupboards and shelves are such a PITA

That sounds like a Dr Seuss book!

TattiePants · 18/08/2022 19:03

It has its own compartment in the pan drawer.

QuestionableMouse · 18/08/2022 19:05

Mine lives in the bowl of my stand mixer.

MostlyWearingToast · 18/08/2022 19:10

The sieve should live in the strainer container.

Obviously.

isitme111 · 18/08/2022 19:17

We have a hook inside a cupboard which we hang it on :)

KohlaParasaurus · 18/08/2022 19:21

My sieve lives in the top deep drawer in the kitchen island with the casserole dishes and ceramic roasting dishes, the stick blender, the tiny blender I used for making baby food (youngest child now 24), the shortbread mould that was my great-grandmother's, and the colander. It should probably be with the mixing bowls and rolling pins, but it's happy where it is and everyone who cooks in my kitchen knows where to find it.

This is the best thread of the day. I'm thinking of coming back to it at midnight to find out what all the sieves are up to

Butteredtoast55 · 18/08/2022 19:32

Our two live companionably in a deep drawer alongside the cake tins.

Ours will be hanging happily on its new hook <proud parent face>.

Mine with mixing bowls!

Do you think this thread will make into the Daily Pail?

OldEvilOwl · 18/08/2022 20:18

It needs a hook and live somewhere within reach

QueenOfWeeds · 18/08/2022 20:23

Update: DH has just opened the cupboard and is delighted with the sieve hook!

I was still right to put it with the mixing bowls though.

It lives in a deep pan drawer, sat in the colander. Actually 'it' is about four sieves of various sizes all nested inside each other.

InMySpareTime · 18/08/2022 20:46

We have a family of sieves on hooks on the mug rail along an otherwise unusable wall of a galley kitchen:

Where should the sieve live?
Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 18/08/2022 20:47

Colander and seive live together with the mixing bowls in the cupboard next to the sink. Not under the sink, that's cleaning products and random vases.
Pans live on the other side of the kitchen under the hob.
I suppose thinking about it the sieve should live their but she's happy with her colander love and their baking friends.
