Where should the sieve live?

Can you settle a disagreement in the Weeds household please? We have a deep cupboard in the kitchen where we store most of our kitchenware crap paraphernalia.

Person 1 - the (metal) sieve lives with the metal mixing bowls on the bottom shelf.

Person 2 - the sieve lives on the shelf above the mixing bowls, with the frying pans, adjacent to the saucepans.

For context, the colander lives on the next shelf up, with the second sieve. I fully accept this is the most logical place to keep the first choice sieve, but it’s really high up and harder to access.

We know how to make the most of a day off in this house! It’s wild!

My metal sieve lives inside of my metal colander in the pan cupboard. If either of them were plastic, they would belong with the mixing bowls in a separate cupboard 😇

QueSyrahSyrah · 18/08/2022 16:45

Ours gets shoved into which shelf has space for it at the time.

Justleaveitblankthen · 18/08/2022 16:46

.. Oh and the metal cheese grater lives in a cosy threesome with them 😎

loislovesstewie · 18/08/2022 16:48

My woks, pans, sieves, utensils are all hanging up by the cooker. Readily available to be used!

Seeingadistance · 18/08/2022 16:49

Mine lives with the pots and pans.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 18/08/2022 16:49

I thought the place for a sieve was in a drawer that is not quite deep enough, so that the drawer gets caught every time you try and open it ....

That said, our most-used sieve lives upstairs under the bathroom sink, ready for duty should our disabled son have an accident in the bath 💩

moreteensthansense · 18/08/2022 16:50

My husband thinks the sieve should live in the pot of utensils next to the hob 😱😱😱

ShaunaTheSheep · 18/08/2022 16:53

Nested in the small colander, in the big colander, next to the frying pan and wok in the top inside drawer of the pan drawer.

ShaunaTheSheep · 18/08/2022 16:55

Actually there is a third medium colander in the nest I have too many colanders clearly

QueenOfWeeds · 18/08/2022 17:04

So many storage options!

Our sieve is in a stack of various sized colanders. Totally inefficient as whichever item you need they all have to be taken out. Either that or you try to pull out the one thing you need and the whole heap collapses onto the jumble of plastic boxes and the inevitable non-matching lids underneath.

We've lived like this for about 25 years 😂

Thearex · 18/08/2022 17:26

Dave Gorman needs to make a 'found poem' about this thread😂

Sieve lives with the baking stuff, bowls etc. Colanders lives with the saucepans. Grater gets bobbed in where it fits- micro-plane in the cutlery drawer.

hugoagogo · 18/08/2022 17:38

Mine lives on a hook near the cooker.

CheeseyToasts · 18/08/2022 17:38

Mixing bowl

Purely because the only thing metal sieves are used for in our house is baking

YankeeDad · 18/08/2022 17:40

the sieve goes in the location preferred by whichever person does the most cooking.

XingMing · 18/08/2022 17:46

Two metal sieves here; the one with a handle is always a nuisance. The other nests tidily with bowls, stacked above and below... ranked in size order -- unless DH puts aways, in which case it's randomised to upsset my OCD!

Chasingsquirrels · 18/08/2022 17:48

Mine is also hung - on the inside of the pan cupboard door, next to the oven. Althought thinking about it the jnder sink cupboard would be more logical - but that's full of cleaning stuff etc.

Where should the sieve live?
Tulipomania · 18/08/2022 17:49

Hung on a hook above the range cooker.

Augend23 · 18/08/2022 17:54

But if you use sieves to drain wet things they get tiny bits of gunk stuck in them and then the dishwasher glues it in. Colanders only for me, so it should be stored with the mixing bowls... however mine won't fit with the mixing bowls so lives in the colander. Such excitement for the evening!

Chasingsquirrels · 18/08/2022 17:55

I've got a colander, but I hate it and never use it. Things end up too wet. Much prefer the sieve, and don't have bits of gunk stuck in it.

CornishGem1975 · 18/08/2022 17:57

Mine lives with all the pots and pans.

LidFlipper · 18/08/2022 18:06

Ours is an adventurer. Sometimes it hangs above the stove on the rack, doe time sit can be found in the pots and pans drawer. Sometimes its in the baking cupboard mane sometimes its just hanging out on the draining board.

Brunonono · 18/08/2022 18:12

ReviewingTheSituation · 18/08/2022 15:11

Depends what you use it for!
If you use it for sieving flour/baking, then it should live with mixing bowls.
If you use it for draining peas and pasta, then it should live with the colander/pans.

Ours lives with the pans, for that reason alone.

This. In with pans in our house.

Terfydactyl · 18/08/2022 18:19

OldTinHat · 18/08/2022 15:39

Colanders absolutely DO NOT live with sieves!

Oh shit, I'd better move mine apart?

FWIW I have a (giant) stack
From the bottom up,
Lid for massive bowl
Massive bowl
Three smaller bowls
Colander
Metal sieve
Plastic sieve
3 sets of measuring spoons.

In this house the argument is where does the veg peeler go?
I say in the cutlery drawer, outside the cutlery holder
Man says in with all the knives, wooden spoons and spatulas.

LionessesRules · 18/08/2022 18:26

DH kept nicking my baking sieve and doing stuff with raw chicken. So I bought a crappy plastic one.
Metal one now lives with the pans and colander.
Crappy one lives with my baking bowls and remains undamaged.
So, you need another sieve, then it can live in both places!
