30 free hours when you already have a tax free childcare account

Rang up for advice but the person who I spoke to didn't sound confident (or maybe I confused them). Thought there must be someone on Mumsnet who knows.
We already have a tax free childcare account for DS so we get the top up with childcare fees. DS is due to get his 30 free hours from January. I have been told I can apply soon. Is it just a case of when it comes to reconfirming on the tax free childcare account I will automatically get the code or do I need to select the option for reapply?

You need to apply separately for the 30 free hours as there are different criteria which apply. If you log into your childcare account then there should be an option to apply for it. I have already got a code so it looks like this - but yours may say something slightly different.

We my DD was eligible the code appeared automatically within the tax free childcare account

Your nursery will ask you for the code amongst other info when you apply to use the free hours with them

All nurseries are different, we can only use a maximum of 6.5 free hours a day for example
