And no it's not food colouring!
Just got up, walked past a mirror and did a double take and my lips have a very definite blue tinge Confused

Cyanosis? Lack of oxygen?

PeloAddict · 10/08/2022 21:21

I feel fine, no different to usual
I mean they're not bright blue but there's a definite tinge

Have you taken any prescription medication in the last hour or so? For example, sumatriptan, used to treat migraines, can sometimes cause a blue tinge to extremities.

PeloAddict · 10/08/2022 21:25

Nothing, I am on meds but I take them before bed (codeine and thyroxine)

did you take a covid test?

lunar1 · 10/08/2022 21:28

If they haven't gone back to normal by now I would ring nhs direct for advice.

Do you have a oxygen sats monitor at home?

PeloAddict · 10/08/2022 21:28

did you take a covid test?

3 days ago as I've got a cold. Standard snotty/blocked ears type thing, was negative

Do you have a pulse oximeter at home? Pre COVID I would have assumed no but quite a few people do now. If your do, use it. If not I think I'd call 111 at the very least.

NHS website says it's an emergency:

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/08/2022 21:30

Not to scare you but have you tested for carbon monoxide.

Namenic · 10/08/2022 21:30

Ask advice from 111 maybe?

I have an alarm monitor that's set up and working so should be ok
Going to give it half an hour and see if it's improved

Monitors only work at very high levels. They are not sensitive.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/08/2022 21:36

What colour are your nails?

comfortablyfrumpy · 10/08/2022 21:37

I would call 111.

goldenbag · 10/08/2022 21:38

They don't look blue to me. Aren't they just a bit darker at the bottom?

I know several people that had blue lips with covid but LFTs didn't pick it up, was only the lab one that picked it up so odd very likely say Corona, Especially as you have symptoms. You can Google it, loads of anecdotal stories and few decent sources to back it up.

I bloody hope not. Only been to the dentist and haven't been anywhere else all week
If it's covid then I need to get anti virals...

I don't want to worry you as I was a worst case scenario, but at the height if covid wave 1, I got the delta strain and was rather unwell but was managing through, however the blue lips were a precursor so being blued and twod I to hospital which saw me having a 4 month stay, 4 weeks of which were in a come and in a ventilator. Get it checked out sooner rather than (as I did) layer when it had already taken hold of my lungs and caused permanent damage

RockinHorseShite · 10/08/2022 21:43

Could you be anaemic?

That lowers your bodies ability to carry oxygen around in your blood, so can cause low oxygen symptoms like this

Squiff70 · 10/08/2022 21:47

Definitely ring 111 but if you start having difficulty breathing, 999. Do you feel cold?

They won't give people who have Covid anti-virals as standard, by the way.

I'm CEV, 5 vaccines in and eligible so I have to ring if I get a positive LFT
Actually roasting but it's been really warm today so that's not unusual!

Looks like love oxygen. I'd imagine it will pass as looks minor. I've seen proper blue lips that you need nhs for. That is not them!

I can vo8ch fir this, despite being classed as very high risk - they had a DNR on me at one point in hospital, I've been advised that I'd not be automatically entitled to anti-virals if I contracted covid again, it would be a decision and discussion with my GP

Supersimkin2 · 10/08/2022 21:52

Pelo, don’t listen to scaremongering about carbon monoxide levels - the alarms pick up levels waaay lower than anything that could harm you.

You’re lying down and resting aren’t you <stern glare> I’ve gone blue loads with a chest infection. Give it an hour, open a window, and if you’re feeling even a bit ropy call 111.
