Things that are now forever named after something your kid said

In our household, I make a rice dish sometimes that is named after my son's reaction to it when he was about 3. Knowing he liked rice and sweetcorn, I presented him with this dish that includes both, only for his little face to crumple and him to give an anguished cry of 'MUMMY, WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO IT?!'

So of course, it has ever since been known as 'Mummy why did you do that to it?!' (I've even crossed out the name in the recipe book and written it there). DS is now 11 and actually likes MWDYDTTI these days, although he still leaves the green peppers.

Is there anything that your household now refers to by something memorable one of the kids has said?

Clocks at railway stations are called "Tick tock numbers" from the time they were the old style display with numbers clicking around.

"Snake and Kidney pie". DD1.
"X-it" The term ds coined for clicking the X in the corner of the computer screen to... exit a programme.

My parents still call one of the shops in their village the "Funny shop" from something my brother said when he was small.

We have tuddles instead of cuddles. And we once went to a pancake place and DD1 proudly announced she was going to have a Kinder Bueno crap so now we don't have pancakes or crepes, we have craps Grin

Flipper floppers- flip flops
Sunbrella- parasol
Persketti- spaghetti
Poojamas- pyjamas

Psychonabike · 09/08/2022 18:58

Blankets/throws are Eggs.

We have a lot of eggs and someone is always asking for an egg to snuggle up under.

Came from eldest, as a toddler, always wrapping himself in a blanket, pretending it was an egg and hatching out as a surprise :-)

Tittery Lockets = lottery tickets. (Said by my nephew. he's now 36).
Hostabubbles = hospitals.

Old Trailer = said by a family friend when told they were emigrating to Australia.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/08/2022 19:00

This one was coined by a young nephew, who remarked - not for the first time - that their dog was licking his balls again.
so DSis told him that the correct word was testicles.

Some days later he said, ‘What was that word again, Mum? The one that means willyballs?’ 😂

I do like a nice, cosy egg, @Psychonabike !

Courtesy of DD. Sneezes are ‘bless you’s’ in this house. E.g. Mummy I blessed you a lot today 🙂

Spider is now bister (pronounced bye-ster )
and banana is budda

thanks to our three year old lad.

he also renamed the cat Bisc which has also stuck (due to the cat biscuits)

Shelby1981 · 09/08/2022 19:03

Oh also:

Fridgerators - fridge raiders (he loves them for packed lunch)

Sumbarine - submarine

waterlego · 09/08/2022 19:04

Oh, these are so cute.

We also still use ‘jumpoline’ and refer to breakfast as ‘rarefeast’.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 09/08/2022 19:04

DS loved all vehicles when he was small and motorbikes are now referred to as BB bikes.

DD invented the word doohaber for screwdriver.

SummerLobelia · 09/08/2022 19:05

We call groceries 'cursories'.

DS1 used to say we were off to Aldi to get the cursories.

(TBF considering I hardly ever write a list it is pretty accurate)

pastypirate · 09/08/2022 19:09

Hanitiser - hand sanitiser

Pusher chair - push chair

Washer - chine - washing machine

Autard - cardigan (I can't explain that one)

TattiePants · 09/08/2022 19:09

There’s a monument on a hill near where I live that can be seen for miles around. DS couldn’t say monument so it is forever known as xxxx monmatent.

sunglassesonthetable · 09/08/2022 19:09

"He was playing GrandDad'sDaughter, Mum"
Grand Theft Auto

Remainiac · 09/08/2022 19:14

Celery is known as “waa-aah” in our family as that was the sound DS2 made when he first ate it - he didn’t like it then and doesn’t like it now 30 years later 🤣

daytimedec · 09/08/2022 19:15

Every Easter (and beyond), my kids sing 'Hot Cross Mums'. They're now 21 and 18. I can't ever remember being cross at Easter though.

All those lovely Easter egg hunts I organised; Easter eggs I bought; Easter decorations I spent ages doing with them...

Ungrateful little brats 😂

A pushchair will always be a pushtram thanks to DD

Excellent!

Not my kids but a nephew and niece:

A motorbike is a "motorbanging" and a graveyard is a "village of the dead people".

hiredandsqueak · 09/08/2022 19:16

cigarettes are fire sticks which is the name dd gave the first time she saw somebody smoking.
Soft play is play soft according to dgs so we all say that too
Nipples are nipons and penalties at penals courtesy of ds

DessicatedWithering · 09/08/2022 19:16

Ds had glue ear and so was constantly disappointed by misheard things - like when we went to the garlic farm and there were no darleks; or when the Bishop visited school instead of a spaceship.

And we have penguin squirrels in the garden - magpies.

I don't blame him tbh I think I would cry if someone made me eat it 🤣

ScampiFlies · 09/08/2022 19:25

Sunglasses are ass glasses thanks to DD.

YukoandHiro · 09/08/2022 19:25

My 1yo has just started saying "hellocopter" which I think will stick.

Also "babagus" for asparagus and "twenties" for birds eye waffles (count the holes!)
