Things that are now forever named after something your kid said

In our household, I make a rice dish sometimes that is named after my son's reaction to it when he was about 3. Knowing he liked rice and sweetcorn, I presented him with this dish that includes both, only for his little face to crumple and him to give an anguished cry of 'MUMMY, WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO IT?!'

So of course, it has ever since been known as 'Mummy why did you do that to it?!' (I've even crossed out the name in the recipe book and written it there). DS is now 11 and actually likes MWDYDTTI these days, although he still leaves the green peppers.

Is there anything that your household now refers to by something memorable one of the kids has said?

We have Radigators not radiators.
We also have square words instead of swear words. All thaks to DD!

We have square words too!!

It is a really nice dish considering it has so few ingredients.

Other food ones in our house from when kids were little:

  • Barseries
  • Cupunkah
DD had a genius one when only about 18 months old - we were on holiday and went hiking with one of those backpacks you carry toddlers in. She took one look at it and said 'Cuddle-on!' because it's like a cuddle you wear. So those carriers are always cuddle-ons.

remembered another:
my boy called the darleks, garlics.

The garlic's are always coming in Dr Who

Used to live in fear that we didn't see a fork lift truck (fucky truck) or a large clock (big cock) when now 24 year old was a toddler.

Ours called breakfast cereals by the names of the animals on the packet (some were own brands) so cornflakes = chicken, shreddies = birdie, Rice Krispies = crocodile. It sure amused nursery to be asked for a bowl of birdie and chicken! We still call them this now.

My other favourite is ostrich = sosquich

DaysLikeThis1 · 09/08/2022 18:24

We have bockit dah rather than chocolate biscuits!

SweetSakura · 09/08/2022 18:25

Popcorn will always be cockporn here 😳

DD used to ask very loudly for us to buy it when I took her to the supermarket!

Admittedly it was just a joke between me and DH till the children were hitting their teens

x2boys · 09/08/2022 18:26

I remember me as a child asking.my mum for a furry apple peach 🤣

mogtheexcellent · 09/08/2022 18:27

We are never thirsty at chez Mog. We are drinky.

watermelonlipbalm · 09/08/2022 18:29

My son calls eye brows air brows and I don't think he's ever going to stop 😂
He also has coined Grandma, Bram-mar 🙈

Bless him!

VeronicaBeccabunga · 09/08/2022 18:32

Dressing down, which we still use for dressing gown.

Magzeeweens for magazines, I still agree to meet up with my husband at this section of the supermarket.

StinkerTroll · 09/08/2022 18:34

Spiky food, not spicy food 😁 dds are now 15 and 13 we still say 'how spiky is it?'

Jumpoline makes so much more sense than trampoline. Just looked it up on Smithsonian website and it is named after a diving board in Spanish but American inventor

We call it - following DS - a bounce-aline here, which I feel is also a better word then the actual one. DD (still, aged 7) calls squirrels 'squillers', and again, that rolls off the tongue a lot more easily I find. We'll be sad when they both go.

StinkerTroll · 09/08/2022 18:36

When I was little we used to call peaches peach apples

Shutupyoutart · 09/08/2022 18:37

Cuppytea for a cup of tea, sossies for sausages, if someone has pins and needles its described as having fizzy hands, feet etc.

SoRuff63 · 09/08/2022 18:37

in our house:
umbrella = hellabella
utility room = tittier room

SunflowerSmith · 09/08/2022 18:38

Flum for thumb.

Dd used to say the 'f' sound instead of 'th', one day I was telling her it was moth not moff and to put 'th' at the end, she very slowly said moffth.

She also once had a tantrum when her elder sister had the last mini roll cake and said it wasn't fair, a couple of days later when I was writing the shopping list she asked me to add 'not fair cakes'.

Oh yeah, we had that too! Also, the terror that was known as the Fibremen.
The Garlics and the Fibremen. Horrifying. 😂

iklboo · 09/08/2022 18:42

Scrumpled eggs
Statube (statue)
Lompster
Dark Vader & his life saver
Permissioner Gordon

ContadoraExplorer · 09/08/2022 18:42

Caipoo for Calpol because that's what DD first called it. She's only 3 now but I think it'll stick around while Calpol is still I'm the house.

LateMumma · 09/08/2022 18:42

Coopupper for cucumber, doklit for chocolate and cheese scrapes for grated cheese. Funny how these things stick

UpdateStoleMyProfile · 09/08/2022 18:43

Hurtycopter and noisybike (helicopter and motorbike. Sensory issues!)
