Things that are now forever named after something your kid said

In our household, I make a rice dish sometimes that is named after my son's reaction to it when he was about 3. Knowing he liked rice and sweetcorn, I presented him with this dish that includes both, only for his little face to crumple and him to give an anguished cry of 'MUMMY, WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO IT?!'

So of course, it has ever since been known as 'Mummy why did you do that to it?!' (I've even crossed out the name in the recipe book and written it there). DS is now 11 and actually likes MWDYDTTI these days, although he still leaves the green peppers.

Is there anything that your household now refers to by something memorable one of the kids has said?

We call fireworks "bang stars" thanks to Dd

pastypirate · 11/02/2023 12:41

These are my favourite threads in mn.

Cat litter converter - catalytic converter. Dd1 assumed the former cos of the god awful smell!

Autard -cardigan. F knows why dd2 used to call them that.

A-puss. Octopus.

Hanitiser - hand Sanitiser

Ahh I commented on the thread months ago about my nephew and his ‘up eggs’ and ‘down eggs’ (boiled vs fried).

My own DD 2.5 has now added ‘jumbled eggs’ to the menu for scrambled.

We also have nonnals for snails, and butbut for rabbit.

We’ve also adopted her slightly weird way of speaking in the style of a wise old crone - she’ll ask you what something is and when you tell her she says ‘oh yes. I know this.’ Or telling you to do something she will say e.g. ‘get me a drink please daddy you must do this’. We use ‘you must do this’ a lot between ourselves now.

Just remembered another one today - a local cafe we still call 'The fireman cafe' after a day I took out DS and my nephew when both aged 3, and DN was dressed as a fireman, and we stopped at that cafe, so it remains the fireman cafe.

Also when he was a toddler, he called fingers “bingers “. We still refer to washing our bingers years later!!

We still call scrambled eggs 'scrambled snake' after our 4 year old called it that years ago (from The Gruffalo). He's 15 now!

AlwaysLatte · 13/02/2023 07:47

Another thing we still say is when your fingers get all wrinkly from being in the pool/sea is 'funkly fingers' which our youngest coined years ago.

Our local newsagents has now changed to a Spar but is still known by the family as "the frog shop". So named by toddler DC as we bought chocolate frogs, Freddos, from it. Size toddlers now 23 and 25 years old!

Ours is called The Freddo Shop for the same reason 😂
Mine are 16 and 17 now 😂

Iatethelastrolo · 21/01/2024 18:09

My mum's dog Diesel is now called Diesel Dog thanks to my son.

HR313 · 21/01/2024 19:40

When my eldest was around 2 she called cucumber ‘cubub’ it’s stuck even since 😊

HoppingPavlova · 22/01/2024 02:44

Sausages have remained snausages in our house, kids are now adults. Bananas are still nana’s or naninoo’s. There’s a well known department store that is referred to only as The Lego Shop as that’s where we would go for kids to look at/buy Lego when they were young. Plus a few others, such as some fruits known as a completely different made up name by kids we couldn’t be arsed working on at the time (obviously as they got older they knew the correct names but we all still stick with the old ones). Then there’s a {insert name of kid} chocolate that we named that as the first letter of the chocolate matched the kids name. Everyone in our house still refers to it thusly.

It’s funny as if you are from outside our family you would have no idea what we are talking about with many of these things.
