Things that are now forever named after something your kid said

In our household, I make a rice dish sometimes that is named after my son's reaction to it when he was about 3. Knowing he liked rice and sweetcorn, I presented him with this dish that includes both, only for his little face to crumple and him to give an anguished cry of 'MUMMY, WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO IT?!'

So of course, it has ever since been known as 'Mummy why did you do that to it?!' (I've even crossed out the name in the recipe book and written it there). DS is now 11 and actually likes MWDYDTTI these days, although he still leaves the green peppers.

Is there anything that your household now refers to by something memorable one of the kids has said?

Our dishwasher is always known as the “doshwisher”, deodorant is “radio on it”, helicopters are “hoppiters”, chocolate is toccy, and rice krispies are “keefies”.
The phrase “I do it my own” is also still uttered jokingly to (now adult) DD in memory of her favourite independent shout aged 2!

Jjacobb · 10/08/2022 22:34

We have ear beeps for the thermometer and today I actually used 'blendy' instead of blurry when talking to my optometrist today, that was toddler dd's descriptor, she's now 10!

Cake is Geck (nephew used to pronounce it like that).

Automatic sliding doors are "The Business" - my son used to talk about going in The Business, open The Business, shut The Business when he was little and eventually we worked out this was what he was referring to.

Toenails are footnails.

Potatoes are Matatoes.

Father Christmas ' visit is known as What-Doin-Down-Dere. We accidentally woke our son up during delivery one Christmas Eve and that is what he said. He didn't remember though! He is 17 now and also uses that expression.

honeylulu · 11/08/2022 08:54

I read (here maybe?) about a kid who called cauliflower ‘ghost broccoli’ which I thought was brilliant.

Kezbez87 · 13/08/2022 11:17

Also, what you did say? For what did you say

Ashard20 · 13/08/2022 11:18

Wirrul = squirrel
Cat ham = sliced ham. It comes from when DS was little and his grandma used to give her cat slivers of thinly sliced ham!
