New thread as needed.

I wonder what new promises will come out this week?

Please list all those fantastic new trade deals that have been negotiated post brexit.

Give us the facts.

Didn’t we strike a deal with New Zealand for lamb? Fucked over our own farmer's mind.

'If you offer an opinion then other people will offer theirs'

Yes and I can cope with robust debate. However my point was a pp said I was 'toying' with posters, suggesting my aim was to wind up rather than correct and offer a balanced view.

cakeorwine · 12/08/2022 18:13

Different opinions are fine

I am just going to leave this sketch here about opinions and facts

Yes Truss did the Australia/New Zealand deal that will fuck over UK farmers.

Cornettoninja · 12/08/2022 18:13

Yes I understand that, I just don’t think the ‘freedom of speech’ lecture was proportionate or even needed.

cakeorwine · 12/08/2022 18:19

It is of course hard to see the effect of Brexit, given we have had the pandemic and now a cost of living crisis.

But we have just made things harder for ourselves in a world that is getting harder

'How can Tory voters live with themselves for foisting these awful specimens on us?'

Thank God we did 'foist them on us' or else the last 2 years would have been much much worse, #BecauseJezza. You should thank us really. Trade deals, vaccinations, open economy, led on Ukraine, nhs covid backlog clear. It's just a shame BJ was ousted by Cummings led backstabbers or else I'm sure he'd have sorted the energy crisis too.

Open economy? We're back in negative growth. Johnson thinks it would be all OK if we had nuclear reactors but can't explain why none have been built in the last 12 years. As for vaccination, look at the link posted upthread - twitter.com/mac_puck/status/1541329319330553856?s=21&t=hCFfrQXUM3uLDiNaf9zKqg - and tell us what's so great about that, or indeed about the fact we have fallen so far behind on fourth vaccinations. It's also incredibly noticeable how little interest our Prime Minister currently has in the Ukraine.

Could you explain how the alleged backstabbers managed to make Johnson appoint a known sex molester to a position of power over juniors, fail to react adequately when he molested someone publicly, and send various ministers out to tell inconsistent lies for him? Or do you think it's OK for a Prime Minister to behave like that?

Quia · 12/08/2022 18:42

Oh, yes, @JaniieJones, perhaps you could also explain what exactly has been stopping the Prime Minister from sorting out the energy crisis, as you are so confident of his ability to do so?

tobee · 12/08/2022 19:44

If you count weekends (why not?) he's got 24 days left.

itsgettingweird · 12/08/2022 20:29

I don't know why but it suddenly hit me today how we are choosing the next PM of 68 million people in a crisis and they are being ejected by just 150k people.

Our system sucks when you have to remember our elected MPs a d party work for us.

And 150K pretty right-wing people at that, judging by the policies the candidates obviously think will appeal to them.

This is one of the occasions when I'm fervently hoping both candidates are lying and have no intention whatsoever of honouring the majority of their promises. But I'm not too optimistic about that.

Yes. It was this that made it hit me earlier. Watching how much more right wing each new announcement gets and listening to ministers coming on to discuss things like the energy crisis and all they want to is endorse Truss.

Sunak won't get in because he's actually promising to help. And we only have to hope is isn't lying but I don't think we'll ever know.

I think that for quite a while Janiie has been toying with us.

I do too. Because all the facts go against everything she says. So it must be so.

Even the two candidates say the Government have fucked up over years.

They are a bit dim because in attacking each other, they are highlighting all that has gone wrong (see Claudine's link above)

SueSaid · 13/08/2022 08:48

'I do too. Because all the facts go against everything she says.'

'Toying', it is just a ridiculous thing to say on a forum where debate goes on. I'm not 'toying' I'm disagreeing and correcting Grin.

How many people "voted" for Gordon Brown to take over from Blair as prime minister?

Can't say I've noticed any correcting. Particularly given the number of salient queries that are ignored.

Quia · 13/08/2022 08:56

Presumably, @JaniieJones, as you want to give Johnson credit for slightly improved surgery figures, you accept he is fully responsible for all the increased waiting lists elsewhere in the NHS? You can't have one without the others.

Any thoughts on our negative growth figures, including the comparison with performance of other G7 countries?

How many people "voted" for Gordon Brown to take over from Blair as prime minister?

Everyone who voted Labour in 1997, 2001 and 2005. Labour voters knew about the deal and that Brown was Blair’s heir. My great sadness is that he was PM for such a short time, he’s an astute politician and a thoroughly decent man.

DuncinToffee · 13/08/2022 10:29

I guess Buckland has been promised a new job, he has switched from Sunak to Truss

I agree. His big error (apart from daring to be Scottish) was not going for an autumn election in 2007. I think Labour could have squeaked a win.

W T A F ???

So random people who are not British citizens, who live abroad, who have never lived here, can join "Conservatives Abroad" for £25 per annum, and vote in this leadership contest

Absolutely shocking when the British people have no say.

DowningStreetParty · 13/08/2022 11:58

Agree with you about the narrow win Claudine, Brown should have held his nerve and gone for it, rather than be held back by worries about jot looking as popular as the 1997 days.
This unelected incompetent shitshow Johnson is leaving us with is a while other undemocratic ballgame and I completely agree with you Rousette
