I am a youngish professional, moving to Bristol. Can anyone advise on nice areas to live, not to far from centre with local shops/amenities. I don't know Bristol at all, so don't really know which areas to to look in. TIA

A lot depends where you're going to be working
Traffic in Bristol is horrendous at times and there are now Clean air zone charges

Echo what PPs have said. I moved here 6 yrs ago and found it hard to get my bearings at first. The city centre itself isn’t big, but there are lots of different neighbourhoods, each with their own feel, so you’ll need to explore and find the bits you like. I’m in north Bristol which has the Downs, and more of the ‘posh’ areas like Clifton and Redland, but these also have lots of student housing in big tall flats too, so be careful where you rent/buy. Mostly it’s obvious which buildings are student digs but best to be aware.

Safety wise, it’s certainly no worse than any other city and in some ways it’s probably safer - there’s a really strong community vibe in Bristol and I think people would stop and help if they saw anything bad happening in the street. The actual centre can get a bit rough at night.

Bit of a side point but I would definitely consider getting an e-bike and live somewhere big enough to store it securely. Far, far faster than trying to get anywhere by car a lot of the time! And the battery savea you getting quite so warm en route

I am getting on bit though - dc lives in Bristol and does not seem put off cycling up the hills!
