I have loved these threads in the past and also have just had a huge wave of nostalgia while making my DC’s dinner, macaroni cheese thinking back to my own childhood and my mother doing the same for me...

Its Saturday night, I’m 9 years old (almost 10) and I’ve been out on my bike all day with my friends, back in for tea and my mum is making macaroni cheese for with tomato ketchup and crushed ready salted crisps on the top (a tradition I both hold dearly and curse my mother for starting with my own DC)

My Dad is back in the door from the football, working not watching (police) and is showered, bare food with a beer, Paul Simon is the vinyl of choice (though I’d rather be watching TOTP’s)

There is fish or steak on the side, and prep for my parents nice Saturday night dinner, mum is counting sweeties (Saturday sweetie night) into 3 bowls for me and my sisters and we will be banished though to the sitting room with the tv while they eat and enjoy a bottle of wine.

The generation game is on the tv and in my Pj’s under a blanket with a bowl mixed with skittles and rolo’s and I keep here my parents merry and chattering in the next room and all is right in world.

What are you up to?

I'm 25, working in IT and it's Saturday night... as the newest member of staff I'm on call on Saturdays, so I'm sat with a pot noodle hunched over a wiring loom or disk array trying to work out WTF is wrong this time. At least the money is bloody excellent.

RubyJack · 06/08/2022 19:42

I spent 2 weeks in Lanzarote with my sister followed by two weeks in Tenerife with my boyfriend, now dh.
One of the best summers ever :)

Sillystripytail · 06/08/2022 19:48

I was 16 months old so hopefully I was fast asleep so my mum could have a nice break from me and my 2 older brothers!

On this day in 1989 I was at my wedding evening party.

I've just finished my degree, moved in with two friends in a flat in Nottingham and started my first job as a trainee reporter on the local paper. Going to The Irish tonight, bloody brilliant.

I used to go to the Irish! Not on 1989 though!

Antarcticant · 06/08/2022 20:00

I can't even remember how we used to organise spontaneous get-togethers in the pre-mobile phone age!

I used to know all my friends' landline numbers off by heart. I can still remember some of them now 😃

I would have been 10.

Every chance that I was in my nan's caravan in Rhyl. It wasn't anything special. It had gas mantel lamps and a porta potty. The tiny black and white tv was run from a car battery and would only run for 6 hours before we had to strap the battery to a trolley and take it to the nice man in the car repair place around the corner to charge it overnight.

So today we would have probably gone to collect the battery as nan loved the tv on a Saturday night. On the way back we would have stopped at the little bakery where she would buy 5 mini hovis loaves so we could have tiny sandwiches for lunch. If I had been good I could close a cake. We would then stop at robin hood caravan park play area. I would enjoy whooshing in the rocket and my bare short clad legs would get toasted by the boiling hot chrome slide. Then we're should go back to Lyon's . If the sites had had new display caravan delivered then we would "oooh" and "aah" over the beautiful new designs and his huge they are compared to our tiny 1 bed van. We would have lunch and then go swimming. Nan didn't swim but she would sit poolside watching me . After swimming we would go to the arcade for half an hour and I could have 2ps for the penny falls while she played bingo. Then back at the caravan we could pull the magic Murphy wall bed down and sleep in the living room. I would doze off to the sound of Bruce Forsyth on the generating game, excited about waking up in the morning to the smell and sizzle of bacon and eggs done on the tiny stove.

I never ever felt safer or more loved than I did with my nan in that caravan.

I'm 19. Sat at my dressing table putting my make up on. My hair is probably very back combed and I'm wearing my favourite black velvet strapped dress. I'm going out with my boyfriend and friends to a pub and then our local indie nightclub. The people across the road have been playing Ride on Time on a loop, very loud, for days and I'm sick of the fucking thing! Thanks for the memories OP Wink

Saturday night tv wasn't the best as I recall it was all game shows and occasionally a decent film later on
I much preferred Sunday night tv ,Tenko,Howard's way etc .@

Just moved into our first flat, a bit worried about paying £240 a month mortgage after our rent had been £160.

Couldn't afford nights out so Saturday was a night with fish and chips eaten off Eternal Beau crockery in front of the tiny portable TV we'd got second-hand. Washed down with a bottle of peach Concord wine.

dontyoubother · 06/08/2022 20:08

I am a sperm and an egg. I will be conceived sometime next year. For now I am not here. Spooky. Always enjoy reading these threads!

chubbachub · 06/08/2022 20:11

I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's eye then.

LaQuern · 06/08/2022 20:16

x2boys · 06/08/2022 20:17

FTMworrier · 06/08/2022 20:20

I'm 11 and in the south of France on eurocamp type holiday with my mum, dad, sister and sister's friend. We drove down in our vauxhall carlton. I am wearing pale blue jeans rolled up at the bottom and a californian raisins t shirt.

My sister and her friend are using a lot of hairspray. I've been making friendship bracelets all week. Evenings are spent at the local (dodgy) funfair or playing mini golf. Long days on the beach eating apple doughnuts from the beach vendor. A happy time.

I’m 19.
Had a bath and now drying my waist length blonde hair using mouse and a defuser to give it the shaggy perm look.
putting on my black skin tight trousers, black off the shoulder top and high boots in readiness to go out to a fantastic rock club in town with my mates.
Im listening to Whitesnake and The Cult to get me in the mood.
I look fucking gorgeous but didn’t know it.

Happy happy days.

LadyCatStark · 06/08/2022 20:27

I don’t know, I was 3 and my sister was 1 1/2 and we lived in an RAF base. I think we had our cocker spaniel by then so maybe we’d have gone for a walk with him. All these stories sound so much nicer than today!

dropthevipers · 06/08/2022 20:29

I'm either playing in a gig (freelance pro cellist back then) or off my face on whizz. Happy days.

Blackcountryexile · 06/08/2022 20:30

Newly pregnant with DD1. DH and I getting used to the idea. Preparing to go to Paris on holiday and hoping i'm not going to be too sick,

Todayissunny · 06/08/2022 20:32

17 and (I think it was 89) getting on a train with two friends and our bikes from Norwich to Plymouth. We cycled all the way around the coast of Cornwall staying in youth hostels. It was complicated with teenage girl moods, but it was fabulous. Probably the most memorable holiday I have ever had.
