Join me in reminiscing, it’s a Saturday night in August 1989 what are you doing...

I have loved these threads in the past and also have just had a huge wave of nostalgia while making my DC’s dinner, macaroni cheese thinking back to my own childhood and my mother doing the same for me...

Its Saturday night, I’m 9 years old (almost 10) and I’ve been out on my bike all day with my friends, back in for tea and my mum is making macaroni cheese for with tomato ketchup and crushed ready salted crisps on the top (a tradition I both hold dearly and curse my mother for starting with my own DC)

My Dad is back in the door from the football, working not watching (police) and is showered, bare food with a beer, Paul Simon is the vinyl of choice (though I’d rather be watching TOTP’s)

There is fish or steak on the side, and prep for my parents nice Saturday night dinner, mum is counting sweeties (Saturday sweetie night) into 3 bowls for me and my sisters and we will be banished though to the sitting room with the tv while they eat and enjoy a bottle of wine.

The generation game is on the tv and in my Pj’s under a blanket with a bowl mixed with skittles and rolo’s and I keep here my parents merry and chattering in the next room and all is right in world.

What are you up to?

Trying to explain to my (then) 3 1/2 yr old step-daughter why she is now going to be living with me and her dad.

I am just about to turn 11, go on my first plane holiday to Majorca and getting a bit panicky about starting high school...

I am 4 years old. Dad will have taken my teenage brother to the first football match of the season. I will have spent the day taking our dog for a walk with my mum and grandma, then playing on the garden with the boys from 2 doors away while my mum did the ironing. We will have eaten chip pan chips with sausages and white bread for tea, and if I was lucky I will have been given a supermousse for dessert. I will now be watching a tv gameshow with my nan before going to bed wearing my favourite My Little Pony pjs.

I'm 3 years old so probably had Angle delight for pudding, a bath and watching Chip N Dale rescue rangers before bed. Happy days.

Spanielsarepainless · 06/08/2022 18:50

Married just over a year and living in a large shed on a nature reserve.

I'm 17,will have just been holiday shopping in Birmingham for my 1st girls holiday to Tenerife.
I have spent a fortune on rimmel make up and scrunchies at my favorite stall in Oasis market.
Now I'm getting ready to go to Snobs nightclub with my mates to dance to ride on time while swigging a pernod and black.
Such happy times 😀

I’m 21 and just moved into a basement flat in Hammersmith with my boyfriend. We’ve spent the day painting the bedroom in pastel stripes, like a fan, on ceiling and walls, and then we’re going to go and get something to eat and go to the theatre using the free surplus tickets the theatres donate to the London hospitals for staff. Unless I’m on nights, of course. Such happy days.

legosunqueen · 06/08/2022 18:53

Just graduated from uni, job hunting, living in Bradford with my boyfriend who is now my DH. On the tail end of my unfortunate goth phase...

largeprintagathachristie · 06/08/2022 18:54

I'm 17 and with my first love. 1989 was a lovely, lovely year.

legosunqueen · 06/08/2022 18:55

Probably going to a gig or to a pub then club...drink of choice snakebite & black or lager...

Squirrel26 · 06/08/2022 18:56

I’m 7. I’ve probably been to trampolining, or gymnastics, or ballet. Or all three. We might be having burgers for dinner, or hot dogs in buns. Was Challenge Anneka on on Saturdays? If so I was definitely watching that. (Big fan. Had the board game.)

Stressybetty · 06/08/2022 18:57

Age 16, on a Saturday I worked over lunchtime in the kitchen of the conservative club in town. Washing up, preparing sandwich ingredients, peeling spuds etc. Saturday night was steak pie made with a tin of m&s filling and homemade suet crust and homemade chips. Being so happy I'd left school where I'd spent years being bullied and heading for 6th form with my best mate.

WhatIsModeration · 06/08/2022 18:58

I'd have been a couple of months shy of my 5th birthday and getting ready for my first day at school ☺️

iwishiwasonhol · 06/08/2022 18:58

Was 16 and had just started a full time job (well YTS) would have collected my pay packet of a massive £29.00 for a 40 hour week ,would have gone for a couple of drinks straight after work and got the last bus home at 11pm . the joys of the days of ID not really being a thing just had to remember to add a few years onto your date of birth if you were ever asked

grayhairdontcare · 06/08/2022 18:59

Getting ready to go to The Hacienda or Isadoras

I would have been across town at Millionaire's or Bobby Browns. Dancing and drinking at looking forward to Lanzarote. Grin Mine's a vodka and lime.

I'm 30, I've spent the day doing live roleplaying in a local wood, and am now in the pub with my fellow players and fiancé - our wedding is a couple of months away but we're more excited than stressed by it. I'm looking forward to a day of rest tomorrow, before getting back to the commuting to London grind on Monday.

I'd rather be here and now!

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 06/08/2022 19:00

Probably getting ready for a night out in Suju nightclub in Swindon. Followed by a stumble down Vic Hill to the kebab van outside the college and then up the hill to home.

Antarcticant · 06/08/2022 19:00

Most likely my GCSE History coursework. I seemed to spend most of that summer sitting at the dining table bashing away on an electric typewriter doing coursework.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 06/08/2022 19:00

I'm 16 and just back from a 3 week holiday in France with my family and desperate to get away from them and go clubbing (Kelly's in Portrush!). My friend has passed her driving test and is coming to pick me up. We'll share a 10 pack of cigs and a few ciders and dance all night and then crash at hers.

Now it's kitchen disco all the way, non smoker and non drinker and pretty happy with my Saturday night 2022!

Forconfessingonly · 06/08/2022 19:01

Looking after my newborn DD 🧡
