Can I change my attitude towards sleep?

I remember coming on here years ago, hating mornings and asking if anyone could help change my mindset. It only went and worked and I've been good with mornings ever since.

Wondering if the same could be said for sleep. I have real issue with being woken up or if I don't get enough sleep. Which is difficult atm as I have a small baby whose sleep is shit.

For reference, my ex used sleep deprivation as a form of abuse for 13 years. As a result I am now unable to sleep without earplugs, and I get angry when woken from my sleep.

Can I somehow change this attitude? If so, oh wise women of MN...how?

Thanks for checking in

I'm doing a lot better you know! I've made some changes and they have done the world of good.

Installed baby's big cot, with side talen down, up against the bed. Means I cam reach baby easily and I'm nearby. We have also upped his solids and moved bedtime to later in the evening. He is sleeping SO much better. Instead of grazing all night long, he feeds once. He's a lot more rested and therefore so am I.

I have started taking vit D again religiously. I changed up my diet keeping carb intake low and I am intermittent fasting (not eating after 8pm and skipping breakfast. This gives me bags of energy! I've started swimming again and I'm using the boy's punch bag to boxercise.

I don't use my phone after 8pm and don't check it in the night. I've stopped checking rimes when baby feeds at night. I've stopped stressing about when he's asleep.

Oh and the jewel in the crown...we have discovered the most energising thing of all. Dh takes over the night shift at around 1am...I go to spare bed...and I stay in bed from then until I wake naturally...on a day baby is in day care...dh will take baby over at 8am and when I wake I do t have to immediately be on duty mother. I can relax and log on to work with no stress of strain. I can brush my teeth and have a wee and even a shower!! without any hassle. It's wonderful. We will do this once a week, the day baby is in daycare...dh has agreed to take that day wfh too. We were both quiet at work last week and got to spend the day together swimming and in a jacuzzi!! It was so energising and wonderful. I think half of my tiredness was the mental load of not having time to myself upon waking. I've also taken to staying awake when I wake just before baby in the morning. So I can scroll my phone etc and go toilet so it's not so intense.

So all in all...things are so, so much better. This thread helped immensely with getting me to this point. So thank you all xxx

Just saw this thread and wanted to say that whatever your mindset about sleep, your attitude to transformation is positively inspirational. So impressed with your faith in the process of change in the midst of feeling so beaten.
Wishing you all the restful best!

This means so much, thank you 😊

I've stayed strong in the face of adversity so many times in my life, I often wonder when or if I'll give up! Its not yet anyway 🤩

And yes...I have absolute faith in the process of change. Change is good and is achievable. Any bad situation can be reversed if you put your mind to it. I'm a firm believer because I've done it many times. 😌
