King Size or Super King Size Bed?

georgiekinge · 02/08/2022 18:43

Trying to decide what size bed to get in our master bedroom in our new house.
Bedroom has built in wardrobes, so all that we'll need in the room is bed, bedside tables and maybe a vanity table.

Bedroom is an odd shape, but where the bed will go, the room is around 13foot wide and 10 foot deep.

Currently we have a king size bed. We are getting rid of our old bed as it's old and rubbish. We currently only have some cheap sheets on there, and the duvet and pillows could be used on the double guest bed.

Any advice?

Super king sheets & covers can be more difficult to find so less selection or they're expensive

5zeds · 02/08/2022 18:45

I’d go as big as possible and a really good mattress

Super king no question! Sheets really aren’t hard or expensive to find if you shop sensibly, TK Maxx is great, so is dunelm. I could never go back to a smaller bed, and we prioritised the bed over the extra space when we had a much smaller bedroom than we do now. Just been on holiday and honestly, getting back into our own bed has been the best bit of the whole week!

Super king all the way.
duvets and sheets are harder to find (if your fussy like me) shops have them but they are limited.
its a pain when you go away and places don’t have king size as a minimum tho, going back to a double is like sleeping in a single bed with someone!

WhoopItUp · 02/08/2022 18:48

Super king. No question. Mine is amazing as there is so much space.

I haven't found this so far. I'd go as big as the room will allow, as long as you realise changing bedding is quite a task (my Fitbit has on occasion noted it as 'sport'!)

Make sure you can get a super up the stairs!

MuddlerInLaw · 02/08/2022 18:51

Actually I’m always seeing super king sheets on sale as there’s presumably less demand for them! (I have a super king duvet on a king size bed because the super was reduced to less than the king size.)

If it’s to accommodate more than one person I’d definitely say buybthe biggest possible. But make sure two people will be making the bed or you’ll never find your way out from under the duvet. (Hmm … I must warn you if you choose a wool duvet you can cancel your gym membership. It’s work.)

Housewife2010 · 02/08/2022 18:51

Definitely a super king. Also I'd definitely recommend linen bedding - far nicer than cotton.

MuddlerInLaw · 02/08/2022 18:52

BlueBlueCowWondering has said it already!

RioDJ · 02/08/2022 18:55

Super king. You will need new pillows though.

Brented · 02/08/2022 18:57

Super king all the way!! I still do a happy wriggle when I get into bed. Super king sheets are easy to find and often are the ones left on sale. On the downside, our second baby might take a few more years than planned as we don’t brush up against each other anymore!!

FirstFallopians · 02/08/2022 18:57

I haven’t found it difficult at all to get bedding- the only places that don’t tend to do super king size are the supermarkets and the likes of The Range and B&M.

Plenty of choice in places like M&S, Dusk (online) or Dunelm, and if you’re happy spend a bit more there’s never any problem getting stuff on Linen Bundle or The White Company etc.

Beebumble2 · 02/08/2022 19:05

Depends who’s doing the laundry and ironing

Hugasauras · 02/08/2022 19:06

Super king if it fits. You never regret going bigger!

SophieJo · 02/08/2022 19:12

Superking and John Lewis ‘Anyday’ bedding is the cheapest I’ve found.

Wotaloadofshit · 02/08/2022 19:15

Definitely go for superking. I've just upgraded and would never go back to a smaller bed. Bedding and sheets very easy to find in most places and not much more expensive than king size. Although how much bedding does anyone buy that spending an extra £10 to £15 on a Full set of reasonable quality bedding and sheets is unaffordable.

Super King by a mile. You can always stretch out properly. Bedding is not hard to find at all.

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 02/08/2022 19:32

I think it depends on your height and build.

A short couple of small build would be fine in a double or maybe even a small double (in my case) but a couple who were tall and of a larger build would be much more comfortable in a super king size bed. A couple of average height and average build may prefer a king size.

I know a man who is 6ft 4in and has to sleep in a king size bed due to his height so that his feet don't dangle off the end of the bed.

PeloAddict · 02/08/2022 19:34

Super king. I have one to myself!

2reefsin30knots · 02/08/2022 19:45

We have a super with a double duvet each. It is heaven!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 02/08/2022 21:39

Turning a new mattress on a super king is an absolute mission.

DoubleGauze · 02/08/2022 21:46

Definitely super king. I don't find bedding difficult to find at all.

I find changing the bedding a pain as I'm so short , but it's a small price to pay for the comfort of a larger bed.

Get a good firm mattress though , we made the mistake of buying soft and it was useless after 18 months.

soberfabulous · 02/08/2022 21:47

Super king all the way! Next online is full of bedding.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 02/08/2022 21:49

Super king. Massively regret only getting a king, nowhere near enough room for me, DD, 1 dog and 2 cats.
