Sinus sufferers, how do you manage/avoid getting the headaches?

Hi all
Just that really, just had another bad day where I was really knocked for hours with bad headache and nausea. Easing off now had some toast and can hopefully work tomorrow. I've been diligent about taking antihistamines to reduce mucus, what does anyone else recommend?
Tia!

Does anybody have facial swelling with their sinus infection ? I have been to the doctor today as my cheeks have swollen and my skin is so tight and uncomfortable on my face also itchy. My nose has run and run like a tap and I'm so blocked it's awful. I've never had anything like this before so I really feel for you all who have this repeatedly it's really got me down

Yes sometimes my face is puffy but not always
This time I felt like I wanted to shove the heel of my right hand into my eye socket to get some relief
Pain gone now but like a zombie all day

I know this sounds daft but I always find having a cup of hot water to hand helps. Just like you would a cup of tea. Always end up needing the loo a lot but I find it does help. And cutting dairy while you have the sinusitis. Good luck I feel for you.

I actually felt like smashing my head off a wall as pain was soo bad but the sudofed spray and pain relief helped. Nearly went to a&e but sitting there for 12-24 hours I probably would have smashed my head off the wall ha... Yes face gets swollen also around cheeks and eyes puffy and the nasal drip and I have to snort to try to get relief..

Sinus massage

Chronic sinus suffered here too. I use antihistamines 2-4 a day, fluticasone nasal drops, avymys nasal spray. Occasionally I need steroid tablets also to reduce inflammation.

I have polyps and a deviated septum. All the above help ease inflammation. However I’ve gone dairy free and have really noticed the reduction in mucus.

I live in an area with a lot of air pressure changes. When the weather IS like that I take 2 x 600mg acetyl cysteine capsules every morning. It's a mucolytic, sold otc in France as mucomyst. Only needed antibiotics twice in the last 3 years.

Forgot, chronic or frequent sinusitis is a symptom of hypothyroidism.

I had a sinus operation a few years ago, never had a bad headache or a numb face since.

Cut out foods with high histamine levels. The biggest change I’ve made is to cut out dairy. It made a huge difference. Also take antihistamines when I can feel my cheeks becoming ‘woolly’ or my ears and throat scratchy. Sinus migraines are pretty much non-existent for me now, and they were debilitating and almost constant for me for years.

A local friend told me this week that consuming turmeric daily will prevent hayfever. I am definitely going to try this out as it is a much cheaper strategy than the two I mentioned above.

Canwegodancing · 03/08/2022 22:08

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions
Going dairy free anyway did it years ago but just slid back to old habits since

I get terrible facial swelling, I’ve got a twice broken nose too, so that doesn’t help.

I take nurofen as anti-inflammatory and drink cough medicine with guaifenesin in it as that thins the mucus so that it drains!

fenugreek and turmeric good ideas!
