I love Zara Ramm and Robert Glenister , especially reading the Cormoran Strike books. Any other suggestions would be most welcome. I can't listen to Jonathan Keeble though , hate his women's voices!

And Martin Jarvis reading Just William

Came here to say this!

Me too! The books are great, but his narration is just perfect.

Ben Aaronovich has suggested that he’s coming up with weird and wonderful accents for his characters just to hear Kobna do them.

When I have to stay away for work I make sure I have some Kobna to listen to and if makes me feel right at home.

Plus, did you know he was the prison warden in Paddington 2? I’d recognise that voice anywhere.

Michael Kramer - he does a lot of fantasy stuff. I have been listening to a couple of the Brandon Sanderson series (I like to pick looong books, value for money: one of them is nearly 60 hours!)

Stephen Fry is ok reading Harry Potter but for anything else his voice is just so pompous and exaggerated.

SisterRuth · 01/08/2022 23:54

Richard Armitage reading anything.

I love listening to whoever narrates Lianne Morartys books. They are all set in Australia, and the woman who reads them has such a lovely accent and tone.

Caroline Lee. I like her narration too.

AllLopsided · 02/08/2022 00:07

Lesley Manville, reading the Richard Osman mysteries.

Emilia Fox has done lots of audiobooks - I really like her voice. I've listened to novels I wouldn't have heard of if she wasn't narrating.

I agree Bill Bryson is very easy on the ear!

Mark Meadows has a nice voice too - especially like him in Tom Fox's cat books.

The narrator is very important for me. I always listen to a sample and don't buy the book unless I like the narrator(s)!

Mouldyfoodhelp · 02/08/2022 00:11

The guy who reads the " you" series sounds exactly like the actor who plays the main character in the show ( but isn't)

scissorsandsellotape · 02/08/2022 00:13

Emilia fox Reading Philippa Gregory
Also
David Tennant Cressida Cowell

TwoBeeBrutallyFrank · 02/08/2022 00:15

Yes yes yes to so many of these! I love Stephen Briggs reading Terry Pratchett. Also Hugh Fraser reading Agatha Christie. Jenny Sterlin reading Howl's Moving Castle. For those who haven't discovered it yet The Riyria Revelations Series read by Tim Gerard Reynolds is very good.

ClaudineClare · 02/08/2022 00:16

Sam West narrating Grimm Tales for Young and Old.

Edna O'Brien narrating her own books, The Country Girls and Girl with Green Eyes.

TitilatedOcelot · 02/08/2022 00:23

Neil Gaiman reading his own books.

ShinyHatStand · 02/08/2022 00:29

Another vote for Richard Armitage

DiscoBadgers · 02/08/2022 00:36

Joseph Kloska reading the Thomas Hawkins books by Antonia Hodgson

There’s a narrator called Ruth Sillers who reads quite a lot of light historical fiction who is great.

YES to Lesley Manville, Richard Armitage and Sam West!

CallmeMrsPricklepants · 02/08/2022 00:40

Martin sheen reading the book of dust and the sequel. Light years better than Philip Pullman scratchily butchering his dark materials.

NannyGythaOgg · 02/08/2022 01:13

Kristen Atherton is very listenable. She has great character voices, although I didn't like the way she read The Half Sister - it was very unnecessarily shouty. Absolutely fabulous with A Season of Secrets, you could always tell which character was speaking - which is great for me as I listen to go to sleep with so I like saga type books and no sudden loud voices or noises.

fudfootedfannybangle · 02/08/2022 07:31

@PeggyGa yes! I came here to say Angus King - my username is a Bob Hoon quip!

Confundo · 02/08/2022 08:11

Juliet Stevenson is brilliant reading everything. Perdita Weeks was excellent on Circe. I’m 99% sure I would have given up on both Milkman and Piranesi except Bríd Brennan and Chiwetal Ejiofor made both come to life. Michael Sheen also excellent on the Pullman books.

But my god, Dominic West on the Remains of the Day nearly broke me.

DaisyWaldron · 02/08/2022 08:18

Avi Roque was fabulous for Cemetery Boys - that was one of the rare audiobook a where I got significantly more out of the audiobook than I did from the written book.

InconvenientPeg · 02/08/2022 08:24

David Monteith, he did the Hamish Macbeth series and now I've even started listening to a thriller series he's narrated which is not my normal genre because I enjoy his voice so much.

Willdoitlater · 02/08/2022 08:28

Sean Barratt reading the Wallander books, or Slough house series, or anything really.

PeggyGa · 02/08/2022 08:39

@fudfootedfannybangle those books are amazing have you listened to the standalone hoon ones?

I might change mine to ya jebb end!

SausagePourHomme · 02/08/2022 09:42

Agree very much re Neil Gaiman, can't imagine anyone reading his books better.

Stephen Fry reading harry potter is mostly great but he has a tendency to screech the female parts, hermione, mrs weasley etc. However his dolores umbridge is spot on.

Bernadinetta · 02/08/2022 09:44

Ben Miles reading the Wolf Hall trilogy

Elodie09 · 02/08/2022 12:39

So many excellent suggestions, brilliant, thank you. I can make a huge wish list now.
