I love Zara Ramm and Robert Glenister , especially reading the Cormoran Strike books. Any other suggestions would be most welcome. I can't listen to Jonathan Keeble though , hate his women's voices!

Donna Tartt reading The Secret History is amazing. The character's voices are so distinct and convincing - I can listen on repeat.

I also loved Brid Brennan reading Milkman (which I rather battled with in print).

Oh yes, Donna Tartt has the most amazing voice. There used to be an audio book of her reading The Little Friend as well but I can't find it any more 😩

Jason Watkins is fantastic reading Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson.

(My favourite is still Richard E Grant reading The Sea, The Sea. Its just glorious.)

Did anyone see the comment on Twitter about Stephen Fry’s women’s voices? Always shrill and screechy.

can't find this but I'd be interested to see it, can you link?

I got the first Hoon to try. Sorry, it was awful, too try hard and the alcoholic ex cop on the rough side trope has been done to death and so much better.

David Suchet and Hugh Fraser narrating Poirot rank highly for me.

@Yajebbend 😁 excellent work! I put the Bob hoon books on in the car and it has the kids listening intently and howling.

I too have done all the j d Kirk ones, but he seems to release quickly so hopefully we won’t have long to wait.

I’ve found nothing on audible that come close to the sheer pleasure of those series’ - and so am working though the digital mountain on kindle for now.

Thank you so much to both of you for making me seek these out. Still on the Logan books but looking forward to Bob and loving his brief appearances!

I can't listen to Sean Barratt, sad about that as I was trying to do another book in the Joe O'Loughlin series by Michael Robotham . I just can't bear it any longer I get to read it instead though so that is ok.

Another vote for Kobna and Rivers of London. He does it so well. They are making a tv series of the books soon and I don't know if I'll be able to relate to a Peter Grant who does t have the 'right' voice.

I'm really hoping they'll find a role for Kobna in the TV series, though he obviously not the right age for Peter.

Oh yes Americanah is fantastic on Audible. Can I also recommend Milkman by Anna Burns. Its such a fantastically written, poetic book but dependent on knowing the Belfast accent and colloquialisms to fully appreciate the dry as desert humour. It is beautufully performed and feels more like a one person performance than a book reading. I was riveted. (I live in NI but not of NI).

Has anyone else noticed that the Daily Deals are dreadful recently? I haven't been tempted to buy one for ages!

At the moment I am listening to Jeremy Northman read Dark Matter by Michelle Paver. Everyone recommends Pet Cemetary too as the narrator is wonderful. I mainly listen to horror so not much use if you don't like it

I agree about Dark Matter

Paul McGann narration on podcasts Short History and Dictators is brilliant not too much drama and such a soothing voice

he must have narrated books on audio too

Agree that Adjoa Andoh is great - loved all the different accents in Americanah. I was going to listen to the Girl with the Louding Voice because she narrated it but bought it on a 99p kindle deal so will read it instead.

I really enjoyed Christopher Eccleston reading his own biography, will look to see if he has narrated any fiction.

@RaininginDarling
I bought The Sea, The Sea narrated by Richard E Grant on your recommendation (well, and the similar reviews) and I am enjoying it so much! Thank you.

My favourite narrator I think is Fenella Woolgar. I love her reading Kate Atkinson books and Tracey Chevalier's A Single Thread, she has a wonderful period voice for books set in these times.

I also really enjoyed listening to Prunella Scales reading Elizabeth Gaskell, Ian Holm reading Wilkie Collins, Hugh Fraser reading Agatha Christie, Martin Jarvis reading William Brown and Bill Bryson reading his own works.

I only listen to autobiographies if they're narrated by the author; Adam Buxton, Limmy, Gyles Brandreth and Bob Mortimer's have all been great.

Can you tell I love Audible? Grin

So pleased to hear this! I looooved it so much! Going to check out your recommendations as I sense we have similar tastes.
