Putting a holiday all over SM while you're still away

Doesn't it worry you to tell the world the house is empty for 2 weeks?

People do things like automated lights and curtains to try and make the place look occupied and then spend the holiday posting pictures.

When I was a child my parents wouldn't eveb have milk or papers delivered so they didn't have to cancel them (thereby telling people) when we were away, so I accept my normal may be extreme, but isn't it foolish to go out of your way to publicise when you're away?

I thought it was the modern day of when people invite you round to look at their holiday photos 😆

RampantIvy · 02/08/2022 07:37

That as well @blanchrspot, except that you can ignore them without seeming rude in this case.

Afterfire · 02/08/2022 07:38

I put my pics on Facebook. I enjoy looking back on them in the memories section over the years when they pop up in the future and I only have about 30 people on there with very tight privacy so I know no one can see them apart from those people. Not everyone has 200 plus people or public settings!

I guess it is but you can just scroll past if you don’t want to look!

I enjoy seeing peoples holiday photos. Not everyone hates it!

blanchrspot · 02/08/2022 08:03

I never claimed everyone hated it 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only time I've been burgled we were all at home asleep. So even if we are burgled when we're away, the one person sleeping in the house won't be much of a deterrent.

Where do you buy these automatic curtain rails from? They sound ace.

blanchrspot · 02/08/2022 08:21

@RampantIvy this may sound unbelievable but I've actually witnessed older colleagues (who are complete rational & capable) asking why someone hasn't liked a photo/or complained that no one has commented on a post.

RampantIvy · 02/08/2022 08:37

They need to get a life @blanchrspot. Although, I don't see what age has to do with it.

blanchrspot · 02/08/2022 08:41

they have got good lives tbf. Only mentioned age because at work they are the ones that use it. I don't use it & my younger colleagues are all into tic tock.

I post some holiday pics on FB, but to an album with an extremely limited audience of about six people - relatives who know we're away and some close friends. Once we're back I change the setting on it to my usual.

I'm 63 and don't use TickTock, Instagram or Snapchat. I thought only teenagers used Tick Tock TBH.

DD (22) says that "only old people use Facebook" 😁
However, I know people in their 20s who use it a lot.
