I'm starting Saxenda on Monday, this will be my first time. Does anyone have any advice or stories they'd like to share?

I've been on it 4 months. Lost nearly 3 stone

Worked well for me with minimum side effects. Sticking to lower dose now due to cost

FrocksAndFrills · 31/07/2022 20:59

Hi I started mine on Thursday so am on day 4. No major side effects just feeling a bit tired. Definitely stopped that snacking…can eat meals but much smaller portions. Good luck!

Mydoghealsmyheart · 31/07/2022 21:35

Is Saxenda one of the medications that may cause thyroid cancer? They’ve apparently seen evidence, I believe, in rats and now I’m terrified of trying any of these type of drugs. I’m desperate to lose weight but these potential risks, if I’ve read the reports correctly, make me wary.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 31/07/2022 21:36

Sorry if I’ve scared anyone, don’t mean to do this!

SucculentSunshine · 31/07/2022 21:40

Yes it can cause thyroid cancer.
Ive been on it a month or so. It has been great (11lbs lost) but also had some horrible side effects (diarrhoea, nausea, egg burps, more diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea).
but it does make me eat less and I feel in control of my eating.

hamandpotato · 31/07/2022 21:41

@SucculentSunshine so lots of time in the toilet then! I've just started this evening, let's see how the next week goes...

I take a daily probiotic and mint oil capsules to try and help the side effects. Drink plenty of water and try and stick to plain food and small meals rather than big blowouts.

RaisingH · 31/07/2022 21:46

Good luck, I'm 5 stone down since January using Saxenda.
I haven't really struggled with any of the more unpleasant side effects but occasionally have had stomachache if I've had too many carbs.
I stayed on each dose until I felt it was no longer working and have only recently started taking the full dose.
As for the risk of thyroid cancer, I just feel being obese put me at much higher risk of getting cancer and a multitude of other illnesses anyway so I'm prepared to take the risk.

FrocksAndFrills · 31/07/2022 22:01

Yes you are correct but as far as I am aware it has only been seen in rats and not in human trials. I made the decision to use it despite the small risk. Being obese is a cancer risk in itself so on balance I thought it better to go in Saxenda for a few months. Never an easy decision….

Mydoghealsmyheart · 31/07/2022 22:05

They’re really sensible approaches everyone is taking. It’s absolutely right that being morbidly obese carries high risks anyway so you’ve certainly helped me to think again. I’ve tried to get Semaglutide prescribed by the hospital but my local CCG are saying until NICE formally recommends it then it will not be prescribed to a wider group of patients. I’m desperate for something to help me. Hearing your positive experiences certainly helps. Good luck to you all.

cherrypiepie · 31/07/2022 22:55

It really great. I was nervous but needn't have been. Tuned off my greed so to speak and now eat three small healthy meals a day and have no desires to graze, binge, urge to eat what ever it is.

I inject as I wake up, then get weighed every day. I settled in 1.8 mg it was effective for me after trying and going up to 3mg.

Google saxenda dose charts that shows you how to increase your dose and note which day you started which is day one. I have one does chart that I preferred as it told me when I was due a new pen.

I've had no side effects of note. And I was expecting lots.

I also got used to leaving food on a plate.

Haha no not scared me!!

I mean, not so long ago we were pumping ourselves full of covid vaccinations!

Medications have to list any side effects. I know loads of people on sax from various groups....all ok

MarmiteCoriander · 01/08/2022 00:20

I've never heard of this. Does it decrease you appetite, stop you absorbing fat or work some other way?

millerpie · 01/08/2022 00:30

It works great but I couldn’t stand the side effects. It made me feel quite wired and gave me bad heart palpitations but I was using it at a time when my job was very full on and stressful. It’s something I’d try again when the times right. It was bloody wonderful not to be hungry.

TotallyKerplunked · 01/08/2022 01:07

Are GPS prescribing this now? Otherwise how are you getting it?

Rainbows89 · 01/08/2022 01:39

I’ve been taking Ozempic for 8 weeks.

it has a significant impact on my appetite. I feel much more ‘normal’ and like I have an off switch!

I have had some nausea and fatigue but it is loads better now.

my scales had been In storage so I hadn’t had a chance to weigh myself but I did this morning for the first time and I’ve lost 14lbs!

im v happy with that! And I have not been dieting at all. I’ve been eating what I usually eat, including treats, but just much less.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 01/08/2022 01:44

It’s available on private prescription @TotallyKerplunked

I tried for it but my BMI wasn’t high enough. I’m wondering whether to try somewhere else.

Private prescription of course!

SucculentSunshine · 01/08/2022 16:36

Try Asda doctor online it’s the cheapest I’ve found.
it works by slowing the digestive process down so you feel fuller for longer. Which means you can get 💩 issues. Diarrhoea and constipation are main side effects.

but for me I’m willing to tolerate that for the sake of losing weight. Obesity has a fuck load of unpleasant side effects too. And yes with the cancer risk - most things do cause cancer so I’ll take my chances.

lostinabook · 10/08/2022 11:34

First dose just administered, fingers crossed!

Plinkyplankyplonk · 10/08/2022 17:56

I tried it and found it pretty awful. Horrendous side effects, and as soon as I came off it the weight piled back on almost instantly. I'm now on ozempic and doing loads better!

GirlInACountrySong · 12/08/2022 06:21

Nobody in our WhatsApp group have found they regained any weight. How odd you did!

Your eating habits are retrained. That's what we all found anyway. Nobody needs to binge eat anymore,It's not a cure all fix for greediness

Knittingmamma · 13/08/2022 13:11

I just ordered my first batch. Hoping I can start Tuesday.

lostinabook · 15/08/2022 18:29

I am five days in and have.definitely noticed a difference in my appetite. Only one near whoopsie when went out for a lunch date with husband and over ate and soon after my body told me!
It feels like it is resetting my food brain
