Heartbreak by a thousand small cuts

DH was admitted to our local hospice on Friday. He has terminal brain tumours. His short term memory is not great and he is really confused, not dissimilar to dementia.

He's just called me. It was so nice to answer that call because he hasn't shown any interest in his phone for a couple of weeks. He sounded almost normal when he greeted me. And then he started talking about going to work. And asking where I work. And didn't ask about the kids. This is so fucking painful.

Still reading Plant and thinking of you.

PlantPhoenix · 21/09/2022 22:17

Thanks @ArrowNorth

DH died on Monday. While the lead up was long, his actual death was quick and incredibly peaceful. I saw him that afternoon for a few hours, received a call early evening, DD1 and I were at his bedside and he died two hours later, in his sleep. ♥️

Oh Plant, I am so deeply sorry to hear this but also so very glad that he died peacefully in his sleep, with you and DD with him.

I cannot even imagine how you and your children are feeling, and no doubt you will have a journey ahead of you which will go through many different stages of grief.

I am giving thanks for the gift of reading your thread and witnessing your immense love for your husband. What a beautiful, incredible thing your love is.

May your dear husband rest in peace. 🌟

Much love to you and the kids, @PlantPhoenix. I went through similar with my mum (albeit a different type of cancer) and the days and weeks after she died were a sort of numb blur. Sending you strength.
