Sat in car on a campsite. Happy Holidays

Morning All, after an accident involving urine in the sleeping bag me (not guilty) and 4 year old are sat in car on a campsite in Pembrokeshire waiting for rest of family to wake up. Wish I could say it was a beautiful view watching the sea/sunrise or listening to birdsong but we’re both fed up and tired. She’ll probably fall asleep but I shall silently seethe and think of my dry, sweet smelling bed at home. It’s day 2! But no more rain. Apparently. Been here since 5:30am. Can I hear your holiday horror stories whilst I hold my own bladder and wait for a reasonable time to wake everyone else up. Thanks 😭

No stories for you but sending good wishes for the rest of your day! Can you make some coffee without waking people up?

RainbowCrayons · 25/07/2022 06:45

Very similar story happening to me right now with an over excited toddler leading to a vomit covered sleeping bag. Now we have to find a laundrette today. And it has rained for the past 3 days.

TabithaTittlemouse · 25/07/2022 06:49

Oh @babysgotthespends !
Is there a laundrette on site?

TibetanTerrah · 25/07/2022 06:51

Not a horror story but an embarrassing one to hopefully cheer you up a bit...

In my mid 20s I was playing ping pong after entertainment staff had dragged a bunch of us up. I hit the ball, completely missed the table (terrible at ping pong) and the ball started to roll towards the edge of a very steep cliff drop, with only mesh with big holes around the edge. That ball was a goner if I didn't grab it.

I stepped up on the low platform to chase after it. It was about the height of two stairs but my leg gave way as soon as it pushed me up, so I rose directly upward... then completely faceplanted the tiles. I didn't even bend, just fell straight Grin I'm pretty sure the thud rumbled all the way around the hotel! I cut my knees, hotel staff flapped, got first aid and made a huge fuss.

I skulked to the bar still bleeding and tried to ask in broken Spanish for a shot of vodka to steady my nerves and swallow my shame, I'm sure I said something much worse Grin

I hope your day gets better!

Restlessinthenorth · 25/07/2022 06:55

Here we are in a luxury resort in Greece. Everything one could wish for. And two tweens who are both whingeing and complaining about everything known to man, who only want to stare at phones and watch the videos they watch at home. With a hefty dose of sunburn through in for good measure! Won't be bothering again!

YetAnotherWalk · 25/07/2022 06:56

DS had a bubblegum ice cream aged 18m then puked in the early hours. DH and DD had to go find a launderette. A decade on, it was still discussed on this holiday and he's never had one since.

Hope you've had a wee and a coffee and can doze. Maybe a pack of pull ups to get through the week?

babysgotthespends · 25/07/2022 06:57

Thanks for the messages.

I'm going to wait until 7am before I start on the coffee. Not long now.
RainbowCrayons
On no! That doesn't sound fun either. I hope you get it clean and dry before bed. Solidarity ✌🏿
Tabitha
There is but this is a blooming double sleeping bag. So I don't think it'll fit in. So will have to find a dry cleaners. That will do a one day service

Am definitely after emergency pull ups too

Thanks everyone

The sky is clearing too. Not quite a heatwave today but maybe some sun x

Last time we camped my daughter vomited all night. We'd had a drink so couldn't drive to a hotel. It was grim. I hope you're enjoying a coffee now!

CactusFlowers · 25/07/2022 07:11

See if there is one of these near you - giant washers and dryers often found in petrol stations. www.revolution-laundry.com/en-uk/

babysgotthespends · 25/07/2022 07:11

Wanda
That does sound grim.

No signs of life in the tent yet. Might send my very awake 4 yo through Wink

Thanks for this. The nearest one is 23miles. But the nearest decent Fish n Chips was 15miles and we made that journey with no effort. So it's a definite option x

Camping in France in 1977. We had several really hot days then the weather broke one night with a huge thunderstorm. When the weather calmed down we went to sleep, and were woken up the following morning by high winds and rain and an almighty roaring. We each had hold of a tent pole, the flysheet ripped off and the rain came through the inner tent.

When the wind died down we peeked out of the tent and saw that half of the tents had collapsed and the 2 ton marquee had been picked up and flown up the field. A tornado had ripped up through the field, and our little two person tent was one of the few left standing.

The farmer whose field it was was brilliant. He had a drying room where all the campers could dry their sleeping bags and offered his barn for everyone whose tents had collapsed. Someone drive to the nearest city to get blankets from the Red Cross, so we all slept in the barn until our tents and sleeping bags dried.

It continued to rain solidly for the rest of the fortnight. And the following week Elvis Presley died.

DH and I are seasoned campers. When the kids became too old to take on holiday we decided to go camping in September. The weather was still warm …. But only during the day.
i started with a mild cold the day before but I shrugged it off.
we got to the campsite. Pitched up and had a lovely dinner.
that night my cold became something more. I could not get warm, raging temperature, shaking, confused etc.. we slept in our clothes even though our sleeping bag was ‘ three seasons’
In the early hours DH ended up shoving me into the car (completely gaga) and throwing the tent into the boot.
later that day I was in hospital with severe pneumonia. 20 yrs later it still comes up in conversation when we look at the weather and say ‘ oooh September looks mild this year…….’

get a new sleeping bag…. Big hugs

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 25/07/2022 07:26

Ah op one day it will be one of those great stories that make up the tapestry of family history!

Oblomov22 · 25/07/2022 07:30

I wouldn't go to somewhere so remote with young children. Driving 1.5 miles, rather than 15, is about as far as I'd go for our Friday night fish and chips, when we are in our Dorset caravan.

SuperSange · 25/07/2022 07:31

If the forecast is too, I'd take it to the sea or the nearest bath, rinse it out and hang it to dry somewhere. Could that work? If it's wee as an emergency it just needs a good rinse.

SuperSange · 25/07/2022 07:31

Good. Not too.

ohblowmedown · 25/07/2022 07:33

Mmm...will dry cleaners sort out a urine soaked sleeping bag? I think I'd be tempted to go for the giant petrol station laundry or buy a new one!

Oblomov22 · 25/07/2022 07:33

You're better off driving to the nearest big place and buying a new sleeping bag from Go outdoors or similar, if a laundrette is so hard to find.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 25/07/2022 07:37

I was on a Cub camp recently when one of the Cubs accidentally pooed in his sleeping bag.

We went and got him a new one and bagged up the dirty one to take home. We did it all really discretely so the other Cubs had no idea. Poor little chap.

Thebritisharecoming · 25/07/2022 07:38

Our first holiday abroad, ds was about 2 years old. Arrived late night and to our room, which felt like a store cupboard.
Bright and early next morning we changed room, things were looking good. Went for early morning walk and da face planted the pavement and had one of those small Spanish paving tiles indented into his face for the rest of the holiday.
Same holiday he was injured on his foot….
It’s all family folklore now years later.
Take the bag to get washed, start afresh and enjoy your coffee.

Middleware · 25/07/2022 07:43

The joy of camping! But if it helps you can usually unzip the double sleeping bag all the way round wash the top and bottom separately in a standard washing machine. Hopefully you can get some rest while someone else does that

We're not remote. St David's is about a 5min drive. But we wanted decent fish and chips 🤷🏿‍♀️.

It's still legendary in our family when we went on a campervan holiday and my littlest brother slept on the driver's seat (it went down flat into a single bed). Obviously, he peed on it. This was the first night and my dad had to sit on a black bin bag for the rest of the holiday. It was stinking so my mum sponged it at every stop, this re-soaking the chair. Good times 😁
