Sat in car on a campsite. Happy Holidays

Morning All, after an accident involving urine in the sleeping bag me (not guilty) and 4 year old are sat in car on a campsite in Pembrokeshire waiting for rest of family to wake up. Wish I could say it was a beautiful view watching the sea/sunrise or listening to birdsong but we’re both fed up and tired. She’ll probably fall asleep but I shall silently seethe and think of my dry, sweet smelling bed at home. It’s day 2! But no more rain. Apparently. Been here since 5:30am. Can I hear your holiday horror stories whilst I hold my own bladder and wait for a reasonable time to wake everyone else up. Thanks 😭

If it makes you feel better , my six year old ate a huge tuna and sweet corn sandwich yesterday and then subsequently vomited the lot in our car without warning. Vomited tuna is a smell only a cat could like really.

ivykaty44 · 25/07/2022 07:48

my eldest dd was sick in her sisters hair in the tent....

NancyJoan · 25/07/2022 07:49

Oh, wake them up now. Drive into Haverfordwest, go to a laundry, then get some breakfast in a cafe. Supermarket for pull ups and a few bits for lunch.

Thanks for the messages.

I'm going to wait until 7am before I start on the coffee. Not long now.

On no! That doesn't sound fun either. I hope you get it clean and dry before bed. Solidarity ✌🏿

There is but this is a blooming double sleeping bag. So I don't think it'll fit in. So will have to find a dry cleaners. That will do a one day service

@babysgotthespends is there a supermarket nearby that has some of those big washers/dryers ? I think Morrisons have them.

actually my eldest was sick all over our hotel room on another holiday - that time though we got a room upgrade...

whiteroseredrose · 25/07/2022 07:51

We were camping one year and a man started shouting in the middle of the night. His toddler was weeing all over him.

They left that morning.

Went to Llandudno when DS was around 7 yo. Lovely sunny few days. Coming back down (very twisty A5 road) DS suddenly threw up down back of DHs seat, and all in his hair, with a grand finale of opening the suit case on back seat next to him - and throwing up in there too!
He then cried all the way home cos he’d been sick down his favourite t shirt!!.
We never did get the terrible smell out of that car!!

babysgotthespends · 25/07/2022 08:01

I really appreciate your stories and messages of support. DP is up, has made me a lovely coffee and will be sorting the laundry. DD is still wide awake and will no doubt have a tiredness induced meltdown at some this afternoon. I shall point her in DP's direction if this happens Wink
Very cloudy and chilly but still no rain.
I actually love camping and will talk about this incident with mirth. But not today Grin
Thanks all x

Good luck! We camped in Wensleydale when our twins were two. They decided sleep was for wimps - bouncing round the tent until sunrise while we tried to keep them quiet. On night 3 we fell into an exhausted coma- only to be woken up by angry neighbours telling us the twins were up and playing outside.Angry

My DS barfed all over a friend's holiday hire car. It stank to high heaven

Bednobsbroomsticks · 25/07/2022 08:06

Went camping. First day lovely. Second night about 2 in morning heard a group camped next to us . One of the men started beating up his partner. We heard a woman screaming someone call for an ambulance. I poked my head out tent and rang 999. Then we hear oh my god he's slashing all the tents. Police turned up. They weren't told to leave campsite and still there next morning. We left that day. I will never sleep in a tent again (kids were little) where there is only a cm of material between my kids and a complete nutter. Enjoy your holiday haha

We hired a camper van last year, and on day 1 DS (age 4) opened the van door and dramatically faceplanted onto gravel. He is autistic and kicked off whenever I went near his cuts and grazes. I had to wait until he was asleep to clean them and spent hours hoiking out shards of gravel with my tweezers. Fun times…

Calmdown14 · 25/07/2022 08:13

Doesn't the double sleeping bag come apart? They usually split into two (mine has a coloured part on end of zip where it comes apart). That way it goes in normal washer

For this reason camping I still put my 8 year old in pull ups. Extra tired and I'm not risking it! Thankfully he's skinny so they still fit easily

AngelsWithSilverWings · 25/07/2022 08:13

Had many disasters while camping but it's still one of my favourite types of holiday.

Dd once vomited over her sleeping map and self inflating middle of the night. DH got up and rinsed everything off in the laundry room put a wash on overnight. Meanwhile I made a makeshift bed in the tent porch and stayed up all night while DD spent the night vomiting into a bucket.

On another trip after a glorious week of amazing hot weather a massive wind storm hit our cliff top pitch. It was so frightening. Our air tent and a nearby bell tent were the only things standing by sunrise. I stayed in the car all night with kids while DH tried to keep the tent up. There was no let up in the wind so we decided to pack up but as soon as we emptied the tent the wind took it and DS who was holding one of the ropes off towards to cliff edge. DH and a group of people from nearby caravans managed to save it and DS but the tent ripped and that was our camping holiday over. We found a cottage after that to continue our holiday.

Another memorable holiday disaster was when we arrived at our booked villa in Corfu and the hire car refused to make it up the very steep driveway , stalled and rolled back down hitting a wall. The villa owner . an ex racing driver , managed to get it up the hill but declared the car to be faulty and called the car hire company to shout at them. An hour later a new car was delivered to us. No mention of the damage to the car so I guess they knew the car was faulty when we picked it up.

Current holiday has been one disaster after an other - flight cancelled two days before , quickly rebooked another only to have that cancelled as we were leaving for the airport. Insurance company saying they may not pay out for the accommodation we had paid for but couldn't get to. Booked a last minute all inclusive package holiday instead and it's awful - can't wait to come home! We've had to move rooms due to a maintenance problem, need to get up at 6:45am or not have a sunbed all day. Food inedible and drinks disgusting. This year's holiday just wasn't meant to be.

JumpTheGun · 25/07/2022 08:18

Good grief @Bednobsbroomsticks 😱

My worst recent experience was getting up with a very sleepy 4 year old who needed a wee in the middle of the night. While I was kneeling on the floor trying to unzip the tent he weed all over me. Fortunately we were only camping for one night for an event. Unfortunately there were no showers, and I was wearing all my warm clothes as it was a cold night, and they all got soaked. I spent the following day shivering as I had nothing but a t shirt to wear and smelling of wee.

2lostsouls · 25/07/2022 08:19

I’m off camping with my kids today. OP I hope things look up for your trip. But I’m kinda wishing I hadn’t just read this thread..

zebrapig · 25/07/2022 08:20

Check out the laundry on site if they have one. They're normally industrial sized ones IME.

This has brought back our memorable trip from 10 years ago. Camping on Anglesey, randomly on the same (tiny) site as a group of friends. All due to leave the same day, they decided to go the evening before as it was due to rain and some of the kids weren't feeling well. We decided to stay as it was just us and we were fine. Big mistake. About 10pm DH came down with gastroenteritis, being 3 zips and a dash across the field away from the loo was a nightmare. The tent stank of vomit as he didn't make it in time. The following morning I binned the duvet and some of his boxers and put the sleeping bag in a bin bag to wash at home. DH spent the morning sat on the loo cradling a bucket while I packed everything up on my own, in the rain.

Gazelda · 25/07/2022 08:23

We were staying in a static caravan. Had a lovely holiday and were packing up to leave. I was just giving the caravan a last clean before handing back the keys by check out time. Except DD (4) suddenly and without warning vomited all over every single surface, including carpet tiles.

We did our best to clean and freshen, but I was very shameful when I turned I gave our keys into reception.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 25/07/2022 08:31

We went to Centre Parcs when the DDs were little. Got knows why but friends had been raving about it. Day 3 we decided to escape in the car (almost impossible in c parcs: feel like you've been locked in) and youngest DD did a massive projectile vomit in the back of our new car and all over her older sister's coat. And obviously all over herself. We drove to a supermarket for a change of clothes and limped slowly back to c parcs. She chundered again and again. The security dude let us drive back to our cabin (again against the 'rules') whereupon we had a further 24 hours of continuous vomiting and no cleaning facilities in the chalet. We left early when she had stopped being sick and arrived home to second daughter starting.

Forever known in our family as Centre Pukes 🤮 now. We've never been back.

One time when DS2 was about 18 months old we were going camping, we were invited to a wedding and decided to make a little break.
DS2 started vomiting in the car and it didn’t really stop, we were only 1.5hours from home so I decided to come home with him and left DH with DD and DS1. I also had to bring home our only car so DH was stuck.
I ended up staying home for 2 days and driving back on the morning of the wedding.
