What’s your favourite thing about your home?

We’ve not long moved and as dull as it sounds my favourite thing about this place is the half whitely gig thing attached to the side of the house left by previous owners.

I thought it would be crap, wouldn’t have enough space (we don’t have a dryer) and obviously doesn’t spin being attached to the house.

On the contrary; it’s in this windy spot of the house where it gets the sun all day and is protected from any rain by the eaves. A loadis dry in a couple of hours max (we’re not in one of the heatwave spots of the uk).

what’s your favourite thing in your home (dull or otherwise!)

My hallway. There is a stained glass panel above the front door which I adore and two other windows so it's lovely and light with plenty of character.

One of my favourite items in the house is a little cast iron candle holder that my DF made for me years ago. It's only a small thing but would be one of the first things I'd take with me if we ever moved.

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 24/07/2022 17:28

The view from the front room. We live in the countryside and it is beautiful.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 24/07/2022 17:44

My garden. We spend so much time out there.

Not fussed about the house.

Timeforabiscuit · 24/07/2022 17:46

Huge windows which open full size, so it's wonderful and airy when there's a breeze.

Hellocatshome · 24/07/2022 17:50

No carpets. A sweep and a mop job done and no worry long about people taking their shoes off etc.

dudsville · 24/07/2022 17:52

I moed agaes ago to a quiet little street where people don't move on from until they're in need of care or actually die. We will be the same, I love everything about my little home on my quiet little street with my quiet little neighbours. We count our lucky stars so frequently, and it's only been about a decade since we moved!

CormoranStrike · 24/07/2022 17:53

We had an open plan dining living room but never really used the giant dining by room.

I got rid of that, put glass panel doors in to break up the room, popped a fire on the wall and a lovely recliner chair, plus a much smaller dining table - we now use that room all the time.

Akite · 24/07/2022 17:55

The view. We live on a hillside in a rural area and have stunning views across the countryside. Apart from that we don't like much else at the moment and have been considering a move but the view would be hard to leave behind.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/07/2022 17:55

Open fire with a brilliant 'draw' on it so you never smell of wood, I love it so much in winter when it's all cosy with the candles on

rubberhead · 24/07/2022 17:59

We moved 3yeats ago from our small 3 (tiny) bed semi to our forever home. 5 huge bedroom and lots of space. DC has lots and lots of friends too and we have everything on our doorstep. It was worth the v v v long wait

Lampzade · 24/07/2022 18:00

My triple aspect ( windows) bedroom.

PuttingDownRoots · 24/07/2022 18:02

It belongs to us, not the Army. Its not magnolia with horrid carpets and curtains.

Denny53 · 24/07/2022 18:03

My favourite thing about my house? my family that live in it

TalkingToMyselfAgain · 24/07/2022 18:06

The area - it's a nice suburb with good neighbours/no trouble from anyone, and the views across fields as we're on a hill.

I love the waste disposal unit in the kitchen.

Megapint · 24/07/2022 18:11

My bedroom. It's really calm & the only room In the house that's ways tidy & clutter free. It's also always in shade because of the trees on this side. My bed is massive king Xl so all the kids can fit.

Goatling · 24/07/2022 18:11

At the moment it's when my 'd'h isn't in it.

Spanielsarepainless · 24/07/2022 18:15

My limestone fireplace, which replaced something black and heavy.
My fish tiles behind my washbasin.

Bluevelvetsofa · 24/07/2022 18:18

My kitchen/living/dining room, because it looks out over the garden and it’s spacious.

My bedroom because it’s spacious.
My neighbours.

nocoolnamesleft · 24/07/2022 18:20

The view. It's why I bought it.

EspeciallyDeIighted · 24/07/2022 18:22

The view from the front door, lived here 20 days and I still open it most mornings and just stand and look for a few minutes.

Bigwetdog · 24/07/2022 18:29

Tough choice. Between the walk in wardrobe, that DP and I don't have to share a bathroom.... But I think it's that it's two mins walk to the train that gets me into central London in 20 minutes

Hedgesfullofbirds · 24/07/2022 19:17

The very quiet, very rural location, no neighbours within half a mile, it's history, quirks and unspoilt originality, the views, the fact that it hugs me and makes me feel welcome every time I walk through the door, the beautiful antique longcase clock which I bought myself as a moving in present - now 230 years old, still keeping perfect time and ticking away gently in the background, like a beating heart.
And the two gargoyles, inset into a panel in the main reception room - they came from the original Palace of Westminster, are probably Saxon in origin and how they came to be in a little Somerset cottage is a long story, but has provenance! They are very tactile, and I feel that they watch over me, and the house, as do all the people who have lived, died, been born or conceived in it over the years, as I will do, for future custodians of it, when my time comes! I will never move from here!

demotedreally · 24/07/2022 19:20

The fact I am the only person in it for the second time since we moved here 6 months ago.

It's windy and I am in a room full of windows. The trees are blowing and I'm watching grown up tv

PurBal · 24/07/2022 19:24

Can I come visit @Hedgesfullofbirds? I’m close by?

PurBal · 24/07/2022 19:27

Posted too soon.
Very hard to pick one thing. But our top reasons for buying it: well proportioned rooms despite being a 3 bed semi (smallest bedroom is 3x3m), amazing views and weirdly not overlooked, can walk over the stile in our back garden directly onto a public footpath in AONB, character.
