What’s your favourite thing about your home?

We’ve not long moved and as dull as it sounds my favourite thing about this place is the half whitely gig thing attached to the side of the house left by previous owners.

I thought it would be crap, wouldn’t have enough space (we don’t have a dryer) and obviously doesn’t spin being attached to the house.

On the contrary; it’s in this windy spot of the house where it gets the sun all day and is protected from any rain by the eaves. A loadis dry in a couple of hours max (we’re not in one of the heatwave spots of the uk).

what’s your favourite thing in your home (dull or otherwise!)

I can take my bra off when I walk through the door

The sitting room is the most grown up room I've ever had. Two huge bookcases full of books illuminated by downlights, a woodburner, two large sofas, a big coffee table and a reading chair with a good light. Interesting stuff on the walls. It's light, warm, cozy. Only taken me almost 60 years to get here!

Ilovechoc12 · 24/07/2022 19:32

no noise - detached / no cars passing and not over looked by anyone ……

Cognacsoft · 24/07/2022 19:35

My very large terrace which faces due south. In summer we eat outside whenever we can and when the dc and dgc visit we sit until 10 pm. The sound of happy chatter and clinking of cutlery and glasses is so heart warming.

Cloud16 · 24/07/2022 19:41

My formal sitting room. It's a room that swallows time though. I never want to leave it, so I don't let myself go in it much! I'd just sit and read for hours and avoid my responsibilities 🙃

Blossomandbee · 24/07/2022 19:53

I love our en suite, which I never thought I would have or want. So nice stepping straight out the shower into the bedroom and a godsend with DC who hog the main bathroom at all hours.
I also love that we're detached, the houses aren't crammed in, and our road is a quiet and fairly safe.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 24/07/2022 19:57

@PurBal , are you near the Quantocks by any chance?

ChinBristles · 24/07/2022 20:00

The replica Victorian fireplace that I bought from ebay and had installed. Absolute bargain. I also enjoy my polystyrene ceiling roses! You'd never guess this was an ex-council house, I pretend to be posh!

MinnieMountain · 24/07/2022 20:02

Recently- our lovely cool basement.
Generally- the high ceilings and it’s well proportioned.

LondonWolf · 24/07/2022 20:03

Location. It's much too small for us and we are cramped but where we are is hugely sought after and just the thought of moving to a bigger house but out of area - can't afford bigger where we are - makes me really depressed.

@Goatling hope things are ok. Sorry to read your post 💐

The lovely quiet close. Everyone slows down as they drive in as it just feels right as it's so peaceful

florianfortescue · 24/07/2022 20:09

High ceilings, big windows. It's an Edwardian house and the feeling of light and space is wonderful, especially after years of living in a very small, cramped flat.

GlamorousHeifer · 24/07/2022 20:16

The space, it is just perfect for a family of 4 (will be downsizing when the kids fly the nest).
Also, the quiet street it is on. I don't live in the nicest of towns but you'd never know looking at the immediate area around me.

Eekle · 24/07/2022 20:30

The only vehicle noise is from residents and deliveries, as there's no thoroughfare through this village.

The view from the front, that I could look at for hours.

The proximity to both countryside and city.

The space, especially when compared to previous houseshares/bedsits/cramped Victorian terraces/etc.

The fact that we own it.

Nottodayseagull · 24/07/2022 21:38

I saw (through an upstairs window) a couple of deer walking through the field at the bottom of the garden this morning.

Itsagrandoldteam · 24/07/2022 21:40

My airing cupboard - I can stand a large 3 tier airer in my airing cupboard. In the winter it is brilliant, I can put washing in there overnight and it's dry the next morning.
I would really miss that if we ever moved.

CrapBucket · 24/07/2022 21:48

Main thing is its entirely mine, I'm happy here, so are the kids and they have their friends over regularly. Wanker ex has never been in the house and never will.

Bonus that from here I can be in countryside 5 mins walk, central London one hour train. Best of all worlds.

And for a thing, my velux roof window. Its like I bought the sky.

TheOGCCL · 24/07/2022 21:52

Hard to choose!

  • the location (city centre but so peaceful) - travel options and amenities coming out of our ears
  • the fact it's upside down so more light in the living areas and less in the bedrooms (also cooler downstairs)
  • the giant airing cupboard for washing but also storage
  • the municipal swimming pool next door
  • the boiling hot water tap
  • all the bright colours
Blofield · 24/07/2022 21:53

My bed - just a divan but it’s so comfy

HesterShaw1 · 24/07/2022 21:56

The fact that I'm less than 1/2 mile from the beach

echt · 24/07/2022 21:59

The windows, most of which are full length, give on to an aspect of the garden, every one.

Humungous storage

Quiet

10 minutes' walk from the beach
