What’s your favourite thing about your home?

We’ve not long moved and as dull as it sounds my favourite thing about this place is the half whitely gig thing attached to the side of the house left by previous owners.

I thought it would be crap, wouldn’t have enough space (we don’t have a dryer) and obviously doesn’t spin being attached to the house.

On the contrary; it’s in this windy spot of the house where it gets the sun all day and is protected from any rain by the eaves. A loadis dry in a couple of hours max (we’re not in one of the heatwave spots of the uk).

what’s your favourite thing in your home (dull or otherwise!)

My garden. We spend so much time out there.

Not fussed about the house.

This. ^

I love that we live in all of it.
There is no wasted space or sad rooms that are left empty for days.

Rutland2022 · 24/07/2022 22:13

The thatch and the location. It is divine here.
It’s also small and needs a lot of work but it’s a perfect home.

I have a beautiful reading nook in the garden consisting of an egg chair and heaps of plants/twinkly lights surrounding. I lose hours and hours in there.

Our bed. It's a super king with a mattress that cost us a second mortgage and 800TC sheets. Every night is like falling into a cloud and it's our best investment.

But mostly I love that my husband and I started out in an empty house and turned it into our home and our safe space.

My favourite part is the brick cladding I put on the internal extension walls. Really warms the space up and adds character. Once I put the crittal style steel doors that will be my favourite feature.

LetsGoRound · 24/07/2022 22:21

The peace, quiet and lack of neighbours.

Howappropriate · 24/07/2022 22:29

The views- hills from the front and the sea from the back. Watching incredible sunsets from my kitchen window. And lack of psycho neighbours is a huge improvement from our last place.

My custom built walk in wardrobe

That DH lived here. I feel close to him when I am home.

SummerLobelia · 24/07/2022 22:31

I have a little outside alcove in the bricks. I call it the 'grotto'. I put a little statue (It's about 3 foot high)of a cherub in there and have grown yellow climibing roses through it. It looks a bit like a secret grotto as the roses have weaved through it.

NTitled · 24/07/2022 22:36

The fact that it is mine, and I can do whatever I like with it. If I want to paint the walls puce, I can. If I want to hang pictures, I can. No XH to moan about anything, and no mortgage to worry about (I also love that part). I also love the fact that it's a very old, mad house with endless original features, which is what I wanted. The location is also good. My student DC would also agree with this, as would their friends!

TheBestBitch · 24/07/2022 22:37

It’s cool, even in 40 heat, because it’s got old, thick walls and high ceilings
my bedroom which has a super king size bed, a tv and an en suite
No near neighbours and privacy in every room
loads of space so we can all be alone if we want to
My huge family kitchen, where I’ve fed hordes of people over the years

darlingdodo · 24/07/2022 22:48

Bloodywhitecat, that's the essence of a proper home - the inhabitants leave their mark. So happy for you that you have that comfort after your loss.

TheDuchessOfMN · 24/07/2022 22:55

Currently, the giant sunflowers growing outside my kitchen & dining windows. Just looking at them makes me smile.
My ds gave me the seeds in march for Mother’s Day

Berlinlover · 24/07/2022 23:00

The fact that it’s detached and in the centre of town.

Benjispruce4 · 24/07/2022 23:03

The mortgage is repaid.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 24/07/2022 23:09

Backing onto woods and the deer coming into the garden,

Happymum12345 · 24/07/2022 23:20

The meadow at the bottom of my garden and the beautiful walk into the town.
Having a drive-after living in a terrace before, it’s so nice to know you’ll have somewhere to park.

Pallisers · 24/07/2022 23:21

I love every single thing about our house. It is 1911 and lovely and we renovated it 6 years ago and it is just the way we want. We have a bookroom (sometimes we even call it a library between ourselves), lovely kitchen, storage etc. I love all sorts of things about it including the garden.

But I would say my favourite thing about my home is my neighbours. We are so lucky. we live in an urban area with people all around who help each other out, dig out snow, share their lettuce/herbs/tomatoes etc from their gardens. We don't get in each other's business but are, to me, what neighbours should be. A support when needed and conscious of their impact on others. I love them.
