Previous owners left bath in a terrible state 😢

I’m absolutely desperate for a good bath after cleaning this filthy house that they left behind.

Unfortunately they left the bath almost as unclean as they left the toilet. 😧

Not sure how well the photo shows but it’s deep scratches with engrained dirt, all the way down. I think possibly they washed their dog in the bath.

A new bathroom is going to have to be on the agenda. (We’ve had four quotes in, all Ā£9.5-9.9k! 😦)

Until we find a magic money tree with £10k on it, is there any way at all to do something about the state of this bath?

Cream cleaner will sort that out and the loo can be easily boxed in.

Look into bath resurfacing - I had some big enamel chips in my bath fixed and some silicon sealant replaced recently. It was £250 and the bath looked brand new. If you're in Greater London message me and I'll give you the name of the company that did mine - they were brilliant.

I hope that the over night soaking worked!

I’m having a new bathroom fitted right now. It’s quite a small bathroom and is going to cost around 8K. Tiles alone are nearly 1K, they aren’t expensive at Ā£40 pm for floor and Ā£25 pm for walls. Then there’s the cost of the tiler, new suite and accessories, plasterer for the ceiling , electrician for new lights and extractor, plumber and the fitters costs which also includes all the extras they need to supple such as the plasterboard for the whole room. It all adds up.

@InNeedofaBath I'm guessing you're very busy cleaning & unpacking etc, but when you can, I'd love to know how you got on!

We had a new bathroom (remodelled and everything included) about 3 years ago - £8,000. Had an en-suite completely replaced, toilet pipes boxed in, new tiles, everything , 2 years ago - £8,000. Just saying. 😊

I'm not sure pre-Covid prices are useful tbh. The increase in materials and labour costs since then is huge.

Well, mine was gutted (largely by me)

new sink, bath, toilet (shower over bath) all put in the same places as old, floor & 3/4 tiled (with tiles I love- not basic cheap white ones, but not incredibly expensive either). Aqua Lisa shower (with ball fill & 1 additional outside the bath/shower control. (I think that was all about £1400), 800x bath. Large (mains gas with on radiator circuit) towel rail.

ceiling replaced & skylight put in (total about 1k of the £8k)

unless you want basic cheap white tiles, shell/scalloped sink, bath & loo and the most basic shower I don't see how you can do it for less than maybe £6/7,000.

Totally agree, people on here talk as if all bathrooms are the same, some people will be happy with a B&Q budget £200 bathroom suite so no doubt will think £9,000 is extortionate, same with Kitchens, you can get a very basic kitchen from one of the sheds really cheaply but other people want Smallbone or Devizes, basically you can spend what you like but there will be a difference in looks and quality.

What a staggering display of snobbery @LadyVictoriaSponge.

worriedatthistime · 23/07/2022 22:14

I love how people can say a quote is too much without seeing it , they have no idea what work is required
You can also get tiled for £5 a metre or £500 so its impossible fo say without knowing
Some may have fi be totally stripped , floors remove maybe asbestos soil pipes replaced, so many possibilities . So you cannot say for sure £9000 is too much without knowing the scope of works

worriedatthistime · 23/07/2022 22:18

@WinterMusings guess no one has a picture or breakdown
I work for a company thats fits bathroom of the more basic kind but ling lasting and I know the costs of the items , tiles etc and not surprised at 8-10 for a higher spec bathroom

worriedatthistime · 23/07/2022 22:19

@Blossomtoes I don't think they were being snobby , its just a fact really
I only have basic kitchen but I'm fully aware that nicer kitchens cost more

LemonSwan · 23/07/2022 22:29

No idea why everyone is comparing bathroom prices. It’s just mad because unless you have identical bathrooms (which I doubt) it’s completely pointless.

For example you can spend Ā£50 on a cheap tap (less even if you get off eBay) or you can spend Ā£500+ on a tap. And there’s many taps and other bits and bobs in a bathroom. So whyyyyy are we even doing this 🤣

No, I guess not, funny that.

I hope you're getting a good deal!!
