I've name changed as I'm sure when word gets round it will be very outing. We will use "pom bears" as a term of reference for how long I've been here 😂

A large bear has appeared in my brother in laws drive. In his parking space.

Very handsome, but very large 😂

No idea who dropped him off. Or even how I missed him being dropped off. (We face his drive). 😂😂😂😂

I'm just wondering...HOW?! How was an eight foot plus bear moved on the roads, without anyone seeing?

What was that old film with the dinosaur skeleton on the back of a lorry, careering around the streets, from the 80s?

One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing.

Imaginative title that.

elfycat · 21/07/2022 20:02

DD1 helped her school paint one of Ipswich's smaller Owls (Little Hoot as opposed to the Big Hoot owls by artists).

The bear is amazing. Any clues where he;s appeared from or is it you pulling a prank?

Hotenoughtoburnasausage · 21/07/2022 20:04

One of our locals has a life size gorilla in the front garden..
Ds's gf asked if it was real.
She was 16..

Gazelda · 21/07/2022 20:05

I can't believe he's not wearing a traffic cone on his head yet!

mnahmnah · 21/07/2022 20:12

He didn’t happen to block a mumsnetter’s drive for a couple of days while he went on a bike ride with his Ford Ranger did he? Just wondering if this is her long-awaited revenge 😁

Howling 🤣🤣🤣

Definitely not. BIL is definitely not one for a bike ride.

Billy has been shoved back across the drive so BIL could park. Apparently we are allowed to keep him.
Turns out said owner of local garden centre is a friend and Billy has a broken foot so cannot be sold. Poor Billy. So discriminatory.

Could you pop some sunglasses on him please? It might make him seem a bit more friendly. Those eyes are scary.

More importantly... he can't be sold... he was FOR SALE?? Someone would actually buy that??

One of our dinosaurs is missing. With Peter Ustinov. (Don’t make the mistake of trying to track it down, I did and it turned out to be sadly quite dodgy in racial politics terms.I didn’t notice that when I was five.)

IcakethereforeIam · 21/07/2022 20:49

When one of my kids was small, we were on a long drive using the sat nav. A little voice from the back of the car asked what a road bear wasGrin.

comfortablyfrumpy · 21/07/2022 21:04

That's the stuff of nightmares. What on earth is your BIL proposing to do with him?

RagzRebooted · 21/07/2022 21:09

BillyBobBear · 21/07/2022 16:43

On closer inspection he's quite a bit creepy. His eyes either have reflectors in them or are painted a very light colour. I can see him watching me from my house 😨

The eyes are cameras, he IS watching you...

Grimoven · 21/07/2022 21:19

This will be front page of the Daily Fail tomorrow.
Wouldn't surprise me if they planted said bear on the drive.

I remember reading this years ago and it's still utterly brilliant! Grin

Yay! I'm so glad you get to keep him

Eh? I thought he was some sort of store mascot thingy. Do people in you area generally buy 8 ft bears from the local garden centre while the rest of us are stuck with gnomes?

That was one of my all time favourite childhood films. Dare I watch it again, I don't remember dodgy racial stuff but wouldn't have noticed it back then.

Anyhow, we have solved the mystery of how the bear got there. On a steam-powered lorry, driven by two old ladies. Obvs.

PyongyangKipperbang · 21/07/2022 22:43

I think the worst bit for modern sensibilities in One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing, it Peter Ustinov doing a very dodgy performance as a Chinese man with all the associated racial stereotypes that were considered perfectly ok back then. In fact thinking back, I am not sure that a single one of the Chinese characters were actually played by a Chinese person, it was a British film so I think they were mostly if not all white British actors.

BillyBobBear · 22/07/2022 07:55

Sorry folks, had some alot of wine and went to bed.

Billy has been a resident at the garden centre for quite some time. BIL has informed me there is also a Cockerel for sale if you have a spare grand that I think would make a fabulous addition.

We have been discussing where we should put Billy. I could feel him watching us all night.

You'd be surprised. My neighbour had a plastic cow in her garden for a long time.. I was quite sad when she moved. She was fabulously batty 😂

So owner of garden centre decided that as Billy was unsellable he was just what your BIL needed on his drive, and drove him over there for him to find when he got home? How delightfully bonkers! I bet he wished he could have seen the moment BIL discovered he had a new giant friend!

IcakethereforeIam · 22/07/2022 08:08

He should have tied a note round his neck, the classic, 'please look after this bear, thank you'.

Hehe I don't think even THAT most appalling CF would've been back if Billy was on his case 😁

Billy would be a natural leader of an army of teds though.

I'd be tempted to hook up a small WiFi-type microphone thing with the speaker concealed somewhere on Billy. For the visiting tradesperson, passer-by, gawker. A random, occasional "I've got my eye on you, son." boomed out now and then would be most entertaining.
