Today I went to Aldi as usually much cheaper than Tesco/Asda but today I found it really quite expensive for the little things I got! I know prices have gone up etc.

Ocado, everything has gone up by a little bit I think. I don’t really know, it’s all online so I just click what I need and don’t really notice individual prices but I know that overall my bill seems more than a few months ago.

TuftyMarmoset · 20/07/2022 15:41

A combination of Lidl and Sainsburys. I find Tesco really expensive, always end up spending about £30 on 4 things when I go in there.

EV117 · 20/07/2022 15:44

Morrison’s now mostly. Used to always go to Lidl but ours has gone so down hill, the fruit and veg just goes off within a day or two or you get home and find there’s already mould at the bottom of the punnet. I see a lot of mouldy fruit in the shop as well. They got rid of the best before dates but I don’t think the staff care or know how to rotate the stock or take it off when it’s reach the end of it’s shelf life. Not value for money if you have to chuck it in the bin for being inedible.

Waitrose - I find Tesco just as expensive, and the local aldi has terrible quality veg / meat imo. Butchers for nice meats if I'm down that way. Used to use a local greengrocer but they started being idiots during covid so avoid now.

igglepigglesredblanket · 20/07/2022 15:46

We usually shop at Aldi with the occasional Asda shop because it used to work out cheaper to do it that way but actually Asda isn't working out much more expensive at all recently.
Mum swears by Lidl for her shopping and it was cheaper but I didn't rate to food as much.

CuriousCatfish · 20/07/2022 15:46

Tesco mostly, sometimes Asda. I occasionally go to Aldi or Lidl, but Tesco is my nearest big supermarket so I nearly always go there.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/07/2022 15:48

Aldi, I get a huge trolley for about £70 , would be double that in Tesco.

MintJulia · 20/07/2022 15:49

Tesco for everything except bread which I buy from Waitrose because my branch of Tesco doesn't keep decent wholemeal bread any more. I shop for one teen and one adult, and normally spend £40 - £45 a week.

I don't buy brands except coffee, I cook from scratch, so buy basics - fresh meat, fresh fruit & veg, fish, basic dairy. No fruity yoghurts, crisps, biscuits, cakes, processed stuff, or alcohol. I only buy British meat and veg during the summer.

I haven't see a massive increase yet, perhaps 5%. Keeping it seasonal and local makes it easier.

Babdoc · 20/07/2022 15:51

I get Sainsbugs to deliver, as I’m 15 miles from their nearest shop. Waitrose is 50 miles away, and although they will deliver, their fresh produce is crap compared to Sainsbugs and they have multiple substitutions.
I’ve noticed a slight price rise recently, but nothing drastic.

Suprima · 20/07/2022 15:53

Green Chef for a meal box- then top up shops 1-2 a week from the local co-op or independent shops. Much less food waste this way.

If we need to do a big online shop for wine/loo roll/coke cans- Sainsburys

IncessantNameChanger · 20/07/2022 15:53

Lidl mostly but I find that they dont often have the basic staples in stock like cucumbers this week.so I top up at sainsbury's or Tesco. The fruit and veg definitely goes off faster than other shops so unless you use the meat within two days or freeze it, it will be off regardless of the best before dates.

Everything is at least 20p cheaper so that really adds up across a big shop

AuntieMarys · 20/07/2022 15:54

Aldi and Sainsbury's

Upupupintheair · 20/07/2022 15:54

Lidls, then anything we can’t get in lidls or top ups in sainsburys (which isn’t a lot actually). We actually haven’t paid for anything in sainsburys recently as we converted all our Avios points from using our Amex’s, into nectar points, we have about £3000 worth of points which we’re getting through.

MassiveSalad22 · 20/07/2022 15:56

Tesco, I find sainsburys way more expensive which is opposite to PP! Tesco usually comes to between £100 and £125, weekly. 2 adults, kids 7, 4 and baby. Nappies, household stuff included.

Lovemusic33 · 20/07/2022 15:56

Ocado. I tried Lidl last week thinking it would be much cheaper but it wasn’t, though I probably picked up lots of things I don’t usually buy, I ended up having to do a top up of a few things half way through the week so cost me more than what I spend in Ocado. I like Ocado because if I fancy something special I can order from the M&S range but also the have cheaper brands and their own brand, one week I bought a cauliflower and it was the biggest one I have ever seen, managed to make 4 cauliflower cheeses with it 🤣. I also find I’m more careful shopping online with Ocado, I try and meal plan and not buy as many random items that we don’t need.

I have just done a online order to cover the first week of the summer holidays for me and 2 teenagers and it’s come to just over £100 😬 but this includes cleaning products and toilet roll.usually I spend around £80 a week,

JimmiChoux · 20/07/2022 15:56

Asda home delivery. If I do go to a supermarket I go to Aldi as I quite like the special buys.

emmathedilemma · 20/07/2022 15:56

Aldi when I can (don't have one as close as other shops) so Sainsbury's or Morrisons the rest of the time or for bits I can't get in Aldi / top ups.

stackhead · 20/07/2022 15:56

Sainsburys delivery, actually did a shop in Lidl last week with my Sainsburys list (because I forgot to book a delivery slot) and it was a little more expensive than the Sainsbury's order would've been.

Guess it depends on what you buy.

Yodaisawally · 20/07/2022 15:59

Sainsburys, really can't get on with Aldi or Lidl, can't get everything I need and the fruit and veg in my local ones are crap. I also don't think it's that cheap anymore. We went into to have a look at the Middle of Lidl the other day and I noticed chicken breast there was more expensive than in Sainsburys.

LynneBenfield · 20/07/2022 16:01

Waitrose & ALDI, probably in a 70/30 split.

I buy joints of meat from the butcher; toilet, kitchen roll, washing powder & fabric conditioner in bulk sized packs from Amazon; pet food also comes in bulk from the supplier every 3 months.

NiqueNique · 20/07/2022 16:02

Yes prices are definitely going up, across all supermarkets.

We get our meat at farm shop, veg in weekly delivery. The rest of our basics/staples from ALDI/LIDL with a tiny (as in a handful of things) top-up from Morrison’s.

Bluevelvetsofa · 20/07/2022 16:09

Aldi and Sainsbury’s. Our Aldi is less than a year old, so pretty good and two others are few miles away are three years old. We sometimes get an online meat delivery and there’s a fantastic fresh fish place in a nearby harbour. We go to the farm shop for specialist stuff and Turner’s pies are nearby too.

BlancmanegeBunny · 20/07/2022 16:11

I have Lidl Aldi Tesco Morrisons all within 2 miles and Asda is 5 miles away. I usually shop in Aldi and Lidl but sometimes get a delivery from Morrisons. I buy mostly fresh ingredients and cook from scratch, never had an issue with the quality of fruit and veg in Aldi and Lidl, my local ones are very busy so there is a quick turnover.
I find Lidl and Aldi much cheaper but I suppise it can depebd on what you are buying!

queenie2016 · 20/07/2022 16:12

Marks and Spencer's and sainsburys Lidl for some bits too also like Morrisons I've never been able to get away with Tesco

SpotlessMind88 · 20/07/2022 16:13

Aldi, but i went Tesco this week because it is nearer and during the heat wave i didn't want to be stuck in my car without air con :(
Tesco was so much more expensive.
i used to shop at Lidl but their salad and fruit would go mouldy within two days, if not already covered in mould.
Aldi is great though and you can buy wine without breaking the bank
