Do people not get it- UK heatwave

Scorpio8 · 20/07/2022 08:28

Sick of hearing it's summer here but it's a bit different when here in UK they not prepared for it. At the extreme heat we had past two days here forgot about experiencing in other countries. It tells your about the train tracks and tarmac in the airport's in articles in papers online.

Like when we got snow and they were not prepared. Everything closed.
It's all about them being prepared and spending the money

We are not other countries where they prepare for extreme heat or wild fires. People have lost the houses.

We were warned that these two days would. Whatever decision people make it's up to them. I actually couldn't care as you either be sensible or stupid when something arises in this country covid or Uk heatwave or any other diseases.

I think we all should know by now here in UK they really are slow to reacting to things. This government not governments in different countries.

I know I could get a huge backlash from my post but I don't actually care. I just putting it out there.

What a ramble!!!

Still not sure of your point!

GirlInACountrySong · 20/07/2022 10:36

'Here' we never prepare?

Warnings were given....that's preparation
Businesses adapted
Schools sent out information

That's all preparation

You can't rebuild roads and railways in time for 2 days of extreme heat!!!

PeekAtYou · 20/07/2022 10:40

I'm not sure what you're trying to say but our country keeps on electing a party which only invests in schemes that make them or their friends wealthy. They are fine with the emergency services being underfunded as they know that they will be fine.

On the one hand you are complaining the government isn't prepared, on the other you are wondering why everyone is panicking, then you go on about ... what? Your writing and choice of words doesn't make much sense.
There was a report that to change all the train tracks to more heat resistance ones would take years, not to mention the cost. Obviously it has been considered.
And I think you are naive about how much time it takes to instigate change.
As for individual people - I don't think anyone is panicking. There were as many threads about people wanting to keep their kids off school as those complaining that their schools were shut. Most people were just hot and bothered and if you aren't used to heat then getting stuff done is difficult.
Before you start a thread on an obvious subject do a search.

MarshaMelrose · 20/07/2022 11:11

I was out and about yesterday and yes, people were hot, but I didn't see anyone panicking. They just put fans on and got on with it. Hairdressers, dog groomers, shops, all running as usual. Although the sandwich shop closed!

Of course everything is about cost. Do you put snow tyres on your car everybeinter or carry snow chains just in case we have a heavy downfall? I don't know anyone who does because we don't live in that sort of climate so why outlay that sort of money. You do that where you're at risk of constant heavy snow. Which isnt the case in most of the uk.

TBH, the only person who's panicking seems to be you.

Never said they should.

Er yes you did!!!

It's this UK government needs to fix up that's the issue. Roads, train tracks need to be build for it.

Your very words love!

Scorpio8 · 20/07/2022 11:31

@MarshaMelrose

Obviously didn't read properly.

If you went outside did whatever that's your business. I even went out because I had to but went home was very hot.

There's two sides the warning in place for peoples safety because and why they were panicking which because like I said they wasn't prepared. As we don't normally have this sort of heat here.

People and the lack of understanding today 😂😂

OP posts:
GirlInACountrySong · 20/07/2022 11:42

Your words and sentences are all over the place

Many posters have said they aren't sure what you are trying to say

It's all a jumbled, confused mess!!

TheFridayRabbit · 20/07/2022 11:42

I think it’s ok to feel fed up and have a rant. You’re probably exhausted by the heat and all the surrounding drama and it does get annoying when people keep repeating stupid stuff.

I hope you feel better soon.

SpotlessMind88 · 20/07/2022 11:45

I didn't see anyone panicking, i saw people going out to the park and beaches or in their gardens. I also saw people just getting on with their lives going to work and school. Or one woman on MN who decided to keep her kids at home in the dark watching TV all day, eating ice lollies 😂. I didn't see or hear any panic

GirlInACountrySong · 20/07/2022 11:46

I sell fans/air cons etc and nobody was even 'panic' buying....just buying normally

Scorpio8 · 20/07/2022 11:52

@easyday
The lack of understanding on why the warning of extreme heat.

Everyone made their own choices yesterday to be sensible or be stupid.

On other hand there were real dangers why so much warnings.

Like I said the government people were going on about train tracks and the tarmac at the airports. Obviously never prepared because they we don't get this sort of weather each year.

This definitely reminds me of when Covid started the stupidity of people. Same with heatwave past two days.

No sympathy for people who complained my child didn't like the heat today it's made them ill. You should of came them home.No common sense at all.

The stupid getting more stupid that's what's clear today.

OP posts:
Scorpio8 · 20/07/2022 11:56

I meant they shouldn't of sent them. God forbid any child got very ill yesterday.

Warning are there in place don't complain if anything happens..

People need to taking things seriously not thinking they untouchable.

MarshaMelrose · 20/07/2022 12:00

@Scorpio8 yyou're complaining that the govt hasn't made proper preparations. I'm saying that all of us make cost/risk decisions. Individuals don't buy snow chains just in case they need them one day a decade

You're complaining that people are panicking. I don't hear people panicking. I hear them moaning because the heat is uncomfortable.

If I have misunderstood your posts, it's because they are hard to understand and keep changing their viewpoint. I don't think anyone understands what you're going on about. I mean this..
"On other hand there were real dangers why so much warnings."... doesn't even make sense.

stratforduponavon · 20/07/2022 12:06

Not another thread. People blaming everyone else. Do you want to pay higher taxes to sort all this out. Curtains closed. Fans on. Dampen sheets. Close windows. Yet people bleat they forgot, or someone states they went to get a fan and the shops had run out or they dont want to spend any money on resolving this. They want the government or others to spend on their behalf. Just give it a rest.

Anyway the hot weather that was here for 48 hours. Its gone....

heldinadream · 20/07/2022 12:07

@Scorpio8 is English not your first language? You are complaining about people not understanding you but grammatically your posts are rather a mess. Which is entirely understandable if English is a second language for you.

Oblomov22 · 20/07/2022 12:17

What do you want us to do? Exactly?

Most of us already recycle, try to be aware, we don't want to buy food plastics from the supermarket but they force us to. We can make minor adjustments but they really are very minor and the really big thing is the greenhouse gases and no governments wish to address that.

The conference up in Scotland achieved absolutely nothing. All the countries attended. What was achieved? It's disgusting, scandalous.

Last night ok the news they asked the mayor About what changes were being done to London what was been done to the infrastructure getting air-conditioning units in how to adjust things so that we can cope with the heat. We need to stop building new houses but the legislation is too slow and they need to build new houses that stay cool etc not these cheap new builds that are being done at the moment. but the legislation will take ages to catch up and we don't seem to be able to fast forward that or address that as a major policy now! they asked the mayor about it on the news last night and he was really noncommittal about it.

What exactly can the little person do?

Scorpio8 · 20/07/2022 12:18

@stratforduponavon

Not about that either totally missing the point. If we are going to be having this sort of weather government will need to prepare for it so nothing stops we just get on with it.
Getting fan we can do all that ourselves.
Schools need to built ready if they say coming years this with regular thing now in years to come.

It's about common sense which a lot of people don't have them complain lol

I might not know my English but have more sense than a lot of you.

I was having a rant over a comment made to me yesterday.

How rude! That poster was trying to help...

TheMess · 20/07/2022 12:33

I can't work out whether you think the govt should have done more to anticipate 40 degree days, or that the govt did enough and it was the general population's stupidity to blame, or both, or none, or what.

I'm guessing there's a limited amount of money available for environmental protection projects, and it's been focused on flood defences in recent years, since we seem to get destructive flooding almost annually, and bad snow much less often and only ever for a couple of days at that.

Scorpio8 · 20/07/2022 12:37

I was having a rant because people in past two days thought the news exaggerated the heatwave.
Especially when I told them to be careful nothing wrong with that.
Government had issues because of what I said above they were going on about.
Like I said the lack of preparation. Because we don't have it this hot each year.

I was told don't listen to news. If people don't listen to the news it's down to them.
I went outside yesterday they didn't exaggerate about the weather I was roasting couldn't have been out in it all day. Most people went out in evening or when cooler.

OP posts:
GirlInACountrySong · 20/07/2022 12:46

So you knew about the weather yourself but STILL went out?

Scorpio8 · 20/07/2022 12:50

@TheMess

I can't work out whether you think the govt should have done more to anticipate 40 degree days, or that the govt did enough and it was the general population's stupidity to blame, or both, or none, or what.

Let me break it down people are stupid it's like Covid again. I can't listen to people whom go blind and ignore something so simple to understand. I don't feel they exaggerated the past two days not everywhere was 40 degrees but still high.

Like I said we are not like other countries. People want to say it's hot there why they complaining here.

Yes it takes money and time for government to prepare for 40 degree days especially if years to come. Although I know we have rubbish government at the moment. It's about climate change.
